    Just have to say I spent 35 years of my life growing up in and owning a transmission shop. I take pride in my work. I'm in the process of rebuilding a 5.3 and 4L60E trans for a friend and I'm putting in in a 1970 Impala. I have been watching a TON of CZcams videos and I must say yours are by far the best I have watched. And I appreciate what you have done. Great job.

      I have to mirror what Mr. Knight said, you are indeed a great soul for this work! I'm about to embark on an LS swap into my 57 Chev 1/2 ton. You must have been in the military to have this detailed training and setting up a manual for someone to follow that is easy to use. Thanks you Sir!

    I know it's been a while since we messaged. I finally got a Ls3 block. Cheap. Now that I have a block and know which way I am goin for my swap, I can begin with the wiring. I have watched these set of videos 3 or 4 times to hopefully have a better idea on how I am going to do it. Now I can go to the junkyard and pull a Gen 4 harness with the Ecu and Tcu and tack module and pedal. This is going to be so much fun.

      Label every wire, you can write it in any code as long as you understand it.. Use numbers/take pictures etc.. These motors have a super wear resistant steel in the cylinders, so dont be surprised if you dont even have to bore the cylinders out for bigger pistons.

    • @samsgarage2856
      @samsgarage2856 Před 7 lety

      Plan is to get a complete drop out LS1 & T56 including wiring, PCM, accessories, etc. from a Camaro or Transam 99 to 2002. I will need the Camaro intake, oil pan, and accessories for my application anyway. Ideally I would like to get a wrecked 4th gen Fbody and take what I need but don't think the neighborhood association would like that very much. lol Hawks motorsports is somewhat close to me and they always have dropouts in the $5K range with around 100K to 150K miles.

    • @UCanDoIt2Mike
      @UCanDoIt2Mike  Před 7 lety

      Yea... Not a fan of the shaved intakes. When I first saw it, I was glued to the "process" and thought this is going to be really cool! Well.... the end result just didn't do it for me! I love all the covers. So I am going to use a little of their technique to erase the "Vortec" and then find a way to add "Rowdy". That and a few thin red painted stripes in the shallow groves and we'll be beotchin' !!! Thank you brother!

    If you never done anything like this before, it may be a good idea to not cut anything. until you have went through the whole harness, de loom, and separate out the un-needed wires, bunch them up , and de-pin, and/or cut last thing, you may need the wire and pin for something else, or to replace a damaged pin. It would be better than soldering to the harness!

I don’t have a printer, but if I had the design, I should be able to find someone to print it. I have been thinking of creating a form and doing some type of fiberglass solution. Thanks for the idea! Mike i'm confident you know what you're doing. All i do is solder the wires add liquid tape then shrinkwrap with the type that has a sealer inside the tube to prevent moisture from getting in. I've seen youtubers put silicone on the wires and then shrinkwrap , nope not a good idea. LOL The dollar store shrink wrap works great in the desert i guess but in areas of high moisture the wires turn black and green soon. @ 8:52, those two connectors you are going to remove, that last one when I trace back the pink wire, it’s going to spot C4 which is the MAF. In the video, you have it labeled to be removed. Do you need to keep that plug? It’s a five wire plug with a purple insert in it.

    • @UCanDoIt2Mike
      @UCanDoIt2Mike  Před 5 lety +1

      At that part of the video, that leg has the Front and Rear O2 Sensor Connectors for one of the sides of the exhaust. The one that i pickup and is labeled Green is the Front O2 Sensor which you need to keep. The connector to the left of that connector is the Rear O2 and it can be removed. All 4 O2 connectors have purple wires in them.

    • @zxBiiOHaZaRDxz
      @zxBiiOHaZaRDxz Před 5 lety +1

      UCanDoIt2 I wish I could upload a picture to show you. That’s not what I was referring to, I know what the O2s are and I kept both front ones like you did. But at that point of the video there is two plugs, above the aforementioned arm that both connectors you labeled, not connected. At this point in time I was curious why you had the last connector (the MAF) labeled to be removed. BUT I set that arm aside and moved on and when I got to your next video in the series when you’re starting to remove wires, you mentioned that you had this labeled as not connected but you discovered it was actually your MAF, so you kept it. I posted that comment at first thought, without waiting to go through with the next video. So I got it all sorted and thanks to you, I have my harness complete! I finished it last night and it took about seven hours, over three nights to do it! So thank you for such great content. I never thought I’d be doing this kind of work myself for my vehicle. It’s intimidating but you made it easy. So thank you again! And thank you for the quick reply.

      I didn't! And here is the reason.... Due to filming, this took a lot longer than it should have. With that, I had plenty of time to continually think and adjust what really needed to take place. I ended up just using it as a reference, but following it step by step. Therefore, it doesn't completely match the video series. I had two choices... edit the document OR put it on mothballs... Guess which was easier. Do you think it would be very useful? • @UCanDoIt2Mike
      @UCanDoIt2Mike  Před 7 lety +1

      Here is my understanding... When the ole "Distributor" was removed from the engines and they introduced the PCM (ECU), the computer began to control the firing order and timing of the spark. The only way the computer knows when to fire the spark for each cylinder is "primarily" based on the Crankshaft Position Sensor and Reluctor wheel. That tells the PCM the exact position of each Piston (when they are at the proper location to fire the spark). This determines the "Base" Spark timing. As an adjustment to that, the PCM has several adjustment tables that it can apply minor adjustments to the spark timing based on input from sensors like: Temperature Sensor, Knock Sensors, O2, MAP, and others. These sensors are reporting to the PCM various conditions that the PCM then can make monir adjustments.As for the Injectors - They only have 2 wires going to each. 1 is a Pink wire which is 12V+ when the Key is ON. They must be Negatively Switched via the other wire. When the PCM wants a particular Injector to fire, it provide a closed circuit Ground (-) on that second wire.Good Stuff! I believe that is all correct. It is the only way that it makes sense to me. Thanks for watching!

      The PCM is currently programmed for VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System). If you are swapping your engine into another GM based vehicle that also has the VATS components installed, there would potentially be no reprogramming required. If you are swapping your engine into an older vehicle, the VATS programming will need to be disabled in the PCM. If you do not disable it, the engine will start and run for about 3-5 sec and then shut off. If you are planning to install a MIL Indicator (Check Engine Light) you may want to also disable any other features that your new vehicle does not offer so that the PCM does not alert false alarms.

      Currently ive pulled my harnness out. I bought this 98 stepside for 1k. But the harness was cut in many places, unusable. Looked around for a new harness but can only get those generic harnesses as well.

      I did some research a couple of months ago during some down time. The two big companies (American Wire and Painless) both offer a Custom solution for my Jeep for about $900!!!!! But I can get a 22 Circuit Generic Harness and put the ends on myself for ~ $400. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Generic it is. I can crimp ends like the best of them. Mike

      Spoke with painless, only able to get a 22 circut generic from any of them. I agree, save money...no brainer

      Just saw some information on Kwik Wire. They have several kits with different circuit configurations. They even have a Water Proof one that has my attention .

      I believe so! It took a while to get all setup, but now I'm ready to make the first surgical snip! Should be able to make good progress now! Thank you Drew!

      Maybe I can stay just ahead of you! More than happy to bounce ideas off each other. If you see me screwing up... YELL at me! I believe I have my ducks in a row, but you can never be totally sure! Thanks.

      UCanDoIt2 oh I'm sure you will be done before I'll really attack it, I'm test fitting the 5.3/th400 in the truck and getting all that done first and taking things off the truck that I don't want or need and I need to clean the engine bay, once the motor/trans are in and bolted down I'll start the harness
