      I suppose the quick way would have been to find a core which is exactly the same size and wind off of one onto the other. You can get the winding machine to count it for you and you won't get a rats nest of wire!!

    Hi Marko,
    I finally... took enough time to carefully watch your video. I have watched it before but sometimes I have to slow down a lot to get the details. I do want to ask that about 6:18 in your video where you show the schematic of how you measure inductance under a DC bias, you show the DCR of the choke in your schematic - this is the same circuit I use - but do you take into consideration the value of DCR in your calculation spreadsheet, i.e. do you measure DCR before the test to use it in the calculation of inductance or is that not necessary? I have not taken into account any value of DCR of the chokes in my spreadsheet and maybe my measurements are less accurate (?). Thank you for your videos and please stay safe.

    • @Delatsch
      @Delatsch  Před 3 lety

      Hi David, the DCR is not used in this formula and I think it is negligible for this type of measurement. Thank you, looking forward to your new videos!

    Couldn't you put the bobbin onto your winder, then pull the old wire from the choke? The winder will count the turns as you pull off. That would save manually counting the turns on the original choke.

    • @Delatsch
      @Delatsch  Před 4 lety

      Yes, I was thinking about it, and I even have two winders and same empty bobbin, but once I started it was already too late. Next time I will do it that way for sure! For modern chokes and transformers that should work, but for older transformers the potting is too strong and the thinner wire snaps easily.

  • @josepeixoto3715

    what's the air core gap for? what happens if you just stick the EEs and IIs together? i have one transformer here of that same size, i removed all wires and then i put 3 turns of heavy 6 mm2 wire on it, i need 0.50 micro Henry at 100 Amps , 24 volts; but the EEs and the IIs are welded together just like in a microwave oven trafo, will that work?
    edit : later, by trial and error i got it: microwave trafo,sawed off the IIs(the "cap"), then all wires removed, then 11 turns of 6 mm2 wire; bingo!! the power draw at IDLE went down from 3.6 Amps!! (no coil, just a straight 6 mm2 wire) to .6 Amps ( this at 48 volts, on a 14 Kg steel toroid trafo, 2000 Watts+).
    note: the gtrafo must stay OPEN, the "cap" not on, just the EEs, no IIs. with the cap on it buzzes and the Amps jump to .8 Amps.

  • @ac8wpamateurradiovideos567

    I usually estimate the permeability since I re use cores, larger ones are usually around 1.6tesla, and smaller ones are usually around 1 tesla.
    It also depends on the original purpose of the core as well, such as if it was for continuous use or not.

    • @Delatsch
      @Delatsch  Před rokem

      @@kolarkaraudioresearch That is fine for inductors that don't don't have DC current flowing in them. If there is DC current present, you need to pass the rated DC current through the inductor and then measure the inductance at that level of dc saturation of the core. In that case it does not work with LCR meter.
