    If only I could afford this turntable, probably the best there is today. Beautiful design, great video, and wonderful products. I hope this means B&O will get back into producing turntables with more models, larger production runs, and lower prices, and also making more spare parts and cartridges for existing models of turntables they made in the past, it is becoming harder and more expensive to buy an ever decreasing supply of replacement parts and cartridges for these amazing B&O machines. Also, their recievers, CD players, sound systems, and more were pheonomenal back in the day, but is this not true for all of their products?

    I remember this turntable as a gimmick for the 1970s jet set. In parallel high performance designs came from Linn, Thorens, Oracle, SME, Rega, etc. B&O never made actual audiophile gear. Along with Braun it's been a leader in industrial design and lifestyle products that blend well into the home and provide a flattering user experience, but to a few exceptions (like the extravagant Beolab 90) it's never been a parangon of superlative audio. The price-to-performance ratio places the company into the ostentatious luxury arena. Meanwhile several audio engineering breakthroughs have come from a diverse and healthy Danish audio industry. Makes you wonder why B&O seems uninterested in reference parts from OEM vendors Jantzen, Scanspeak, Dynaudio, Purifi, et al. and why would one pay so much primarily for good looks and not so much for performance. This realm is dying fast : Today with a pair of well-designed active speakers, you pretty much get everything you need; just connect your smartphone, or computer - some designs even integrate the streamer, room correction DSP, wireless multizone support and so forth - all in slick industrial design that also exhibiting great craftsmanship. If this post seems offensive, it's meant to remind you guys that your thinking needs to evolve. Look at formely prestigious brands like BMW, with zero growth; meanwhile Tesla can't produce fast enough. If you married your first-rate sense of industrial design with truly superlative audio performance, robust mechanical design (sorry, that's always been a weak point of yours) AND realistic pricing, you'd be selling like hot cakes, and not just to Rolex-set poseurs.

    • @stephenduffy9370
      @stephenduffy9370 Před 3 lety

      Ouch! - but mostly correct (including the Tesla comparison...). I guess it depends how much profit they're making per unit - a low volume, high margin can probably survive in this sector, unlike the automotive sector.

      @ollyk22 Před 3 lety

      Talking shit mate. While they might not be AudioFool, B*O has innovated in many respects and produce very natural sound. Every cartridge came with its own frequency chart, and the engineering that went into the 4000 that was not advertised was just incredible. They also invented HXPro, sold it to Dolby. That changed cassette deck recordings for so many.
      They might not be to everyone's tastes but as a small company, they innovated and produced tech way ahead of their time... Did I mention they also have the worlds largest private speaker-test chamber?
      Not impressed with this makeover personally though. Asking a lot and not even replacing the control board with a more modern design, platter wasn't level in the above video and they do not address a major issue with the 400x series which is strain to the keys when repeated pressing over years but hey ho..

      @@vitorinomadeira5456 B&O have made some superb pieces. The Beolab 5000 system was professional standard with the tuner being used in many broadcast studios. The Beomaster 8000 was also made with the intention of making the best receiver possible at that time. The Beogram 4000 was massively over engineered and was very highly thought of, only being let down by the record support. Interestingly the later 4002 and 4004 were simplified but the sound was very similar. If you want a deck more likely to appeal to audiophiles, the Beogram 3000 would be your cup of tea - a Thorens TD124 motor unit with a B&O arm and cartridge - mine has the 12" version. I do have three 4000 series decks and although not the same as the 3000, they audition very well, especially with the 20CL cartridge as long as it is warm!

      @krellman7 Před 3 lety

      Bang & Olufsen has always made their own cartridges. They offered 5 different models of cartridges for this unit depending on your budget. I still have my original B & O Turntable. I bought it brand new in 1979 and had it completely refurbished at Bang & Olufsen 5 years ago. I wouldn't trade it for any other turntable.

    The reason why Bang & Olufsen turntables are bad is that they no longer make replacement parts for the older turn tables. The turntables are made to work only with proprietary cartridge and stylus, which are impossible to find as new.

    Kære Bang og Olufsen. Jeg sidder med hovedtelefoner på og ser jeres video om denne klassiker og glædes. Men ved ca 1:41 eller så når ordet core udtales er der en rigtig grim peak. Om det er støj eller en dårlig indtaling aner jeg ikke. Men for et firma der laver lyd-produkter er det ikke super genialt at det ikke er redigeret væk.....Im just saying

    Sad my less old Beosound 1 is not that timeless. The CD’s laser did not work any longer and the service refused to repair the product because it was discontinued. That's the company policy, they said.

At this price they are footballer type things, sort of HiFi Arm Candy for those who will never appreciate the engineering which went into the originals or these new ones. Something to show off to their other footballer mates whilst snorting cocaine .. Sad really.

  • @socksumi
    @socksumi Před rokem

    Much too complex and finicky and the end result was a turntable that didn't sound that great. It's greatest weakness was too lean a bass and a rather bright tonal signature due to a platter that is too light and rings like a bell The table was quite prone to breakdown and then find someone capable of repairing it. The best sounding turntables (and most durable) are simple, yet elegant in design and solid and rigid in construction. Linn, Thorens, Ariston, AR and others of that ilk actually sounded better, more musical, extracting more info from the grooves in listening comparisons.
