  • Was this fake Ric worth the money? What about the pickups? This probably won't get played much as I have other guitars I prefer. Would you buy or avoid one of these? The body looks beautiful as does the rest of the guitar. Maybe it should just hang on a wall somewhere.

    Owned a real vintage Rickenbacker 1997 model (Rose Morris) 20 years ago for many years. Sold it unfortunately a long time ago and now In 2024, I wanted some Beatles Ric but not pay the big price. So I tried The 325 chickenbacker. Payed only $280 for it. Changed all the electronics with good pots and orange drop capacitors, (Except for the pickups which sounded nice and jangly even if they are humbuckers, I was satisfied with them) and copper foiled the inside of the instrument. I Put a nice set of D'addario Chromes flatwounds and this instrument is very quiet, no hum or bad ground buzz and it sounds great. Tuners are great and the guitar stays in tune. Only the polishing of paint is uneven in some difficult to reach area but nothing that can't be worked out. Remember, I played many years with a real one and all I can say is that I enjoy every minutes spent with my low low budget guitar and through my Vox amp, it's the Mersey sound again! Ant btw, I suspect the gentleman on the video was not playing with very good strings. The sound is atrocious!

    I have that very model Chickenbacker. What they got totally wrong is they only made it semi-hollow. A real Ric is hollow, so this Chickenbacker will never sound like the real deal even with replacement pickups.
    You nailed it when you said it feels like a $300 guitar.

    Don't think Rickenbacker has too much to worry about here. It is such a pity that the company doesn't license it's designs to a Japanese or decent Korean manufacturer and produce a range of value line models at the $8,00 USD price point. There are a lot of people who would buy a real RIC - esp. a 12 string model - at that price point. I get the feeling the Chinese clones will continue to get better and better over time and then RIC will have a real headache combating them. Heck, it might have to get to that point before we see cheaper models from RIC.

      i really wish they’d do that but the way RIC is, it will just never happen.

      @@4001rics I can recommend the Hagström DLX 12. Better affordable, still an equally beautiful guitar and it has the same jangle for more than half the price of the Rickenbacker.

      I'd love an import entry line. I am making my own obvious tribute out of the same model in the video. I'll do some body work. It will say Chickenbacker, bawker, Bockbockbocker or something on the truss rod cover with a red C. It will have a Foghorn Leghorn sticker somewhere. Some genuine Rick parts. Some aftermarket for Rick parts. And a one part wiring solution that will be fun and get me halfway there.

    The only thing I would do with that thing is save it for our last song, when I used to smash whatever cheap guitar I had bought for that song. [I proudly own four extremely collectible Rickenbackers.]

    Rickenbacker has deliberately paid this guy for mistuning the chicken. I have heard well tuned chickenbackers out of aliexpress played by real musicians, and that sounded just like the beatles.

    You know how to bash out some very Beatle-ey sounding jam!
    I typically must take a Chibson to the shop first thing when I get it. My most recent one also had a strangely weak bridge pup, and I ordered a cheap fake P-90 off Amazon and had my music store replace it, now all good. This one was a Chibson fake "Tony Iommi SG".

    What did you pay 150.00. Plus shipping? I wouldn’t complain too much. It wasn’t 2500.00.

    Could you measure and share the width of the fingerboard at the nut, and at the 12th fret?

    • @fischman26-China
      @fischman26-China  Před rokem

      That's a good request. Not sure that I know how to measure this correctly but it appears to be about 1 5/8" at the nut and 2" at the 12th. I posted for sale on craigslist but probably won't have many people interested. Not that I don't like it but I have better alternatives to play.

    What about the 381 made you pick it over the 350, 355, 360, 370 ?

    • @fischman26-China
      @fischman26-China  Před rokem +1

      The 381 looks killer and it has that 'bling' factor of a more expensive Ric. The big question is why the 6 string over the 12 string? Well, having a 12 string Washburn acoustic jumbo that doesn't get played very often, the changing of strings and constant tuning isn't much fun. Call me lazy.

    • @christothegreat1
      @christothegreat1 Před rokem

      @@fischman26-China Would your 12 string play just fine if you were to remove the 6 octave + doubler strings?

    • @fischman26-China
      @fischman26-China  Před rokem

      @@christothegreat1 The jumbo would play OK if 6 strings were removed. However, I have a Guild D50 dreadnaught for and acoustic that is quite exceptional. Don't get me wrong, the sound that a good jumbo 12 puts out is incredible. I would like to sell my Washburn 12 but I probably won't be able to get the money for its true value. It is a really beautiful guitar.
