    Bren, thank you for great video and detailed explanation! So you know by chance if there is a way to amplify the NFC chip slightly? So that my chip can be detected within a 1-2 meters of distance?

    • @BrenMaartens
      @BrenMaartens Před 3 lety +11

      Hey there!
      Its quite difficult to be able to amplify this signal. The limited range of NFC is actually a security feature. The only way you could do this is by using a larger antenna and a module powerful enough to output to this antenna (They do exist) but even at the maximum, you would only realistically get 20-30cm out of it.
      If you're looking to do very far range with RFID, I suggest looking into UHF (Ultra-High Frequency) Tags. These are commonly used on livestock ear tags, warehousing and clothing stores, with a UHF Reader you could do up to 10 meters.

    • @BrenMaartens
      @BrenMaartens Před 3 lety +3

      @@premium2554 HI Kubilay!
      Unfortunately you will need a special UHF reader to read UHF tags as they work in a much higher frequency. Our phones are only limited to 13.56Mhz (NFC).
      That being said, since the antennas in our phones have a limited size, the range of the NFC transmission is limited to only a few cm from your phone. All tag types will respond with the same distance.

      @MrRedstonefreedom Před 6 měsíci

      "All tag types will respond with the same distance"@@BrenMaartens simply not true at all. Bigger tags have a bigger read distance.

      @BrenMaartens Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@MrRedstonefreedom Hey man! you're actually correct. Generally speaking if the tag is bigger, the antenna is also bigger resulting in a further reading range. I don't know if it is possible, but maybe you know:. Suppose I create an application on my phone , and I want the app to check an RFID (or any other tag) to check any rfid Is it possible that the app checks this without momentary permission (so automaticcly check when reading an RFID, if it has anything todo with the app), or do you always need the users permission in that moment? I assume that if this is possible you give the app permission to check all RFIDs that are offered to the phone, which sounds unsafe, but also sounds kinda handy. Does anyone know what the permissions logic is on andriod/Ios systems?

      There are NFC/RFID writer applications that can encrypt the data, same as credit cards with RFID, this then can also be locked to writing without decryption. It could be brute force overwritten with decent difficulty with basic encyption, up to 256 and advanced encryption such as HID uses in some instances. If you're asking for convenience of reusing, yes, you can re-write over most of them.

But this is quite tedious because every time you want to open the door you need to open an app on your phone.
      If you're okay with that -
      You would also need to use an NFC Reader on your door which is connected to a magnetic door lock. Every time the NFC Reader detects the correct UID. It disengages the Magnetic Lock for 3 seconds - Enough time to open the door and walk.
