  • Ella #viral #srilanka #ella (Sinhala: ඇල්ල, lit. 'fall'; Tamil: எல்ல) is a small town in the Badulla District of Uva Province, Sri Lanka, governed by an Urban Council. It is approximately 200 kilometres (120 mi) east of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of 1,041 metres (3,415 ft) above sea level. The area has a rich bio-diversity, dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna. Ella is surrounded by hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations. The town has a cooler climate than surrounding lowlands due to its elevation. The Ella Gap allows views across the southern plains of Sri Lanka.
The Nine Arch Bridge (Sinhala: ආරුක්කු නමයේ පාලම; Tamil: ஒன்பது வளைவுகள் பாலம்) also called the Bridge in the Sky, is a viaduct bridge in Sri Lanka and one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country.
The construction of the bridge is generally attributed to a local Ceylonese builder, P. K. Appuhami, in consultation with British engineers. The chief designer and project manager of the 'Upcountry Railway Line of Ceylon' project was D. J. Wimalasurendra, a distinguished Ceylonese engineer and inventor. The designer of the viaduct was Harold Cuthbert Marwood of Railway Construction Department of Ceylon Government Railway. The 1923 report "Construction of a Concrete Railway Viaduct in Ceylon", published by the Engineering Association of Ceylon, has details of all the records including the plans and drawings.
Ravana Falls (Sinhala: රාවණා ඇල්ල, romanized: Ravana Ella) is a popular sightseeing attraction in Uva province of Sri Lanka. It currently ranks as one of the widest falls in the country.

Beautiful scenery by that waterfall! I couldn't imagine being one of those people hanging out of the train over the bridge! Yikes!! It does look a lot higher than 80ft. Great food in this episode as well - now I'm hungry!!

What an absolutely beautiful place. The area is so lush. The views are amazing. Mmm breakfast looks good. There is a train track trail outside of Ellsworth that is no longer in use for trains. Oh a refreshing drink on a hot day is worth it. Oh those Falls are phenomenal. Mad that that many people have died on the rocks.

It is a Sri Lankan pancake. It is yellow because of turmeric powder, and the filling is made using a grated coconut and sugar mix. Sometimes, add a little bit of trickle, like kithul. Kithul trikel is insanely expensive, so just a touch of kithul trikel or kithul jaggery.

The food looks great! Traditional food is always tempting and delicious because you connect to the place immediately. Your walk towards the train track and having coconut water is really captivating. Ravana Falls and surroundings look so gorgeous. Sri Lanka has so much to offer for sure.

    Hi Kay & GoGo,
It's Srilankan style coconut pancake with honey (pani pol) that yellow thing you had for breakfast.
In the dhal curry, I think it was pandan leave with curry leaves, not the ladies fingers. it gives an aromatic flavor to dhal curry.
Btw like GoGo's belly dance 😊

Usually when you eat coconut roti, SLns use lentilsnas a side dish. In Sri Lanka when we make omlets, we put onion, chilly and pepper. Maybe bit of salt. Some even use some herbs as well.
And you two are havinga very good time here in SL. Actually its one thing I realised when I left my country, you will never find places to stay like these for very reasonable price in any other countries. ❤

stunning! I approached the bridge coming down the hill from the non-tunnel end. It was a slippery and steep trail. Wish I had chosen to walk the tracks like you guys did. You've chosen to be there at a hotter time of the year than I was. oh and the place you stayed looked amazing! what a view and what a wonderful breakfast spread!

QK (stands for Queen Kay) do you know the reason for the Turkish Prince Gogo getting up in the middle of his delicious dinner and performing the belly dance. I found out, you have your dinner, get up and perform the belly dance, that creates more space in the belly then you sit down and eat to your heart's content . Thanks to my belly dance teacher Gogo. He has taught me so much during this srilankan series. Thanks Gogo.
