There's no sadder sight than the naval reclamation yard at Bremerton, in books, where really famous ships are just sitting there waiting for the scrappers, often at Brownsville, TX. The ex-Kitty Hawk would have, you'd have thought, made a great museum ship like the Midway museum but I suppose you can't save them all.
