God adopts us as sons of God because, who ever will believe the reason why Jesus has to suffer on the cross they will be acceptable to God. When you pray our Father, you say "our Father" not "Our God". Thats because God loves to hear you call him as Papa than God. We are sons of God because God wants to be a father to us. Our life is a fight of how can we remain in God. Fight of how can we remain in Jesus. If we manage to remain in God till the end after all the sufferings that we have, thats what you call a victory.
