- This is the first time I've made a video on quarter crack repair. Here I explain how we alter the foot balance, change the loading, and finally make a very strong hoof repair. Contains an explanation of the types of quarter cracks, foot trimming protocol, preparing the crack for repair, mixing the glue and creating the patch, applying the patch to the crack, applying the heart bar to the foot.
Thank you to Carl Bettison at Stromsholm Farriers Supplies for organising and filming.

Great video Simon, for me the footage of the horse walking and then the discussion of the deficit was great.
A young person would be very fortunate to of learnt his or her craft from this gentleman. Brilliant!!
Thank you Glenn.
I live in Australia and we do keep out glue in the fridge. Plus our beer.
Nice work
I use a micro drill to clean out the area before repairing the cracks. This eliminates a fair bit of the damaged area as well as clean out the microbes that might cause infection.
I find this facinating.
Amazing work! X
Thank you!
That Horse walks like me first thing in the morning, kinda rough, not a smooth transition hardly between each step. I love the slower motion so we can really see it and think about it.. Thanks for your time and sharing your thoughts and knowledge.. I have a camped forward, long pasterns, club footed horse, id love to send you a few pictures.. She is whooping me.. I can't make out how to best help her as far shoeing could use any ideas.. Its a triple head scratcher. 😂
Please send the pictures to me here facebook.com/drsimoncurtis -Simon
Dr. Curtis, what is the typical duration of this sort of treatment (I am assuming you are doing 4 week cycles for this client)?
Great video by the way. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
I thought about infection and that’s why I wondered y\why you wouldn’t clean with iodine or something like that.
💯
Is there any update from this horse? How did the quarter crack grow out? Did he remain sound?
Would it be better to use copper sulfate behind the patch to prevent infection
Yes I wondered the same thing but he did leave a channel open for application of any antibacterial.
What is the glue pl
I live in Arizona. What in the world was all that wet stuff when the horse was walking?
