  • This video is about restoring your nasty peeling trim that is in your BMW. BMW plastics are coated with a nice rubber coating to make the car feel more luxurious which looks and feels awesome when NEW. However over time this coating starts to peel and crack. Restoring it with LVP is a great way to restore your interior back to NEW.

To Much work.... My wife watched another video and got all the trim out of her E46 M3 and sprayed it with EASY OFF BAM oven cleaner, left it for 10-15mins and scrubbed it off with the kitchen scrub brush..... It came off in sheets and was all done in 5 mins...... Washed with warm soapy water and ready for painting.........

Grey Scotch Pad and Brake cleaner works really well. And it won't take off the texture from the plastic, so when you paint, it will still look textured, like when it came from the factory. Sanding like in the video, may take that off

I found that light coats only left the finish gritty and untouchable. I had to buff down the gritty finish with jeans, yes, the kind you wear, then finally load the final coat so the whole part saw shinny wet, but not running. THEN, it dried hard and touchable. I did a video on my experience too.

Does anyone know which color is a match for the e90/e82 series rubbery black interior parts? They look like a very dark gray and not black.
Also does this leave rubberized coating like the stock parts? I have a M car which uses rubberized black where most BMWs have fancy trim and the part is no longer available new... Looking for as close to perfect match as possible or I'll need to paint every single part...

  • @matthewsporle4501

You dont need to sand or paint it, just scotchbrite the sticky shit off and wipe with interior plastics detailer and reinstall, looks better than new and you don't ruin rhe plastic underneath

All you really need to do is remove the rubber coating, the plastic underneath is fine, and for that you just use the alcohol with some shop towels until they aren't picking up any black residue.

No need all that hard work about sanding. The original bmw coat cleans off with warm water, a bit of dishwasher soap and plastic scotchbrite, as the ones used at the kitchen. Peels as easy as butter, no effort, no scratches. After that just 3 coats of Matt black plastidip and ready, as good as new.
