- In this Soul's Sake conversation, I am joined by the talented musician and Kirtan icon, Vijay Krsna. Vijay is a pioneer of the Kirtan and Bhakti tradition, having been introduced into the Bhakti Yoga at the young age of twelve. He is the driving force behind the "Kirtaniyas," a transcontinental Kirtan collective that infuses new life into ancient chants with youthful spirit and energy. Vijay is also the founder of Sriyam Records, which presents world beat ceremonial chart music.
During our conversation, we discussed the power of celebration and chanting, drawing on Vijay's extensive experience traveling the world and witnessing different cultures engaging in the practice. We also talked about Oprah’s recent adoption of the practice, with Vijay revealing that she begins each day playing mantras. Our conversation highlighted not just the beauty of these practices but also how beneficial they can be for all people, regardless of culture or background.
It was truly inspiring to hear about Vijay's dedication to spreading the word about Kirtan and Bhakti Yoga around the world. His passion for these practices and his ability to infuse them with new energy and creativity are truly remarkable. As well as being a talented charsimatic spiritual musician, Vijay is an articulate spokesman for the Bhakti traditions, having been trained as a student in India and europe from a young age by qualified spiritual teachers as well as being exposed to various quality traditional kirtan styles.
