  • Once you stretch out and wear out your leggings, they are pretty much of no use and usually end up in landfills. Most leggings are made up of Lycra material which is synthetic in nature and does not decompose, resulting in environmental pollution. But if we invest little bit of time and creativity we can avoid a lot of fabrics going to dump yard by reusing them. One such project is 'making yarn out of leggings'.
    You can make a continuous yarn or rope out of leggings which can be used creatively in your DIY projects later on. All you need is a pair of old leggings and scissors.
    Using these yarn you can make many projects such as door mats, hanging planters, head bands, dream catchers, etc.
    So, why not get artsy and upcycle them?

      A good way to recycle and reduce wastage of cloth isn't it? Simple things like these will help reduce things being dumped in landfills. #forabetterplanet

    Can this be used instead of T-shirt yarn

    • @makeityourself8404
      @makeityourself8404  Před 3 lety

      Yes you can use. However, the joints will not be very seamless as in t shirt yarn. So depending on the project, you can choose.
      By joints I mean the stitches in seams of pant. Depends on quality of leggings.

    Awe man I thought maybe someone figured out how to use the whole. I figured out the bottom part, although ended up using less due to crotch and thigh holes. Is there a way to use the top part to?
    Edit figured it out I experimented around. I figured out how to use a hole pair with minimal waste.

      You can cut out petals and make flowers. If you don't want to be creative, a simple solution - lycra i.e. the material of leggings is soft and works as an excellent duster for electronic gadgets or anything delicate 😄

      I'm always enjoying wearing boy cut underwear under summer skirts to help give some privacy. So now I have short-shorts and t-shirt yarn, win - win!

      I actually made some undies/short shorts like that 2. Also made my Chiweenie a few snug lil no sew sleeveless shirts(w/the legs leftover from making the under- shorts)2 provide extra warmth,like that I put on him under his sweaters & winter coats when it's extra cold out...

      In case any1 might wonder how I made the doggy undershirts- I just used the widest part of the leggings upper leg/thigh hole area(& I held it up to him 2 get an idea of measurements),then cut + signs 1st on both sides a dew inches down from the head hole end(again,held it stretched out & up against him,then eyeballed,& marked the spots)kinda to the side & underneath part. Later decided 2 make em more like rounded holes that weren't too tight,nor gaping where I could pull his arms through.And lastly I cut out a U shape on the underside (but left the top part for his back kinda long),hoping 2 prevent pee pee from getting on that area. This was a couple yrs.ago,& b4 I learned how to crochet,or had a reason 2 make yarn tho,lol!

      It's an economical and eco-friendly way to recycle and reuse instead of discarding the used leggings to dump. Application and usage depends on how smartly we can use it 🙂👍🏻
