  • In this video I'll tell you how much exactly it costs to raise a kid in Copenhagen and which are the biggest expenses. I've tracked every single cost for my son's first two years and today I'll share all that insight with you.
    I didn't mention this but it's important: the pre-birth check ups and the birth itself are all free in Denmark. We might complain about taxes, but that's when you see the money to good use 😀

    Genialt 😂! You are a remarkable and generous 'freak' Mario! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏼
    PS: I am equally obsessed with cost keeping. It requires time and effort but it is so empowering!

      Once you get a child the mother gets the funds automatically every quarter

    Hey Mario! I'm also an expat in DK too and I noticed you can save a lot of money on your biggest child expense, clothes, by not buying brand new clothes. There are plenty of places you can get slightly used clothes and the kids grow out of them so fast they might only wear it for a few months. My wife and I probably only spent 1300kr on baby clothes for the first year by asking for used clothes from friends and family and shopping at second-hand stores. We are enjoying all your videos now!

      Thanks Mike! Fully agree. We saved a lot as well by buying second hand, especially in the "loppemarked" and for winter clothes. But 1300 kr is quite low indeed so good job with that! If you've any special recommendation for second hand places do ping me :)

    Hola mario, tu pareja/esposa es danesa o tiene otra nacionalidad? Porque mi pregunta es la siguiente: si tengo un hijo en dinamarca, siendo argentino y mi pareja tambien, ese niño tendra nacionalidad danesa o argentina? Muchas gracias por tus videos tan utiles un abrazo!

      Gracias! Los hijos que tengas en Dinamarca no son daneses a menos que uno de los padres sea danes. Son argentinos si queres que sean argentinos.

    Two questions: did you use formula or breastfeeding? As that would affect the cost. And what vaccines werent free?

    • @MarioScianHQ
      @MarioScianHQ  Před 2 lety

      You're really getting into the very specifics. Vaccines e.g. Hepatitis for traveling are not free.

    Curious how you track costs for the kid specifically. E.g. when I go grocery shopping and buy diapers, formula, a bunch of fruit and veggies, it would need a lot of discipline to always capture how much to attribute to the kid... I guess it would be possible if you e.g. buy child-related things only from Amazon, but I would find that a bit difficult to manage.

      I guess the response is at the end of the video---apps :)

      Just note that I don't track food costs separately - the food costs I added in the video are an estimate. For everything else is quite easy to track :)

      @@MarioScianHQ Thanks! Btw you mentioned in the video that you'd elaborate on the child credit part, but I must have missed that part somehow. Is there anything else besides the "Child and youth benefits" (4.6k quarterly)? Because it seems you folks got 10k more than that?

      I can't easily cross check as I deleted the sheet by mistake (oops). But I think it's an accounting quirk with a) when we get the payments, b) when my son got two

    If the mother has a lot of milk, it is possible to earn good money on selling the milk. 196 Kr pr. liter (2015) and it's tax-free.
