If you had to pick 10 songs to define 1980's pop music, I think this song is one of them.
Devinitley!
Couldn't agree with you more!
For sure
No doubt!
Best song of 1985 if not the best song of the decade.
The lead singer is in his 60’s can still hit the high notes
And he looks like he is not older than 45 or 50 years old!
It's just not fair! 😫
Morton Harkett
@@Oxygene1841 Morten Harket
The song is great, but this is without question the greatest music video ever made. So far ahead of its time technologically, and as a story telling video, it has no peer. Your reaction of being pulled so much into the story is perfect!
I dunno, Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer, MJ’s Thriller, and Herbie Hancock’s Rockit were pretty damn good, too. But yes, this was a masterpiece.
@@andirandolph8830 Thriller to me is so much more than a music video. It's in a category all it's own without peer. Sledgehammer? Not really my thing, I think mainly because I like his older music much better than what he put out during this time but yes, the video is quite ahead of its time. I like Rockit too, but it doesn't have the moving "story" in it that this video does IMHO.
This song is timeless. It was great 20-30 years ago and it will be great in 20-30 years from now. Had me singing softly in the grocery store.
The song is more than 40 years old, but this version is 38 years. a-ha is Norwegian, but the production is by Warner. The synth riff was made back in 1977, so they were working many years on the song.
It's crazy to think this song is over 30 years old. It's even crazier to think that I was a teenager when it came out. You know what that makes me? Yeah, you know.
It makes you 16 with 35 years of experience, like me.
funny that when i was growing up i didn`t like this song at all, or Music much, but when you get older and maybe it`s because of autotune and basically back then music was not just a scientifuic audio algorhythm(!) , music was fun!
@@tjsogmc me too! Listening to this is giving me so many flashbacks it’s practically PTSD. Where’d the time go???
A Boomer? Lol jk. My nieces call me that and im only 29 lol
@@angelone1839 I know, my daughters called me that also. I'm trying to explain to them that that was my parent's generation but they don't care. LOL
My wife says this is our song because of us riding around the country on a motorcycle early in our relationship.
If it's A-Ha and motorbikes you want then here you go!

Wonderful 80's. Music was music. So many memories. 🥺😢🇪🇸
Group from Norway! Not much from Norway grabs yr attention too often but A-Ha definitely did back in 85. Song was everywhere. Great Pop Song.
Wardruna!
@@andrebrodbeck3883 ?
@@patkelly8309 Just another band from Norway!
And of course the one man band Leo Moracchioli!
@@patkelly8309 Alan Walker and Kygo are doing great atm, but yep, not too many others
One of the best videos ever on MTV. Was a ground breaking combination of animation and live video. Was made before Roger Rabbit.
Man, not liking a song the first time you hear it is a very natural reaction towards the unknown. Then you get over it and the (musical) world is yours. Cheers guys!
I agree. You'd have to be open minded and willing to be somewhat vulnerable.
You have to listen to Part 2 by them, The Sun always Shines on Tv.
Part 2 or not it a brilliant and beautiful song by A-ha
Getting flash backs, The Human league Don’t You Want Me Baby is getting searched
oh yeeeah!!
defo Sheffield rocks you must react to this
3 Norwegian musicians, 3 teenagers went to London to "make it". They almost gave up, due to endless "no's", taking "forever", strugling to survive, starving and difficulty findings ends meet.
They didn't give up on their dream, and they hit the Jackpot.
TAKE ON ME has become a CLASSIC, and sure does this EPIC ANIMATION vid help out as well!
You guys should react to the live unplugged version, it’s just as amazing!
I second that. I thought this was just another bubble gum pop tune. Just resently I saw somebody react to that live version and I was really moved👍.
Didn't know it was in one of the Deadpool movies for a long time.
I third that. It's a tear jerker
Yeah, the MTV Unplugged live version is superb.
Amazing how great his voice still sounds too.
Chris Griffin getting yanked behind the milk section to this song on family guy is epic ! thanks for reacting! always fun and wow this video for Aha has 1.2 billion views ? wow !
The video/story is what helps make this song so damn ICONIC....I love it man
Alot of the stuff you guys are liking are from the 80's, the music was phenomenal, you have good taste!!!✌️🇺🇸
And they're English speaking!!
@@OblivionGate A-HA is from Norway they just speak & sing in English!
@@OblivionGate eh no, they are Norwegian. Morten harket, pal waaktaar savoy, magne furholmen
Please do A-ha - The sun always shines on TV
"Hunting High and Low"
Another great song by a-ha. My personal favorite!
And a very cool video as well!
Won also many awards!!!
The 80's were a blast!! Another song that takes you back 👍😊
Saw them in concert back in 2019...they are still absolutely amazing
This is seriously the MOST (repeat MOST) ICONIC song of the 80's. Theme song to "The Breakfast Club" which is the first movie of it's kind (A "Coming of Age" movie) and the MOST ICONIC movie of the decade. It set the style, tone, and attitude for Gen X growing up. I was a teen during this era. It captures so much. It is one you MUST know and not forget! Over a Billion views Guys! Major song here!
This song is the epitome of MTV 80s music
Imagine how we felt about it when we first saw it in the 80's. It was orders of magnitude better than anything that came before it, and almost 40 years later it still holds up.
Props to the lovely Bunty Bailey! She conveyed so much without saying a word.
"The Sun Always Shines on TV" was their second biggest song after "Take on Me" but my favorite by them is "I've Been Loosing You".
Norwegian band A-Ha had several hits in the UK " the sun shines on tv " , James Bond theme " the living daylights " , " hunting high and low " , " cry wolf " , " stay on these roads " , " train of thoughts " , " i've been losing you " , " crying in the rain " and my favourite is " manhatten skyline " . These days you can find lead singer Morten Harket as a coach on the voice norway .
For many many years this video was considered the best music video ever made. I still think it’s in the top 5.
Morton Harket the lead singer was on The Masked Singer UK recently and sang a slowed down version of this. He has such a beautiful voice live.
Yes he was great on the show but his voice ...well i knew immediately
When a Man Loves a Woman...
Percy Sledge
Wake up Everybody...
Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes
If anyone is curious. That high note is a E5, which is still the highest recorded note in pop history sung by a male singer
If I remember correctly, this video won lots of awards.
Yes it swept @ the MTV Video Music Awards.
Probably the best music video ever made.
@@f1hotrod527 still amazes me with how they integrated drawings etc with live video, especially given it was the 80's!
Thank you for being open to changing your mind! Seriously --- that is POWER!
I remember this song playing on the radio when I was taking long lap photo of Haileys comet on it's close Earth pass.
Halley's Comet. You've got 40 years to remember the spelling before it returns.
lol i remember the day this 1st premiered on radio here in Chicago i remember like it was yesterday i was a teenager in 1985 and the DJ said "here is a new song by a band called AH-HA Take On Me" and it was a big hit from then on
You guys should try Sledge Hammer by Peter Gabriel since I've been seeing more 80's songs here.
Great reaction, thankyou for choosing A-ha.. Morten Harket is my favourite singer, he has the most beautiful voice!
One of the best 80;s song of all time.
This is still one of the best videos ever made.
This is always 85 to me. I was 14 and in love with a girl in the year above. Whenever I hear this, I smell Kouros, chanel, leather jackets, and I see Alison in her school uniform.
Thats the name of the aftershave we all wore, been racking my brain for ever, need to buy more, good days back then though, cheers.
One of the all time best pairings of a song and video!💕
Morten Harket was Viking on the most recent series of the UK version of The Masked Singer. He sang the unplugged version of Take On Me in episode 5 just to troll everyone. Genius! None of the panel guessed him, even though it was blatantly obvious it was him from the very first week he sang.
Great 80s tune, brings me back.
Great music.."Stay on this roads".."The sun always shines on TV".."Hunting High and low"
Yep.. Great Song!
That was fun to watch, thank you!
Love the 80’s. I was an 80’s kid
Masterpiece song and video. All hand drawn!!!!!!!!!!!
What is often forgot is not only is the song unique and great but the video is awesome. In today’s technology that is not too difficult but 80’s technology? Absolutely brilliant. This song and video will live on for a long time.
I was 11 when this came out. my sisters and I had A-ha posters all over our room with the Giant poster of Morten. Anyone from back in the day.. ya'll remember that poster.
One of the biggest music videos on M.T.V. 1985 it was fun to dance to also!! They were Awesome days!!
Take on Me is the first in a trilogy of A-Ha songs;
Take On Me
The Sun Always Shines On TV
Train Of Thought
Each video leads into the other.
Brazil loves A ha!
Congratulations for posting!
a hug
Also check out A-ha's "The Sun Always Shines On TV" and "Stay On These Roads"
Best song by A-ha is "I've been loosing you." Other good songs are " Move to Memphis", "Manhattan Skyline", "Hunting high and low", "The sun always shines on tv" and "The living daylights" (theme song for the James Bond movie of the same name).
I can't focus on the video watching you girl, I love how you shake it, great classic by the way
Its so refreshing to see u change ur mind!
Eric Prydz, 'Call on me' gives me similar vibes (the official vid was a killer for young lads of the time... 😉)... Great stuff guys!
dude! spot on!!...I am grew up in the 80s and this song did NOT do well at 1st but it grew on every one and the video won some awards.and it made us appreciate the artistic talent...you nail it man..it grew on us back then...and it did on you..love it...
Same here. Im 28 and found this song. Amazing! Allot of 80s is awesome.
When I first heard this song.. I LOVED IT 🤗🤗🤗🔥🔥
You guys are great thanks
Un verdadero clásico de los 80!!!!!!!!😁😁🎉🎉🎉
This song came out in high school and I loved it ever since. In fact it’s still one of my workout songs
Great song ! That simple.
This is one of the best songs to see performed at karaoke. Usually someone who is at least 5 drinks in and finally willing to try those octaves. Sometimes a spectacular success, usually a spectacular failure, but always spectacular.
Thx! Yeah one of the attributes of a good piece of music from classical to now is it’s ability to make a line familiar! Familiarity is so important because it gives the listener the chance to anticipate what’s coming! -Terry, Canoga Park
One of my all time favorite song
Took the sketch artist months to hand-draw and assemble the animated frames used in what stands as the most original & creative video of the 1980s. This music video went viral in its day. #Worldwide
Songs like this , was the VIBE of the 1980s 👍🏽👍🏾👍🏿
That was a fun reaction :) great song.
Aww, I like how she watches you groove.
Yeah, I was 13 when this came out - 49 now gulp! - and you need to try to understand there was nothing like this video in the charts or anywhere in games consoles etc (well not that was available to everyday people in the shops); it was groundbreaking. It also had a great storyboard - a girl loves a guy in a comic then gets trapped; both have to run away from baddies and she has to escape. In the end when it looks bleak then he escapes! So we had a great tune and an amazing, unique video. I think a lot of people are nostalgic for the video as well as the song :). Great reaction, thanks.
It’s all about the video. That’s what drew me to the song when it first came out on MTV.
Hello from England. K I'm so pleased you didn't try for the high notes on the chorus. Trust me it hurts in all the wrong places. Lol.
One of the GOAT one hit wonders!
that’s such in correct story, they are not one hit wonders, not even in America were that false opinion is believed.
The sun always shines on tv is a great song by A-Ha it’s part 2 to take on me.
Number one MTV video of all time!
This video was state of the art in its day
Check out their acoustic version, from a few years ago.
He saying about the song growing up on here her in that shirt made me grow up to LOL
One of my favorite songs and videos growing up. Now, when I hear Blinding Lights by The Weeknd, I can't help but think that "Take On Me" might've been the inspiration for it.
I remember the first time I saw this on MTV
no ads to worry about!!
You'll love The Sun Always Shines On TV!
The #1 Animated Video On MTV Of All Time....They Awarded Them This Back In The 90's I Think, Even Though This Was 1984
I highly recommend looking up the same song on MTV acoustic. It will take you on a whole other journey.
If you really like this, try some of their modern stuff. "Butterfly, Butterfly", "Foot of the Mountain" etc. They are fantastic. Also the acoustic version of this is also available, and magnificent.
Seen them live 5 times now, and they are brilliant!! Music of my youth!
I am so happy I was in my teens when this first come out! I missed nothing!
This was literally the first music video that I watched when I was a kid!
this is one of the best pop songs.
You should listen to....stone roses...FOOLS GOLD...LIVE AT HEATON PARK 👍
You need to watch the lead singer he was on the uk masked singer and he sang his own song (the slowed down version) was amazing and noone guessed him
The girl in the story ad the lead singer ...yep they had a fling, they hooked up :)
my 9 yr old nephew cant stop moving to the song since age 6!play it loud while he plays cs go! he moves on the chair, dancing if we play it lout from the living room!
Part 1 of 3....now review "The Sun Always Shines on TV" next 😘
One of my favourite tunes as a teenager in the 80s
Listin to the punk rock version by mxpx
Pitbull made "Feel This Moment" sampling the music with Christina Aguilara and performed it on a music award show in 2013.
There's so much about this video that's amazing including the reactors producers reactors cinematographers everyone involved in electronics an artistry
