If world leaders had the same amount of passion when it comes to science, as Mark has when talking about the food, we would have flying sorceress by now.
🤣
Philly boy born and raised. You did a good job with this food video. You saved the best for last, Philly beer culture!
There are more craft breweries and brew houses in town. Yards is the largest in the city. Good food and great beer.
If you want to eat it, you can find it here in Philly; Chinese in Chinatown, German at Brauhaus Schmidt’s, Italian everywhere. If you want a Michelin 5 star restaurant or a Brazilian steakhouse, we have it.
The homage to our beloved Wawa is appreciated.
Two big Philly Phanatic thumbs up for this video.
Next time you’re in town, we can get a chicken cutlet Italian at Tony’s, it will knock your socks off!
I am a Philly native and you covered it really well!! I do love the street vendor pretzels and not not from a bakery. And Corrpolese tomato pie. Best ever.
Thank you!
HEY! It’s called “Wooder ice.” 😂
South Philadelphia has the best authentic Mexican food! So if you're in Philly and in the mood for true tasting Mexican food, try Tamalex, Blue Corn, Taqueria La Prima, and many others :)
The Reading Terminal Market is great. I recommend the 9th Street Italian Market. Ralph's Italian Restaurant is the oldest family run Italian restaurant in the United States. Isagro's has the best Italian pastries. When we go to the Market, we eat at Anthony's Italian Coffeehouse. They have panninis for lunch, coffee, teas, and pastries.
Ralph's is the best. Highly recommend not too expensive
But in Philadelphia, we don’t call it Reading Market. We say Reading Terminal. And the Italian Market, if you’re a local, is just called 9th Street. I used to live in Philadelphia and the locals do shop there for food.
I can't eat red meat, and poultry, because there is heart disease, and diabetes in my family.
I’m from Philly. If you are vegan go to Atiya Ola’s Spirit Foods on 48th Street, Jamaican D’s on Chelten Avenue, All the Way Live on Germantown Avenue.
Check out the sushi in Reading Terminal. Just check out Reading Terminal in general, they have everything there!
Mushroom cheesesteak with provolone. Perfection.
I'm local, and I have to say this is some solid info! There are also a ton of great Mexican restaurants in the Italian market Wawa is everywhere, but the food is not the best I’d only eat that stuff as a last resort; there are so many better options around the city.
any good recommendations for Mexican? Especially for someone with a 6yo?
@@nygreenguy Most of the places are pretty *authentic* so I guess it depends on how adventurous of an eater your kid is (also, I’m prob the worst person on the planet to know what kids like, if I’m being completely honest), but there are tons of places in that stretch, so there’s lots of options.
Love the food in Philadelphia. Your suggestions are great. One place I really like is the Famous 4th St Deli. Pastrami sandwich is spectacular! I always stay within walking distance. They have something for everyone. Cheers!
When you guys do the “Don’ts of Philly” video, please add guidance around how NOT to order your cheesesteak here (I.e. say your order in 10 seconds or less). The locals behind you in line will appreciate it. Awesome as always!
Sandwich friendly towns are my favorite
I'm from Philly. I agree about reading terminal market and especially soft pretzels (PHILA Pretzel Factory my favorite). Don't generally like cheesesteaks but love Cleavers! Lots of great food everywhere. Beilers donuts too. Cannot be beat! Enjoy.
As a Pennsylvania native both the hoagies and the pretzels are the best in the country. Flat out. No debate
Love this - all good and valid! The BYOB/Bring Your Own Bottle applies to beer and wine and liquor. It's a pain for restaurants, because they would love to sell alcohol, but it's nice for diners, whose bills aren't inflated by marked-up beer and wine prices (you can get a decent wine for $10, but by the glass it's probably $12-$15)
Pork roll/Taylor ham!! I know it’s Jersey based technically but I always think of pork roll when I think of Philly because my uncle used to make it for us for breakfast every day when we’d visit 🥰
Dellasandro's is the best for sandwiches in the Philly area
Not from philly but pa and I love the crab fries from chickies and pete’s just amazing with the cheese sauce
Love the roast pork sandwich. You can't beat it. We have some relatives that live just outside Philly. It's a foodie destination. It's not just cheesesteak. A delicious video Mark😜😜 Jim and Harriet
Thanks for sharing this, I love the soft pretzel too.😋😋
Super helpful. Thank you!
Glad to help out
Wow, I learned something today! Thanks Mark!
glad i can help a bit Markito :)
We live in Maryland and love going to Philly for food! The market is amazing. We love stopping by Suraya which is the fish town and their food is amazing! Can’t wait to go back!
BYOB is bring your own beverage, you can bring your own wine too 😉 you’re meant to tip extra if you do (as if you had paid for the beverage there…) bc the server is opening it for you/providing the glass or chilled mug and cleaning up after. Another fun twist, some Mexican places give free margaritas bc they are BYOB and don’t have a license to sell you alcohol, but they can gift it to you. If you do get a water ice there’s often another tasty option called a gelati, which is gelato with water ice. Lastly, you may hear people ordering ice water as a beverage in restaurants, and it means tap water with ice. Be VERY aware of your surroundings if you take Septa, especially at night. (Local here 😉)
Didn't mention pizza, Philly has excellent pizza, some of the best in the country or world.
Philly Cheesesteak, Roast Pork and the Soft Pretzel, all in that order. All look extremely delicious!
they are all delicious :)
Corpolese is the absolute best tomato pie you can find. I don’t think there’s one in Philly but it’s about a half hour away.
Ah, no way. My tomato pie is the best! 😉😆
Going in July!!
Just came across this after watching your Dublin videos. Great video of what to eat. I used to work a block from the Reading Terminal to eat. Lunchtime was great. The liquor license cost so much if you are staring a new business. They are limited and they can cost upwards of 250,000. Since I as a kid numerous years ago there was only two to three "4 star restaurants." Now there are so many. With that video I think you could tailgate at any Eagles game and be accepted by the locals. That is the best compliment I can give...lol.
The top 2 for me eating wise in Philadelphia is Suraya in Fishtown (their cauliflower sandwich with sumac seasoned fries along with their Lebanese chai latte was BOMB!) and Kismet Bialy at Reading Terminal Market. Pizzeria Beddia was also excellent.
The Best hoagies are from the Ro-Lynn Deli in Brookhaven, PA
have to go there -want to have a cheesesteak and other stuff too
Great suggestions!
As a local, I will say that the best cheesesteaks are served out of the back of a truck parked in front of a warehouse across the street from a sanitation center.
People who know or learn I grew up in Philly will ask me if Pat's or Geno's is better, because they heard about them in a travel video, or mentioned on a sports podcast. I never been to either, which usually gets a surprised reaction, but it's for good reason. I'm from Tacony, so South Philly might as well been another planet, and there are at least twenty places I can remember in walking distance you could get cheesesteaks and hoagies from that were solid. It never crossed our minds to go to either, because they were just two places in a city of 5,000 cheesesteak shops.
Next time you visit, try Philly pretzels. They have an oval/oblong shape and they're the best 😋
I'm on it! Thanks for the tip!
The soft pretzels look delicious - I’m so guilty of just finding the nearest McDonald’s first whenever I go somewhere 😂
We do local food but, sometimes you just need something you know.
Watching your video for Vienna since I’m going in November and then next video is for my city lol. You give better recommendations then I do.
Well that is a high compliment, thank you!
Philly also has a great restaurant scene.
So true
Dalessandro's has a good Philly cheese steak it was so good 🥖🥪🥤
Went to the wrong place tbh, most people in Philly don't like Dalessandro's at all. To get the best cheesesteak in the city you go to John's Roast Pork or Angelo's, followed by a trip to Sarcone's bakery.
@@saiya2521 thank you for the tip 👍👍
Yuengling is awesome beer
How about a Pat's/Geno's Steak off to see who is the best?
The red gravy, I grow up with in the south and we call it, “ Redeye” gravy and it so delicious!
Sounded like two different things. This sounded like just tomato sauce.
Yep, this is not Redeye Gravy.
@@WoltersWorldEats I've had Redeye Gravy in the South. Having grown up in Philly and familiar with red gravy, I can confirm they are two different things.
Villa Diroma Meatballs are delicious!! Wine, pasta n meatballs
yummy!
Well my wife would order the Philly Cheese Steak without onions since she is alergic to them. I will be in Philadelphia in April '23 for a conference so I will have to make a stop at Reading Station and eat some of these recommended foods.
Get the roast pork … it’s better then a cheesesteak
Witout.
The most popular chip brand is Herr’s Salt & Vinegar.
UTZ!!
RAPPA scrapple is elite . 🤤
Now im hungry
I agree that the pretzels are the best. I winced when I saw the pretzel you were munching on though. Get the REAL Philly pretzel next chance you get. I recommend Center City Pretzel Co
I have watched Mark's vids about places that I know well, and he always hits the nail on the head. He is very knowledgeable and accurate. If you want to know about a place, check out Wolters World. Really
That is really nice of you. Thank you.
Go to the reading market and just eat anything
Hello, fellow, Mark Walters, today you wore the same jacket as in "the don't of visiting Chicago" 2018 video. That is how much I follow your channel🤩🤣
Scrapple is a Delaware thing big time I’m in newark Delaware by Philly native
Wawa is a religious experience here.
I have eaten at pat’s and geno’s and the one on south street. Claymont steak shop in claymont is better in my opinion. 20 minutes south on I95.
Pats and Genos is so mid it hurts. Steve’s or even Chinks on Girard ave or 1000x better
I grew up in Phila area. OMG those pretzels you just showed are NOT Phila pretzels.
The best cheesesteak is Swiss cheese, honey mustard, and spinach.
What Pretzel Place are you outside of Outside at the window.
Ishkabibles alll the way best cheesesteaks hands down
I'm a Philly native who has had a fair amount of cheesesteaks. I have never ordered one using "wit". You can order one "with cheese and fried onion" and you can choose what type of cheese. Cheese Whiz--ugh.
If if have a few hours in a layover at the airport is there somewhere you would recommend to go eat?
There's a food court and we usually just grab a cheesesteak. It's a food court so, don't expect anything sublime. 😉
@@WoltersWorldEats that fair!
PHILLY...THE PARIS OF AMERICA.
Scrapple is great when you don't eat it alot. But it's not something you want to eat everyday
Scrapple is breakfast meat royalty
Soooooo good
1. Don't show a video of an Auntie Annie's style soft pretzel and say it's a Philadelphia pretzel - it's not. The Philly soft pretzel is completely different - and much tastier; 2. BYOB in Philly means bring your own bottle - not just bring your own beer. Many people bring a bottle of wine when dining at a BYOB establishment
These tourists also go to Reading Terminal Market which is NOT where to go for real Philly food. It’s only for tourists and people who are staying in Center City. I live here and I NEVER go to the Reading Terminal Market.
@@Salvatore-wp7iiIf you work in Center City, it's a good spot to grab lunch. There's plenty good to eat there.
I'm in Dauphin County in Pennsylvania and Scrapple never look like that. When you get scrapple, good scrapple you got to go to a farmers market or you got to go to a local butcher. Scrapple and most restaurants are not the real thing.
Get your pretzels from the street vendors. The pretzels you show are not real Philly soft pretzels.
I couldn't hear a thing, audio way up, had to turn on subtitles, and man they are botched, I lived in/near Philly for many years, miss it quite a bit.
Those auto generated subtitles are pretty awful, aren't they. Sorry about the sound. We haven't gotten any other feedback like that on this video and it's ok on my end. 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Don’t go to Pat's or Geno's. Jim's Steaks or John's Roast Pork.
Also, never every call it anything but a Hoagie
That's not a Philly soft pretzel. Philly soft pretzels are longer and thinner.
It's from reading terminal markets pretzel place. So I'm calling it a philly special ;)
That's a bavarian pretzel. Next time you're in town, get one of the pretzels that looks like a chain link. Those are the ones!
? p̾r̾o̾m̾o̾s̾m̾
It's not gravy it's sacue lol
Gravy has meat in the sauce. Marinara is meatless.
WIZ is not cheese
It’s a cheesesteak not a Philly cheesesteak… smh 🤦♂️
Yes, to ppl in and around Philly it's a cheesesteak. To those of us less fortunate fools living far away, it's a Philly Cheesesteak. Because it is good and we want to give credit where it's due. 😊
@@WoltersWorldEats sorry it’s the Philly in me .. lmao 🤣
@@bretttripler576 not at all. But truly, you should be glad the rest of us give credit to the city for the awesomeness that is the cheesesteak. 😁
Love your videos , keep up the great work
You picked the wrong pretzel to showcase. That's some mall variety. Not a proper philly walking pretzel with mustard.
Anyone interest in visiting here please do yourself a favor and get a real cheesesteak not that Geno’s or Pat’s greasy trash …. Go to Jim’s, Max’s or Gooey Louie
