    Great job, looks like a winner and happy customers are the proof. I can't use cetyl alcohol sadly, too drying to my scalp. But I know many folks have no issues with it.

      Thank you. That is a shame about the cetyl alcohol. I believe it can be replaced with stearic acid or increase the conditioning emulsifier 😊

    Wow, I am a new subscriber and have been making soap for only about 3 years and like you did make a HP shampoo bar. It was sufficient, but not excellent. I love your extreme thoroughness with this particular process and have several of the ingredients already. Thank you so very, very much for taking the time to explain everything here. I am very excited to try this. I have relatively fine hair and live in a pretty dry environment where humidity is very low. So my coconut based shampoo bars were awful in a humid environment and just weighed the hair down horribly (since coconut oil is a natural humectant, it grabbed whatever moisture it could and it clung to my hair, LOL!). I like the small amount that you use. Looking forward to trying this. Thank you for taking the time to explain it all. :-)

    I've never used shampoo bars. I've been thinking of adding them to my line, although I make my own bottled shampoo & conditioner that sell well. This sounds like an interesting thing to add for people who travel a lot. Thank you for making me think about a new product!

    As a hair stylist we recommend that the Ph of hair care products should be between 4.5 to 5.5.

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  Před 5 lety +10

      I've heard varying ideas on this. Some people can wash their hair with cold process soap which has extremely high PH and it doesn't both them and others can't use shampoo at all. Some rinse with apple cider vinegar, I myself can't tolerate it. We are all so different. We wash our hair with water which is a PH 7. Most other chemicals that are added to hair such as colour, gels, hairspray etc are much harsher to the hair. Since I stopped getting my hair done and started using my own shampoo my hair has been the healthiest it's ever been.

    Hi Keeley. Just sharing a little hack I discovered last week. I was making lip balms on a cold night. It really bothers me when I start to pour lip balm using my pyrex jug and the last big gets cold on the way out of the spout and instantly sets. So I had a bit of a light-bulb moment. Got out my heat gun and heated up the spout of my jug. Wahlah. Poured in a totally melted stated all the way to the last drop. Thought it may work to use the heat gun to lightly heat the sides of the bowl when making shampoo discs as well.

But then I just watched this older video and you just mixed by hand. We did everything to the gram. Have you had an issue in the past with it not staying together? We used the Electra press from muddy soap Co. It's been four days and with we five it a squeeze it shatters 😭. Love your channel you are awesome! Thank you Sandi

    • @SoyandShea

      @SoyandShea  Před 4 lety

      To be honest I can't really answer that as I've come across the same dilemma. Since I started using this recipe, my hair is the healthiest it's ever been and many tell me the same so I am going to keep using it. There will be some that completely disagree. Sulphates are better at removing dirty and grease

    I thought and read everywhere that a shampoo should be between 4.5-5.5 as the scalp has a ph of 5.5 and hair of 3.8…. A little confused…. Sorry

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  Před 9 měsíci

      There is lots of information out there about everything but one thing I have learned since creating is that we all have personal needs. Some people can wash their hair with cold process soap at a PH of 9 whereas others can't. The other issue I see is that water is a PH of 7 which has more contact with the hair.

    Woah, finally I found your shampoo bar video. I had tried to make shampoo bar, and mine is too wet :( I guess because I add too much coco betaine or wet ingredients. How much percentage of surfactants to make shampoo hold it shape?

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  Před 5 lety

      Thank you for watching 😊 I don't use coco betaine in my recipe. My surfactant is the sodium coco Sulphate which is the bulk of the recipe. It's the oils, waxes and extracts that help hold the recipe together along with a good amount of pressure when pressing. If you check out Bath Bomb worlds website, they have a free recipe which will give you an idea on ratios.

DIY Bath and Body on Etsy has a great recipe (www.etsy.com/au/listing/630191706/diy-solid-shampoo-bars-sci-version-2?ref=hp_opfy-2&bes=1) - I used the foundation of her recipe to understand shampoo bars and then created my own recipe with all the extra additives.. Ariane Arsenault from La Fille De La Mer also provides a great recipe to her Patreons. There are also free recipes found on places like Bath Bomb World. Sorry, this is one of the recipes I don't share as it has taken a lot of time and money to create.

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  Před 5 lety

      There are lots of articles out there with all different thoughts on PH for hair care but on average all are under 7. SCS can be quite high but some brands are lower than others and once blended with the right amount of other ingredients, you can bring the PH right down.

  • @merryspiro5117
    @merryspiro5117 Před 5 lety

    Thank you for sharing this! I do have a question. I'm wondering if you use SCI or SLSA in powder form. I see you use the noodles/needle, but I didn't see if you add either one! I love your way of making it! It does take forever to get it to melt using a double boiler! I'd appreciate any help regarding the SCI or Slsa

    • @SoyandShea
      @SoyandShea  Před 5 lety

      I don't use SLSA or SCI in this recipe. I add the SCS (sodium coco sulphate) needles at about time 10:50. You can always reduce the amount of SCS and add in either SLSA or SCI in powder or noodle format. If your SCS is high in PH you would find adding them should reduce it. If you don't want to use SCS, you can use SLSA or SCI or a blend of both though I would use some in noodles format to help hold the mix together.

      It really depends on the person. Some take to it straight away some need time adjust and wash away the build up of traditional shampoo. I've been using my own shampoo for several years now and my hair is the healthiest it's been and since reformulating my bars this year, its growing super fast. It goes horrible if I use commercial ones now.

      Soy and Shea hi, I’m in Tokyo, Japan at the moment. I buy quite a few items from the US and UK and bought some botanicals from France before and I don’t recall the time I encountered issues. (I get items shipped from overseas every few weeks).
