The song off the new album that I am waiting to see a live performance of is "Higher" because he stretches' himself vocally on that one. I watched an interview where he said "Higher" sort of scares him because the audio version is him on a good day. It's my guess that he would kill it live too. South Dakota from that same album is another good one with a great heavy on the guitar blues funk to it.
Chris is in a class by himself. I could listen to him all day. I agree with the light thing. Overly bright lights and too much strobe lighting usually triggers a migraine for me. Blake Shelton has recorded six songs that were written by Chris. He also wrong "If It Hadn't Been for Love" that Adele sings. There are a lot of other songs he has cowritten as well.

Chris sets himself apart from many country singers in his fearlessness on guitar. He's not the best player, not even in the same conversation as Gill, Paisley and Urban, but his phrasing and sense of timing and space are impeccable. Most vocalists with half his talent are content to either go guitarless or stand there with a decorative guitar strapped on for looks and to strum a few chords, Stapleton drives the songs with his playing.
I love technical chops, but, in the end, solid phrasing tends to win out. I was pointing out to Dustin how my favorite guitarist, Rhoads, was a master of shredding technical badassery, while keeping the solos melodic. The better my ear gets with time, the more I'm interested in that, and the less interested I am in "how many notes and what crazy technique can I shove into a single bar." - Keith

Gilmour, BB King, Robert Cray, Warren Haynes, all players with chops AND the taste to know when less is more.

My son isn't able to go to concerts and many programs due to the heavy strobing because he is an epileptic. He had actually went several years without a seizure and then went to a show and wound up being rushed by ambulance due to having such a severe seizure. Every since they haven't been controlled again.
I could be wrong, but I don't think there's an acoustic guitar being played. In the back row you have a guy playing steel, a drummer, and a guy on keyboards. Front row left to right you have a guitarist playing an SG, Stapleton playing his electric guitar, his wife playing tambourine, and a bass player. Not hating, just making an observation. The heavy equipment in the Army Engineers and the punch presses and air arc noise and heat in fabrication shops 'Westinghouse Electric' took their toll on mine. Yes, I used protection, ear plugs & earmuffs but I still uttered that huh word to often without hearing aids. I'm tone deaf & needed lyrics to know what Chris was singing about today. Fireworks shows aren't a problem for me. But when neighbors pop them off at random on a non-fireworks holiday, I get a little twitchy for a couple of minutes. New years, fourth of July, no worries at all. It's unexpected kabooms that turn my radar up. - Keith
