Experience the story of THE HUNGER GAMES - 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute, and decades before Coriolanus Snow became the tyrannical President of Panem.
THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12. But after Lucy Gray’s charm captivates the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. With everything he has worked for hanging in the balance, Snow unites with Lucy Gray to turn the odds in their favor. Battling his instincts for both good and evil, Snow sets out on a race against time to survive and reveal if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.

Suzanne Collins really dropped a series that shaped a whole generation, disappeared, and appears again with another hit. This woman is like the equivalent of Adele.

Yes!! I loved his back story!
There’s a fab one it’s really good !
I'd like that too but we would already know he survived.
And I'm pretty sure I remember hearing it in the book that he hid at the edge for majority of the game and the game took place in a sahara with no water... Seems pretty boring...
But I'd love to see Snow's face at the mention of another Tribute 12 Winner

Watching Snow's transition from a wanting-to-be-kind peacekeeper to the ruthless killer he was in the movies is gonna be a treat to watch

Absolute power, etc.
he never wanted to be a peacekeeper, he was forced to be one
It’s actually pretty funny, it’s more like a dip. He was a ruthless killer, ALMOST became a kind peacekeeper, then spiraled back down.

That rage where Snow starts shooting at the mockingjays in frustration is beautifully captured here. This is going to be lovely to watch.

Telling Snow’s backstory in the big screen? I’m all in for this he’s probably the most intriguing part of the Hunger Games story for me.
Yeah, this movie is based off the book of the same name so there’s gonna be more details about his life in there
omg read the book it was so good!
Uh, yeah, from the book that came out a few years ago.
The book, while the end was rushed and it was a bit messy pacing wise, was still so good because of the concepts and character arcs it introduced. I’m SO excited for this film though. I’m not a fan of the casting though. I think the only solid casting is Viola Davis, but other than that, I’m not really a fan of the casting so far.

Tom Blyth as young Coriolanus Snow was simply brilliant.
I never read the books. But I know that her Hanging Tree song was about Snow. Her being a player for D12 and singing that song must’ve made things hard when he went against Katniss. Katniss used the song to be about rebellion and it was used against him. And a player from D12 who bows similar to Lucy.
I’m so excited to see this movie!
The song was actually about Billy Taupe and after his death in the novel she used it to reach snow about the meetup, she was originally going to flee with billy
You really should read the books. They are so so much better than the movies
As a fan of the book, i approve of this trailer. They have already captured the tone and design of the book perfectly, now let’s see if they can capture the story and characters.

It was amazing. They did a fantastic job with this prequel. We see how integral Snow became to what the Games turn into. And the story is structured like a tragedy, showing his moral downfall as the events of the story progress.
I just finished the book a couple days ago, and I think it’s remarkable how every single frame of this trailer can be matched almost exactly to a moment from the book. Every image and almost every word of dialogue I could find in the book.
Is the line "See how quickly civilization disappears" in the book, too? I still have to read it (I will do it the month before the movie is out)
@@Gloria-ds9mw yeah it is! Not sure if it’s word for word but that is def taken from a conversation
I know!!! It makes me optimistic about the quality of this movie. I really hope they portray all the characters well and I have a feeling they will!!
That's what I love about the Hunger Games movies. They stay very true to the books. Especially in the first movie of course they had to shorten it but they only changed little things. They had Haymitch and Cinna explain things to Katniss that in the book she already knew, immediately getting rid of the District 4 girl because she's not really a character in the book either, having District 4 not be a career district, and having Thresh killed by mutts.
@@Gloria-ds9mwi think it’s from the conversation dr. graul had with snow about chaos
Just finished the book (literally two minutes ago) so ofc I had to run to this trailer. I'm very excited but a little worried, just because of how vital Snow's inner monologe is in the book. It's crazy how often I found myself root for him and then snap out of it, at least until the last third of the book. But even then, some of his interactions were still morally "good". Crazy good writing tbh. everyone's a good guy in their own mind and Collins captured that mental divide between Snow's actions and his thought patterns perfectly. So i hope they find a way to accurately portray this in the movie!
Same! Didn’t get to the ending yet, but almost. I keep switching between thoughts like: “he totally lacks of empathy” to “his environment shaped him and makes him think certain things” to back to the lack of empathy. Conclusion? I feel it’s a combo of the two, but he definitely drives on power and obsessions without feeling bad at all for other people. If he does feel bad… it’s only cuz it hurts him somehow as well. The way collins portrayed that is amazing. People are complex and she portrayed that perfectly

I don't feel that the actors are the good fit for those characters before I finish the trailer. But now I feel sooooo excited when I see the performance and hear the lines which reminds me every up and downs in the book.
Totally agree with "everyone's a good guy in their own mind".
@@omehbossa im so excited!!! I hope they do the book justice. And yeah i think one thing Collins just does outstandingly is show the way a young, yet already corrupted mind works. I found myself rooting for Snow at times not because what he was doing was morally or ethically correct, but because HE thought so. Genius writing that takes your head for a spin.
Absolutely agree, finished my re-read last night and I can't believe it had me UNDERSTANDING why Snow thought the way he did. Plus, I loved the ending in the sense of it sort of solidified the change in him, showed which side of his mental battle he chose. It was phenomenal writing but this trailer looks AMAZING and it seems from what I've looked at, they've stuck to the plot somewhat, especially that scene of him wildly shooting at the trees, right down to the buzzcut he gets in part 3 of the book. I am VERY excited!
i really thought they deaged Stanley Tucci to play the announcer but then i looked it up and realized it was Jason Schwartzman. This movie was great.

I LOVE the little detail that Lucy gray was the one to create the hanging tree song that Katniss sings. Just another dagger in Snow's heart so many years after.

The design on the arena bugs me. The Capitol is stated (in this book or in Mockingjay, can't remember) to be in what was Denver. As an Architectural student, I find it fitting that they chose Brutalism and a hint of Neoclassicism for the architecture of the Academy. Brutalism being one of the post-war architectural styles created for the reconstruction of Britain after WWII so its the perfect choice for post-war Capitol. And the columns of the facade of the Academy are reminiscent of the classical orders from classical Greek and Roman architecture gives a sense of grandeur and superiority.
The academy is basically the „Altes Museum“ in Berlin
The academy building in the first shot is quite literally Altes Museum in Berlin, same landscape and Roman bath and fountain and everything. Just with a CGI 2nd level, statue, and background
The arena building is Centennial Hall in Wrocław
As someone who’s spent maybe 2 hours of googling of architecture, I agree
Its very Stalinist in my opinion.

The most anticipated part for me will be the relationship between Lucy Grey and Snow. To witness the beginning of Snow to the power-hungry and ruthless president counter part in the original trilogy... So I’m currently reading the book, chapter 8, and I’m really loving how much of an unreliable narrator Snow actually is. He is beyond delusional, which works really well in writing. I am a little concerned of how well that will actually translate on screen. He’s very good at saying all is right, empathetic, things, and dialogue, but his internal thoughts are would give away how absolutely out of touch. This was so well done as a film. I haven't read the books but the way some things are foreshadowed towards the Hunger Games with Katniss is brilliant! Some times I felt like the foreshadowings were too in your face, but for the most part it felt very much like the Hunger Games.
The nostalgia hits hard, I cant wait for this. Very interested with Snow's backstory knowing how messed up he turned out to be. And donald sutherland's voiceline was the bomb, he played snow so damn well.
The most anticipated part for me will be the relationship between Lucy Grey and Snow. To witness the beginning of Snow to the power-hungry and ruthless president counter part in the original trilogy... I hope that the movie will also include a version of "The Hanging Tree" - but Lucy's version. First of all SHE was the one who wrote the song for non other than Snow himself. Looking forward how the the upcoming prequel movie is gonna portray Snows betrayal towards Lucy. Cause I shed tears while reading the book....
I never would’ve thought President Snow would be that complex of a character from just the first book/movie
Nostalgia? It's only been 8 years since the last one...
@@MagikarpMaestro that's a long time for a series almost a decade

I mean 8 years ago I was barely starting high school. Now I’m 22 with a full time job.
One of the things I always hated about dystopians was their focus on character love stories instead of the interworkings of the world. So I’m really pumped about learning the history and lore behind the world we saw in the og trilogy
Just read the book, it’s all there
well about that…
U can’t read or what
I think worm by wildbow will be a good book fod you to read. It started out as YA kind of story but as it progresses boii ur in for a treat
Hunger Games definitely doesn't have the focus on the love stories. Books are like 100000 better than movies. Of course I'm not judging this new adaptation because this movie, at least in the trailer, seems very close to the book. We shall see the final result
This movie was awesome, solid 9/10!
Can I watch this movie without watching the hunger game mockingjay? Bcs I only watched hunger game the catching fire
@@giogremoryYes, it's a prequel.

It is very good that they even touched Capitol aestethics. While in Katniss' timeline, Capitol people having extravagant fashion with too many plastic surgeries. But in Snow's youth, their style resembles retro and they wear more modest clothing. Such a good detail 👍🏻
If you look closely at the costumes, you can see how the "Capitolian chic" was born, as well as you like the detail when the panorama of the Capitol opens, behind the old buildings in the style of Stalin Empire, modern skyscrapers under construction are hidden. The only thing I didn't like was the use of analogue technologies of the 80s, because the actions in the book are already taking place in 3000. And these retro screens, as well as the graphic design used for TV shows and posters, combined with conceptual laboratories with genetically modified animals, do not look thoughtful. I've been waiting for the director to beat this time loop, alas, it turned out to be Blade Runner 2049.
His sister(Hunter) is the one who invents capital fashion of Effie Gray and is in the movies as the Tiger Woman who transformed her face to hide her relation to Snow
@@nikitam4720I would comment that they are just rebuilding following a massive war that has for example bankrupted Snows family.
@@juliannehannes11 he doesn't have a sister?
@@nikitam4720 THG is set in the 2200s. The prequel is supposed be sometime in the 2100s. It make sense to look retro because if society really fell a few decades from now, by the 2100s they would just reincorporate things previous generations did (80s, 70s, 60s).
the book was so damn good it left me with goosebumps. highly recommend reading it before watching the movie!
going to definitely now!
edit: just bought the ebook, going to start it this evening!
What book is it
@@borris3768 same as movie title
I agree… the book had my eyes glued to the pages…
It looks just like the book!
It's crazy that I only started watching the hunger games a few days ago, like the original one. I never watched it because I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch another series from a dystopian novel. Now I've watched it, I can see why it's so popular. I will probably watch this one next, looks really great
They should make a movie about first hunger game and the event when hunger game is decided to be held.
There isn't a book about that to adapt into a movie.
@@jennifergreen6510 they can suggest the author to write
@@happycheers6947the author, like Lucy Gray, only creates material when she has something to say. She doesn’t care about the money she could make. TBOSAS was her return to THG 10 years after Mockingjay was published. So be ready to wait for a while lol
@@happycheers6947That's not going to happen. I guess you're not a writer otherwise you wouldn't say something so dumb.

Movies like this is why movie theatres will never go out of business. I will definitely be watching this on the big screen!
People being pre-conditioned to be hardwired to an addiction to illuminated flat screens, is the biggest biased problem here. What you love will always be the downfall.

If I were the director of this movie I would have moved mountains to have Charles White play district 8 helper.
Moist Boy ? The silent str0ker ? He would deliver a masterpiece
district 8 helper was such an underrated goat in that movie
I agree. He was crucial in the series’s success

@@alexg4218 I think
PERFECT casting for Flickerman (or w.e his name was...sorry, it's been a lonnnng time lol.) with Jason Schwartzman being the young Stanley Tucci.
Not only are they both GREAT, but it's so fitting! Hes got all the same mannerisms and way of speaking, just going off of the trailer.
Cant WAIT to see Hunter Schafer at Tigress!
They need to give Viola Davis a few awards for how well she brought Gaul... I couldn't get over how absolutely unhinged she was...
every character was cast so perfectly, especially viola davis and peter dinklage. i cannot wait till november i’m so excited
I completely agree, both of their casting feels so off but I'm glad that a lot of the lines they have are pretty much word for word from the book. I imagined Highbottom being just some old tall thin man with grey hair like John Rawls or something and Gaulle as basically Edna from the incredibles. If they had to race swap people for quotas ngl I would much rather Sejanus' family because I always imagined his parents at least as being black (especially his father looking stout with a thick moustache) but that is just my opinion lol
@@societyoflearning5571 me too i imagined high bottom like a tall skeleton thin guy but i love the casting either way
@@ynnl74It was also a detail in the books that Snow was on the smaller end, due to the malnutrition from the war
I'm surprised at how accurate the trailer seems for a book adaptation. I hope it will get to impress me as much as the book did
Did you also have the Freemason symbol in the book?
Amazing, Brave and awe inspiring! Pure chills
This movie had Peter and still achieved me being fixated on everything else except him. HUGE CONGRATULATIONS, I can be a pain in the ass when it comes to movies but boy did this one deliver...
See, this is how you do it! You take a franchise/saga and you explode its potential by deepening in its story background, looking on the past and future of it. You don't make a new version of something that already exist! I'm loving this new way of watching the Hunger Games world, thank you! I was really missing this type of dystopian movies!
But sometimes, producers should accept the reality that everything has an end. It might not always be a good idea to make a prequel or sequel , but in some cases, such as examples of The Witcher: Blood Origin or The Matrix: Resurrections it was a bad idea .
From the trailer, it appears to be a Hunger Games-like movie with a different cast. I could be wrong, but I don't feel comfortable with it. I think it will have the same outcome as The Matrix: Resurrections.
It's based on the prequel book that expands on Snow's backstory.
@@Emy-vv6zd I dont think you know anything about this story - read the book. This is not another repeat or copy of the hunger games. Its about President Snow's backstory and how he came into power.

The mockinjay whistle hits so deep
Just that BOW that Lucy Gray does is absolutely incredible. Rachel captured it perfectly.
Also, the use of the "It's the things we love the most that destroy us" line and the mockingjay song at the very end? GENIUS! Not to mention Viola Davis!
I found out that Rachel improvised that bow herself
Isn't it katnisses bow?
@@lis7992 yes, it is

She just copied Jennifer Lawrence's bow.
There is a severe lack of District 8 Hospital Helper.
After listening to all the criticisms and having read the book before the premiere date.
The film is solid and deserves more credit.
Seeing this movie really shows how broken and selfish people can become with love and power. I could never hate Lucy for leaving Snow, it shows how he couldn't be trusted if he has the guts to betray his best friend of many years. With or without the intention of killing his friend, that was a horror sign for Lucy to get out before it's too late. He turned his back on his own cousin who wished him nothing but love and support.
"it's not just about winning, EVERYTHING IS ABOUT WINNING" chills running in my spine.... Favourite book and most awaited movie from childhood
I can not tell you how terrified I was when this was announced because I didn’t want them to ruin it, but after watching the trailer I am literally so excited. The book was really good so hopefully this will be too.
