Trey went on location with The Contortionist at Chain Reaction in Anaheim to see what gear they're using in their live set.

I was probably waiting outside that building when this was recorded
Definitely the best show I've seen so far!!!
Good times
It's kind of really refreshing to see a very modern-sounding metal band buck the digital modelling trend and use a lot of good old-school gear.
Aside from the keyboarder who has a weird software-only setup. As a keyboard player I'm kinda disappointed.:/
It also seems unnecessarily complicated, unintuitive and prone to failure.
Finally a band withouth an axe fx
+TheMisantropist What's so bad about Axe Fx? I agree it's nice to see some traditional rigs, but I love my Axe.
+UrsaMajor I guess it's just that for these Rig Rundowns its kinda boring to just see the typical, IEM, Axe Fx, 7 String Guitar, setup. It sure is lightweight, easy to handle, robust and reliable...It's just not fun to look at for the 300th time.
bremsnix
I definitely get that! I love seeing traditional rig rundowns myself. I enjoy the convenience and portability of my Axe Fx but miss my tube rig and big pedalboard at times.
The thing with the bands on Axe FX rigs would be a bit more interesting if they went through some of their banks. Like "yea I used a roland JC-120 mixed with a Fender Twin reverb and some delay for my clean sound. For some dirty rigs I used a diezel, a peavey, and a Mesa for most of the distorted patches". I know Javier from AAL went through a couple patches. Just my opinion though
Tosin Abasi doesn't use axefx anymore
This concert was badass. The sound was phenomenal. They blew the rest of the bands out the water
That's hard to believe when Sleepmakeswaves was there.

Not only are today’s The Contortionist unparalleled amongst their peers live, but it’s funny that you compared them to a band with no vocalist to begin with lol
It’s even more interesting when literally hundreds of hours exist on CZcams of TC jamming live; you might enjoy checking them out some time ✌️
I was there!
Probably the best show I've seen them so far!!!
Can't wait to see those guys again soon
Best live band ever!!
Yes, I've waiting so long to see this!
This is so sick!!!
Nice to see something other than goddamn AxeFx again
+TheLambIsGood Nice profile picture of an album recorded with the axefx and programmed drums ;)
this guy...
Nothing against axefx, but for these Rigged episodes, it definitely makes them more interesting when they're old school rigs like this. I think
TheLambIsGood
Totally agree, man. I love to see traditional setups myself. If they use Axe Fx, I'd actually like to know more about what's going on inside. What amp block, cab block, etc they use/prefer. Would make it a LITTLE more interesting. haha
TheLambIsGood Only a joke, i totally agree with you as well
@@hollowroots2197 exactly! i have nothing against axefx, its actually really useful, but when they just say “oh yeah i got an axefx” but don’t specify it annoys me lol 😂
thanks for introducing me to the cool band. can't believe I've never heard this band
Really informative video! I could tell you how much I liked it, but Cameron worded it himself so well @10:41
This was the video i needed
True Ibanez aficionados, the RG550 is one the finest production guitars ever built.
They sounded great at this show!
"we dont want you to see the setlist..." Its on stage right guitars pedalboard right on the volume pedal.
+Tres Thomas lol ikr, noticed that too hahahaha, btw love ur vids man
+Jacob Wagner Thank you man! :)
Not the set list. It's a tone list
these guys are ripped as fuck
How stoned is Robby in this video
As stoned as he always is
very
On a scale of 1 to Baca, he's Baca
Best Contortionist show I've ever experienced!
Life was pretty sweet back then...
Haha...now look at us...ready for concerts to come back.
My hearts pumping more than before \m/ huge fan
Cam likes him some 'Texas blues tones" !!! Can't wait to hear some of that on the next TC release! ;-)
im kinda surprised knowing they play kinda prog/djent stuff i thought they would use something like an axe-fx2 or somthing but they use a mesa dual rec damn, much respect fellas
glad you brought that up "Rediscovered stuff"
"No picks" *rolls eyes lmao
They were sick when they were in Phoenix
Woah. Bassist uses Iron Ether. Very impressive
Why impressive?
Sorry for the stupid question, I don’t know anything about bass
This video was the first time I ever heard of that brand of pedal, those definitely look awesome
Robby kind of sounds like Ricky from Trailer Park Boys
21:46 "DeeUhDaree-O's"
I've been in love with there tone since exoplanet. I tried his settings on my 2 channel duel rec and ts9 and made my ears bleed it was so bright. My ts9 isn't the baked mod but that shouldn't play to big a role considering how he's using it.
Their rig makes me happy
Anyone know what string gauges? Wanna try a 7 string but all the ones at gc have shit floppy stock strings.
I'm so pissed i missed this show
Time for a kemper guys.
Robby always looks super high😂 no problem with that. I’m sure that’s where his genius stems from.
I might not have noticed it but what (if they are) wireless system are they using?
could it have broken up at a worse time?! what keeley mod was on the first TS?
Baked Mod
ERRA shirt!!!
Didn't know Cameron talked.
Cameron only talks when he’s casting spells against lord Voldemort
I missed that show and i'm pissed about it.
i knew anthony green played guitar, but i didn't think he was such a pro
How do you synch the guitars with the drums on Language, at the beginning of Intuition in the first few minutes--with the delay / repeat? I mean, how does the drummer stay in synch, besides being f'ing awesome. Headset? Click? Sorry if this is a novice question.
Naiya Cominos They the tempo on their delays to match the tempo of the drums :) And I believe the drummer plays to a click.
It's actually mentioned in the Keys rundown that he sends a click to the drummer from Ableton.
Fuck. Did I miss them with Entheos and Monuments o.O how could this have happened?
YEAH
Man what are those stacks?
Whats the finish on Joeys kit?
has awesome setup, runs it through a rusty lunchbox that is the cab clone
I know this comment is ancient but for real, I hadn't seen this yet and that about made me fall over. I have never heard anyone ever get a passible tone out of that thing so I'm baffled these guys would go anywhere near that thing.
SHOUTOUT TO CHAIN REACTION
"Guthrie Govan"!! \m/
I'm pretty sure all of those guitars were 26.5 scale length right?
Nope only the RGD, The others are 25.5
7 string RGs tend to be 25.5 with a few exceptions (like the XLs). RGDs are the only guitars seen here with 26.5 scale
chung chung
It's nice that there's still bands out there who don't use the Axe FX and Kemper crap
Will York Music not sure what makes it crap 🤔
Hey look, another financial elitist gatekeeping live music.
3:00
*Sheeesh before it was a trend*
Please Fallujah Gear!
He didn’t discuss string gauges :’(
They us gauge .001-.001
SEYMOUR DUNCAN WHATS??? WHAT MODEL. AAAAAAAAAA
Just talked to Robby recently and he has switched to Mojotone. Hes using the "Black Magic" set. Cam uses a Seymour Duncan 59 in the neck and JB in the bridge.
cannot handle how much he says "uh.." or "uhm.."
Nice to see a band that doesn't use Axe fx
No picks hahaha
Nope, everything finger picked
+Brendon stacey 21:50 haha
I'm not geeking
Cameron looks like Louis Theroux
These guys have about as much personality as a jar of peanut butter.
Ian Braun met the band after a show in '16. Genuine humble humans. Musically focus and not pretentious.
I think they are just real high.
skippy peanut butter is pretty charismatic.
they probably have experienced ego death through "methods"
I don’t need my musicians to act like care salesmen. They just seem genuine. That to me is a good personality.
Not only do you have to get good at actually playing the guitar...you have to make sense of all this nonsense. God damn.
Wish the vocals didn’t suck
Good thing they don’t, “xlennyplaguex”.
