No better word spoken about this issue but Hasbro has to protect the true consumer and fans from scalpers being able to buy five at one time is a scalper heaven and like you said 24-hour pre-order shuffle your feet to order or lose your chance but selling out in 5 minutes one day less than 30 minutes the next day ridiculous
A made to order option will be legit, maybe change the packaging to make the CON exclusive a bit more eye appealing than a normal release. And set a day and time for that MTO to end and when it ends then it's gone forever.
That's too much common sense for the DEI Board and Management to comprehend.
Too much of their brain power is being used to make sure we know their preferred pronouns.
I'm trying to figure out why pre-orders aren't handled this way anyhow. Why not just set a window and however many pre-sell will determine the production numbers. X amount that pre-sold and Y amount more based on some percentage of that number for the rest of the run. I suspect the current pre-order model is some kind of corporate shell game with the financial numbers. Maybe using them to cook the books and snow their shareholders
I’m a disabled veteran in the middle of farmland America. Going to California is not an easy option for me. Apparently being a Pulse member isn’t an easy option either. I’m standing my ground now. Only a handful of Gi joe and transformers left to end my hasbro toy collecting. I’ll be satisfied. I’ll still be collecting the Neca horror figures. Hasbro, money, bye bye. 🍻🇺🇸

I’m excited for Devastator, he’ll likely be my last. I also need the Ramjet reissue coming, and hopefully Seaspray. Then I’m out with transformers. I’m happy to have gotten better versions of the G1/movie figures. They’re perfect in my opinion. No need to replace again. It’s been a good run.

Limit it to two per person at sdcc and everyone that wants one on pulse.
I was so madd when I saw limit of 5 per customer and you need to be part of the Hasbro Pulse exclusive club to get in on the extra exclusives no matter how much you order on a regular already.
The solution is to just let non-attending fans order the damn things. Hasbro and McFarlane are the only companies that seem to think ordinary fans want to spend thousands of $$$ to attend SDCC and hopefully luck out an pick up a few exclusives on the show floor. This reminds me of Brian Savage's Joe Club/Convention where they would essentially taunt fans who couldn't attend the show in favor of scalpers.
Best take on this fiasco I've seen so far. "Here's the problem the fans are having. Here's what I think lead to this problem. Here are some common sense solutions to different aspects of the problem." No fan-blaming or corporate shilling. No white knighting for Brand. No shaming of people for being unhappy about the messy rollout. Conversely no tantrum and threatening to throw your toys down the basement stairs. No swearing oaths against the mothers of the public-facing employees at the company. Just a calm rational acknowledgement of the situation and ideas how to improve it
Yesterday, I was actually trying to calm people down, and take up a little for Hasbro. The reason why? Hasbro was doing exactly what they had said they would. Have in hand OAM CC figures for sale at SDCC, put a limited quantity of OAM CC figures up on Hasbro Pulse, and then open pre-orders up at a later date. I honestly thought that was a good plan, and everyone would be able to get one. The only thing I thought was silly, was the 5 per customer limit on something that was supposed to be extremely limited. They should have been limited to 1, and later on offered again with the limit increased.
However, after today's pre-order debacle, I take it all back. Hasbro screwed up, continued screwing up, and has not offered any communication or solution to help settle the madness.
Everyone is tired of Hasbro's pre-order model. Pre-orders should be unlimited for a reasonable window. The whole pre-orders being "sold out" is complete BS. Everyone knows that, and that's what makes it even more frustrating.
I'm a gun guy, and I got burnt out on scalping during the last ammo shortage. So, I understand the frustration. Having said that, I don't waste my time griping about scalpers. It happens, has always happened, and will continue to happen. I only buy from them if I have to, and most of the time "have to" is not really the case. You make the same argument I do about the true cost of getting this figure at the convention, versus buying it off of Ebay. It is way cheaper to buy one off of Ebay right now. That's something I have to think about every time I look for a new figure. I live in a very rural area, so in order for me to go to Target, Ross, a Walmart that carries GI Joe, or Ollies, I'd have to drive at least two hours one way. By the time I paid for my gas and eats, I might as well just order what I want. Even if it's full retail or a little more, I know I can't honestly get it cheaper any other way.
One opinion I will share, is I don't get the FOMO on this particular figure. It's the best kind of exclusive to make. It's cool, but if you don't have one, it's not going to make your display look incomplete. It's the perfect figure to pass up. If you can get one, good, but if not, don't let it ruin your collecting experience. I've seen fans threatening to sell their entire Classified collection, all because they didn't get this one figure. A figure that was always meant to be a limited exclusive. That's crazy. I understand being a completionist, but too many people are getting hung up on that. Like my dad always told me, it's not what you want that makes you fat. It's what you get. You don't have to have every single item to have a good and enjoyable collection.
I was lucky, and I secured my one figure this morning. I wasn't expecting it to work out, but it did. If it didn't, I wasn't going to let it ruin my love for collecting. I truly hope Hasbro gets their act together, and makes up for this disappointment, and I hope everyone of you that are wanting this figure, gets one. Best of luck to you all!

This issue has persisted for over a decade and a half, Zarana and Jinx had this issue as well. Then Hasbro trolled fans with Zayna no one asked for and Jinx in yellow regular releases. It was a mess and there were people giving every excuse in the world to give Hasbro a pass. It never changed since the Retaliation line. It's not going to.
They need to fix the phone number issue asap. Since they updated the site people have been getting that message about putting a valid phone number in. I agree with all of your points. The communication from Hasbro is horrible. Planning is terrible. There should have been a rock solid day and time the SDCC items were going live on Pulse. Also, "Limit 5" is a joke. Your goal should be to get the SDCC exclusives into the hands of fans not scalpers. Why should Hasbro care? They've got an expensive GI Joe Haslab in play. Do you really want to piss off fans right now? They want to sell as many Rattlers as possible. Keep your customers happy. IMO Hasbro should go the made to order route with the SDCC Cobra Commander. Put out the word on all of the social media platforms. Take orders for the next 1-2 weeks. Since it a MTO, they can set limit as high as they want. Everyone can get their fill.

Shit even after a billion dollar loss and firing 30% of the company, the CEO Chris Cocks(ucker), was still able to take home an 8 million dollar bonus, ontop of his base of 1.5. Must be nice to fail and be rewarded for it.
It’s a fine line … we’d have to organize that and instead of boycotting GI JOE we’d boycott everything else? The reason for that is if you boycott the Joe line and it does poorly then it’s solidifies the excuse for them doing more shenanigans to the line or shutting it down completely so instead, I would punish the other brands since we are parents and we are consumers that would be a way to punish Hasbro … just trying to be purposeful about how we “influence” them

Lots of profits come from WOTC. And I think that’s where they are putting all their eggs so to speak.

If you’re a premium member, there should be an option or feature to automatically set aside a maximum of 2 items per exclusive character in whatever brand you want. Saves us time and anxiety. It should kick in before the item goes live. Beats the bots and scalpers to the punch.
Making it available online after the show like they did would have been fine. Even offering it to Hasbro Plus members first is understandable. It was offering the up to 5 was what I've seen is the BIG problem many are upset about because it completely encourages scalping. It was limit 1 at the show, and should have been limit 1 per customer online after to get it in the hands of as many people as possible at the fair price. A lot of people who actually attended and stood in line, maybe who want one in the box and one to display out the box, so needing 2, got totally screwed. THEY have the biggest bitch in my view because someone else who just was online when they went live post show, and got 5, only took them maybe 10 minutes.
My problem is with eBay there is a person who has already sold 16 SDCC cobra commanders at a $140 and I couldn’t even get one

If you edit your address under your account and re-key the phone number there it should leave you alone on the order screen after that. After I did that this morning it didn't bother me about it come order time today and I was able to get through easily

well said. I agree with you on these fixes. this was a very frustrating experience trying to obtain just one of these Cobra Commanders. Bobby Vala had a good solution with his exclusive and it let people like myself who could not pay $100 for a single figure own a collection milestone at a reasonable price and availability.

Exclusives, con exclusives, online limited time orders, kickstarters, distribution,... All these problems have existed with toy companies for at least 15 or 20 years. The big companies don't give a s***, as long as they're making profit.
When it comes to exclusives depending on the company or brand there are sometimes levels to the exclusivity. Especially if it SDCC or NY Toyfair. In name exclusives usually mean the quantities will be ways less than a mainlime release therefore its likely supply won't meet demand. There are always many avenues to get what you want but the key ingredient is always patience.
Amongst all the ranting from angry fans, fans announcing their departure and enemies of Hasbro, it's good to hear someone with solid advice. In this day and age, it's not surprising these companies only care about bottom dollar. "Our shareholders blah blah blah". But, as you said, stand apart from the corporate robots and level with the consumer. Be transparent and offer a solution. Correct the deficiencies and build in a multi level contingency plan. I'm just hoping these missteps and lack of down to earth thought processes don't run them into the ground.

I can forgive them for making Serpentor a Con exclusive because I think they honestly thought they were going to make characters based on that video game. They probably thought they would make the occasional Serpentor or Zartan, but new characters and movie characters were their bread and butter.
They very quickly realized ARAH or the comic characters were the ones people wanted the most, then they turned that way. Mindbender and Chuckles deluxe being a Con exclusive is fine, because they will more than likely release one as a regular Retro. Gold headed Destro is fine, because you can still get the silver one and paint it or just be happy with the silver. Serppentor, even if they release him as a retro, not having that chariot is problematic. That's the COBRA EMPEROR. I think someone asked Emily in a live stream if they can rerelease that character and she said something like Hmmmm, maybe.
Im glad you mentioned social media. it seems they have zero contact with their audience other than live streams. No Q and A as far as I can tell. I guess they have the cooperate mentality that you will take what we give you, but it seems a waste to me to not gauge customer interest more. They could just send a questionnaire to every Hasbro pulse member.
The character choice was problematic for me. I think they are underestimating the cartoon fanbase. They know about the toy and comic fan base, but no one seems to be counting the cartoon fan base. Men that are 45-55 years old and have to money to buy these figures.
I have paid a "late tax" for figures, even transformers, but double? Triple? Feels scalpery.
How about this. The Con exclusive figure is signed or numbered. Maybe it comes with something extra. Then the non con version is the base figure. unnumbered, no signature, etc. For instance the Sperpentor is metallic paint and the non con version is that cheap swirly plastic.
I have been collecting masterpiece transformer for a few years now. Some could argue Fans Toys was the king of that space. Fanstoys cost a lot and you had to preorder, but if you did, everyone pretty much got the figure. You only didnt get the figure if you couldnt pay the hundreds it cost at that time. Never have they ( to my knowledge) gate kept a figure.
Marvel said we're going to print more comics, because if an issue with a first appearance is worth 100 dollar we only get the cover price. So they made sure everyone could get an issue number one. Terrible for people who collected so their issues can got up in value, but great for those who collected to have every issue.
As you said, i dont understand the reason for preorders that sell out in the first day. i dont understand Haslabs like Hasbro cant afford to just make these things and you need to hold peoples money to get them made. i dont understand haslab tiers where if a certain amount of people order you get extra free stuff, but if you dont , we keep the free stuff ( like the free stuff wasn't already factored into the initial price). Is this a discount thing? If hasbro produces over a certain amount the factory gives them a discount? Why dont they own their own factories if that it the case? or are these really thank you gifts that they lose money on ( yeah right)?

The limit of 5 per customer was a huge mistake. Not even all Pulse Premium members could obtain 1 OaM Cobra Commander. The botched pre-order time on the 2nd day was poor execution. It wouldn't surprise me if many Pulse Premium members that missed out on this won't renew their memberships after this. One way to fix this mess is to do another preorder for the figure to be produce later this year or early next year.
I 100% think it's lying to your consumer telling them preorder this at X time on y day, and screw you as a member if it's sold out in 1 to 3 mins. Tell us that everyone will be able to get one that wants one, just say that. Make more, just make more, more Once a Man and more Tiger Paws because a TON of US cannot get the Paw anywhere. And we shouldn't have to get our heads beat in by scalpers who HASBRO encourages at 100 and 150+ prices. Hasbro is just wasting my time with these exclusive preorders.
Leave the damn window open for 15 mins, just 15 mins, and take our orders, close it, then deal with the problem if you have to set aside production time for another run 4 or 5 months later, most of us don't worry about how long it takes, we just want to be treated equally and treated fairly as paying customers, as paying members. I hate exclusives, I despise them, especially if you number them as part of the collection, and you use popular characters. I wouldn't be as angry if it were not popular or numbered. 5 is fine if they intend to let everyone get their order in a timely window, but keep the orders open for a fair amount of time, 15-30 minutes, let us pre order, it's called pre order.
They need to do what they did with Mindbinder and Serpentor. Give a couple more offerings of it and communicate that is it after that. 3 minutes one day and I’m not sure how long they gave today. Idk. Not everyone can go to SDCC. It might not be worth it. Not worth this stress we deal with. Keep this hobby enjoyable.

I think that’s fine as long as Hasbro is going to make enough for everyone else. The problem is, a lot of people that go to these conventions are scalpers. That’s how so many of this figure has already been selling on EBay for 3 times the initial cost.
yes. This is a solid solution. Con people get it right away and pulse people get it a month later or whatever. add special packaging and a numbers system. Like The mickey Mouse Cobra Commander. PERFECT Example I didnt think of before. Hiss owners got him, but regular people got the regular cobra symbol of the same figure. No one was mad.
Yeah I kept hearing a ton of conflicting information. Someone said the figure would go on sale at 5 pm on Monday. it went on sale at 1 pm. People kept asking where are you getting the day and time from. people said, that's what they did last time or two // three years ago. Would have been nice from the beginning to have it all planned out ( and you let teh buyers know).
They are a business, correct. Means they should want to sell as many as possible.

I just don’t like “exclusives” much to begin with….I mean it’s cool that people that go to San Diego every July for a few days get first shot at the figures but if they are going to do that, Hasbro needs to make sure there’s more than enough for everyone afterwards. Not everyone can take time off and or afford to go to San Diego every July. Personally, I got my order in yesterday, as I was logged in way early and ready to go at 12 central but even then, it was literally sold out about a minute after I got my order in. It just shouldn’t be so hard.

I am just glad there exclusive this time was something I did not want. I missed out on Serpentor and his air Chariot that should not have been a conversation exclusive. SDCC exclusives should be for something like this- a repaint, or a character with more stuff or a deep dive character that not everyone is going to want. I hate Cobra La and I hate snake man CC. I know some people like GI Joe the Movie and those that like it I hope they can get it.
The only solution for this is to make collectable toys made to order. We have one week to get the stuff you want
The limit should have been 2 to 3 to allow more different people to make a purchase.
If it's a convention exclusive with a very limited number of units on hand, after the convention it needs to be limited to one or two units per customer, five per customer is ridiculous, and you got some people making two or three accounts (maybe more) and tocking up for resale, limiting to two will let more people have that product and hasbronwill still make the same ammount of money. Second, if it's a pre-orderm like the second day of this fiasco, make it a real pre-order open it for a few days an let the customers order what they want that way all that want it get it, that equals more money for the company. Some genuine collectors did get their figures, but most that were purchases will end up on the resale market for three to four times the price.
The limit on Pulse EU is two per person. Five is just ridiculous.
I got lucky this morning I was waiting at 8am pacific when the I was once a mancobra commander went live and I got one but by 8:02 after I checked out they were sold out again.
Was it this crazy for MoD Zartan? I know with both Mindbender and Serpentor I had to pay the scalper for both figures because I’d started collecting classified only in Aug 2023 so I’ve missed a lot of the prior Con exclusives. I still don’t own MoD Zartan
It was crazy … but this one feels the craziest? and maybe it’s because of recent memory bias? but yeah, this one feels worse than the others… it’s become one of their popular lines
@@209edd it seems to be popular among the many brands under hasbro but it’s one that comes with a lot of complaints in so many aspects of the IP.
I see the same issue arose today with OaM CoCo also and pretty much the same time range of selling out too as yesterday.
I hardly ever bother with Hasbro. I’m happy not to spend my money with them. I used to spend upwards of £5K a year. Now it isn’t even £300 a year the last year and none from now on. I don’t collect Star Wars or Classified.

As a collector This is BS I was pretty upset the fact that I couldn't pre-order this figure and I don't collect these type of GI Joes but this was the one figure that I really wanted when it was announced but I do collect the Star Wars TVC but this is the one finger I wanted
The Stopping Grinch Bots Act needs to get passed. This is a real law that would help to stop bots. Hasbro can also cancel all transactions that took too fast to be a person and ban them but that would require Hasbro to be forth a little effort and the only way that's going to happen is if sells plummet. So, stop buying Hasbro products cancel your preorders and tell them that they need to stop the Bots otherwise just keep bitching and watch Hasbro not do anything cause money talks.
Im not a "has-bro" . i can complain about a lot of things hasbro does but this is not one of them. we all bitched that mindbenber and serpentor where SD exclusives. So they fixed that by doing more off main line figures. Now we are complaining these characters are not available to the main public. What do they have to do? Exclusives are just that. These are not main line figs. It is what it is. I missed out on this fig. Oh well..... it was an exclusive. Better luck next time.

Yeah, making exclusives limited is kind of lame. If you have a model you paid to produce for your event, I feel like it would be a lot more productive in getting people excited if you were able to meet demand and everyone was happy and got excited instead of anxious and angry around event time due to the limited quantity. Seems really short sighted. Hype is always there if the exclusive was lit. Restricting availability is pretty shit.
Thank god these are only toys, i can live easily without. Dont feed the scalpers and limit it to 1 per costumer.

My understanding is that Hasbro Pulse IS NOT Hasbro, you are not ordering from Hasbro, it's another retailer that stocks Hasbro IP's. If figures where ordered "made to order" it would have to be a Hasbro store/site, but it's not. They get a specific amount of product from Hasbro and that's what they have to sell, sometimes they get more later.
Freely correct me if I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but that is my understanding. But putting these into the hands of scalpers like they did, means some people won't have funds for the next release. Unique characters, 1 per order. Troop builders 5 per order, imo. Troops should be sold at higher quantities though.
I sincerely think MTO for this type of of release is the only way to solve it for most … lets everyone order what they want, maximizes profit, and reduces the chance of it hitting clearance stores win for both sides

Is the concept of "exclusive" new to collectors for some reason? What makes an item exclusive if it's readily available to everyone and anyone who wants one? I'd wager that most people who landed the "once a man Cobra Commander" aren't too angry about how exclusive the figure is. Yesterday Hasbro said CC would be up at 11am EST today. It went up at 11 and sold out. Not sure I see what the miscommunication is.
It's more about the scalpers.
The internet has made people forget what an actual "hard to find" collectible is. There's also a younger generation of collectors that never experienced what it was like before the internet was common.

Im recently back in the sport of collecting GI Joes i love it. But boy im sorry to tell ya that the hobby is filled with a bunch of whinny bitches. If u havent learned how the game works shame on you. Go to the convention or be ready to possibly miss out. Not everytime you go out hunting you will make a kill. Be prepared to be disapointed in life and collecting GI joes, you cant always get what you want!! Eveyone who missed out 😢😢 step your game up and be ready next time!!
