Déjà vu... Seriously underated track, that riff absolutely blows me away even now and I've listened to this band for over 30 years. Tbf the whole Somewhere album, Seventh son, Number of the beast, Powerslave. Believe me those few years, nobody touched them.
Also, check out Di'Anno on Phantom of the Opera. Early maiden but boy... What an epic journey.

Okay seeing as you're looking for the references you might as well react to the Maiden song - Flight of icarus(from the album - piece of mind). There's a reference to it in this album art, see if you can spot it! :). Icarus i think was an ancient Greek or Roman tale i think.
Guitarists are Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. A third guitarist joined the band after these early albums (Janick Gers, he has contributed a lot to the newer stuff)

Been enjoyable watching your Iron Maiden reacts. See you've done 8 of their songs so far. I've been listening to Iron Maiden since 1982, at the age of 15. Probably the biggest heavy metal band from Britain, along with Judas Priest. Iron Maiden is:
Bruce Dickinson - Vocals Born: August 7, 1958 (age 63 years) Started with Iron Maiden in 1981, left in 1993 and rejoined in 1999 and present singer
Steve Harris- Bassist and Founder Born: March 12, 1956 (age 65 years), Started the band in 1975 and has never left
    Dave Murray- Guitarist Born: December 23, 1956 (age 65 years), 1976-1977, 1978-present
    Adrian Smith- Guitarist Born: February 27, 1957 (age 64 years), 1980-1990, 1999-present
Janick Gers- Guiarist Born: January 27, 1957 (age 65 years), 1990 - present
    Nicko McBrain - Drums Born: June 5, 1952 (age 69 years), 1982 - present
Iron Maiden just put out their 17th studio album last year. If you like story telling great prominent bass line, great drumming and guitar solos you will love Iron Maiden.
Next ones I'd recommend doing is Rime of the Ancient Mariner (Live at Long Beach Arena) and Where Eagles Dare (studio) - KILLER DRUMS ON THIS ONE
Murders in the Rue Morgue (named after a short story by Edgar Allan Poe) had first singer Paul DiAnno
Rime of the Ancient Mariner - (From the poem of the same name by Samuel Taylor Coleridge(story about about an ocean voyage) Epic 13+ min song
2 Minutes to Midnight - About the Doomsday clock for the End of the World
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (based on a short story of Alan Sillitoe which was made into a 1962 film
Alexander the Great (About the story of Alexander the Great) ***You've done this one
The Prisoner (based on the UK television series that ran briefly in the late 1960’s)
Run to the Hills (about the European arrival in America told from the perspective of both the oppressed Cree and the invading Anglo-Saxon soldiers)
Aces High (about aircraft dog fighting between the British and German fighter pilots of WWII) ***You've done this one
Powerslave (about an arrogant pharaoh in his dying hours, he can't understand why he's about to die and fights it in vain) ***You've done this one
Trooper (based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854,which took place during the Crimean War) ***You've done this one
Where Eagles Dare (based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps
Revelations (The work of Aleister Crowley influenced the writing of this song, starts out with a Hymnal Oh God of Earth and Alter)
Flight of Icarus (loosely based on the ancient Greek myth of Icarus)
To Tame a Land (the song relays the story of Paul Atreides, Paul Muad'Dib, from the book Dune by Frank Herbert)
Can I Play With Madness (Describes a young man who tries to learn the future from an old prophet in order to come to terms with his visions and nightmares)
The Evil that Men Do (Title from William Shakespeare's Julius Caeser, but song is unrelated)
The Clairvoyant (relates the reflections of the Seventh Son of a Seventh Son on his life and his powers)
Fear of the Dark (the fears we all have of what is in the dark) (Do Live in Rio)
Ghost of the Navigator (The lyrics are a metaphor of life, with the ship sailing west towards the setting sun representing death)
Brave New World (Loosely based on the 1932 novel by Aldous Huxley)
No More Lies (About someone who knows that his time has come with the darkening sky's representing the beginning of the end)
Dream of Mirrors (based on reoccurring and maybe premonitory dreams)
Dance of Death (Story takes place in the deep south of the U.S. where Voodoo is taking place) (Do live Death on the Road)
Paschendale (about the Battle of Passchendaele during WWI)
Brighter than a Thousand Suns (About the dawn of the nuclear bomb age)
The Longest Day (about the WWII Normandy Invasion)
That should give you plenty of material for Iron Maiden Up the Irons!

Where Eagles Dare (based on a 1968 World War 2 movie with Clint Eastwood)

To Tame a land (based on the book Dune)
    Losfer Words (big 'orra) (instrumental)

    Infinite Dream

    The Clairvoyant
There are a lot more, but I figure you should get enjoyment from these before you move onto other songs, I haven't even heard all their songs yet and I like over 90 songs.

Where you like the drums in this song the time scale is 6/8 which what hip hop musicians mostly apply. I think that's why you like it or found it familiar.

Sadly we never got to hear this live... in Bruces younger days... And now with Bruce aging, and the effect the cancer had on his throat, which I have zero doubt it damaged something. He hasnt sounded the same since. This coming from a 40 year fan, a Bruce solo fan.
Bruce will always to me be the best in metal.

Doesn't count for this song because never played live for some mysterious reason, but with most Maiden songs you should experience the live version and have the lyrics out. There are 5 songwriters in the band and 2 lyricists. Also 3 lead guitarists now, each with quite different styles.

    • @alexgasparini4548

I really disagree, always before studio, then live, both great the same, studio ALWAYS sounds better because well... It's studio it's made to sound perfect, so don't say bullshit like live is better.
On the other hand, live versions still sounds awesome and adds the live performance vibes plus audience going crazy, so imo both are awesome.
But ALWAYS experience studio version first, so you can enjoy and understand live version better, and if you listen before live then you ruined your experience of listening the studio version, because you will just think the live is cooler while in reality it's not that way.

Thank you Alex for reminding me why I'm not on social media or even subscribing to YT channels. Why so caustic? I offered an opinion. Yours may be different, which is great. Would suck if everyone's opinion was the same. I'm sure this kid doesn't have the time to be watching & reacting to studio plus live versions of most songs. Maybe we should meet up and have a fistfight to determine whose opinion is better. You could teach me a lesson for having such a bullshit opinion. Sound good?
