  • Get the entire film at www.amazon.com/dp/B0001LQL5G. I spent a year searching for this wonderful old footage and finding folks who were there to experience these events, now long gone. My resulting one-hour documentary tells the story of Bascom Lamar Lunsford but goes beyond him to give a sense of these great musicians and dancers and how they struggled against prejudice. He reminds me of A.P. Carter (who also sold fruit trees) - collecting songs, writing songs and preserving his culture and music. Pure legend.

I am decendent of the Lunsford family from Del Rio Tn. All my Uncles played Bluegrass ,Gospel and country music but not professionally. I guess I must somehow be kin to Bascom Lamar since it's only 38 miles from Del Rio Tn to Mars Hill Tn.

thank you Evan. There are many answers to your question. I've been a filmmaker for 57 years. I had to make a living during all that time and never took more than a two-week vacation every couple of years. I managed to keep a portion of what I had films (unfortunately a good part of it was destroyed in a fire that destroyed much of my archived in 2008-I made a documentary on that) and I guess I am and always have been fascinated by ordinary people's extraordinary stories.

+Darren Li Yes I did. Way back in 1964 as my 1st professional documentary. What a moment it was. I'm glad it can still be enjoyed by so many via CZcams.

David Hoffman You're fortunate to have been able to see and meet so many legends and figures in American music. I'm only in my 20s, so your videos make me feel a connection to days long gone, especially since you were actually around for some of them. Thank you, and your videos are fantastic
