    • @Ferrothorn462

      @@jngo172 Well, more children keep existing so when the 7 year olds from Johto are grown up, the 7 year olds from Alola are 7 year olds(there's much more of them too), and others have silently moved on
      Some still play cause rare things are only worth anything when people want it. Because they can't get it or they want it, like a skin in fortnite, it really isn't worth anything. Kids have a dopamine bar like a hunger bar in minecraft
      Another factor is that "this game was their childhood" but they should probably move on
      I say all of this as a pokemon fan, I really like it but every game follows the same type of plot and they don't do different things often
      They also do (actually very smart) stuff like removing a feature from a new game and then adding it back in the next game, easy money for people being robbed of something easily fixable
      So when shinies have another effect in the next game but not in SV, this is an example
      Or when they add back set mode, little stuff like that but at the end of the day they are profiting and people are more likely to spend more money to be satisfied in an intentionally bad game than to drop it and feel happy. That's how corporations get big and stay big
      Think back to math class with Absolute value. Negativity gets more attention which can be used to advertise the good parts. Negativity bias and lower attention spans work well for this. Seeing the psychological factors and potential ones is key to understanding more
      I don't think most people know these things though, it would be nice if other people knew, but unfortunately 'nice guys finish last' so the people talking about those issues (if there are any) are clouded by the next new nuzlocke challenge (they're all the same)

    That BDSP reveal trailer screamed, "we're throwing ILCA under the bus." It was so bizarre how the specifically pointed out that some one else would be doing the work, almost as if they were saying, "here's who to blame." I knew from the moment I saw that that something was up. Not to mention, I later learned that they were sabotaged, told to hold back as not to out shine Arceus. Those games were treated like budget titles in a series that is already treated as such.
    Even worse, when I saw that ILCA was making One Piece Odyssey, I knew something had gone wrong. That game looked amazing and played as such, when I got my hands on the demo. I noticed it looked strikingly similar to Dragon Quest 11 and-- oh, wouldn't you know it, ILCA helped make that game.
    Those guys got a bad hand and, just as the company intended, they're constantly being blamed for those remakes flopping.

    "it will sell well anyways" is why, unfortunately, a boycot will never fold GF and TPC. Not to mention, in the event of a succesful boycot, the games make but a drop compared to everything they racket on merchandising and licensing.
    However, with the release of SV and their... interestig graphic shenaningans (as well as turning every Switch into a portable heater), Nintendo had to put out a statement. I don't think they have *ever* in their recent history, to put out an estatement regarding the state of a game on release. And I don't think this is something that Nintendo likes very much, considering how invested they are in the image they project.
    GF is a company trying to make a 60$ AAA game with the structure and budget of a 40$ handheld, that is going to burst eventually and we're already seeing the craks. Economic preasure might not ever come to be the solution, but perhaps their public presence can tank low enough to force them into changing things.

    • @matiasrivas1692
      @matiasrivas1692 Před 11 měsíci +19

      That does seem like the likeliest reason for things to change. Nintendo cares alot about it's public image, they must know how much a couple of unpolished releases can tarnish a franchise's name even long after they've grown past it. They don't even have to look overseas to observe that phenomenon, they just have to look at Sega.
      Despite the nature of the three way deal they have with Game Freak and Creatures Inc., Pokemon games have Nintendo's name all over them and have been a regular fixture of their release schedule since at least the early 2000s when the Pokemon Company was formed. And now they see that one of their major franchises has been gaining a reputation for being uninspired, boring and underdeveloped since Gen 8, and now Gen 9 is adding technically unpolished to the list. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo brought up some concerns in a meeting.

    • @laggingdragons
      @laggingdragons Před 11 měsíci +9

      Werster sort of talked about this, actually. The point of a company is growth, that's capitalism in a nutshell. Pokemon is Game Freak's only product, essentially, and while it continues to break records for itself, it grows in revenue less and less each time a new main series game drops. It's to the point where if you chart the growth of game sales for series like Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, etc. Pokemon comes out with an embarrassingly low curve compared to every single one of its competitors. Yes, Pokemon prints money (as the old memes begging for Gen 3 remakes back in the Gen 5 days said), but the people up at the top of the company can very clearly see that if they keep squeezing the life out of this franchise (the biggest franchise in the world, mind you) that they'll eventually squeeze out all of that life and kill it, and if they value long-term growth and success (as they should if they're trying to be a successful company) then they'll change things to prevent that from happening. I think that's why Legends: Arceus even exists and that the very public blunder that was SV's release showed them that merely changing the formula isn't going to work anymore, that the rot runs deeper than that.
      I'm not optimistic for Pokemon's future, nor am I hopeful that the games will get better. But if I know anything about the way the world works it's that at the level upon which Pokemon as a franchise operates, money literally makes the world go 'round, and that those people up on that shelf overhead know they need to change things and they need to make sure those changes happen swiftly and that they don't backfire. Pokemon will be very different in a few years, if money says anything about it (and money always talks).

    I don't have much to add in this video, except I've always found the decision on ILCA handling BDSP was always insidious on some level.
    The only big Pokémon name associated with the project, as far as I know, was Masuda.
    What is it about ILCA? Is it a matter of game industry nepotism, or is it some kind of managerial 4D Chess? I know that game dev circles, even in Tokyo, were fairly tight. If Masuda wasn't favoring someone he knew, it could mean one of two things that I can think off:
    A- There was an active effort to undermine mainline Pokémon outside of Gamefreak's hands, by creating a scenario where another small team couldn't do the same with a much anticipated entry and preventing TPC or Nintendo to be enticed into somehow take it from GF's hands.
    Or B- In the off chance ILCA actually pulled it off, the company could be acquired or bought out and assimilated into doing some heavy lifting in future projects.
    Either way, it always felt like there was some kind of game at play. This is not a decision that would have been made without an ulterior motive.

      It might be Gen X or XI till we see any real hits to TPC. TCG products are constantly out of stock even after day one and Pokemon has promised to print to demand. Merchandise sales have been increasing as older fans start earning income, they have also partners with several other companies to make products like baby items, phone accessories, food, etc.

    Out of curosity I also looked at Pokemon Company International. On glassdoor they have a 4.4 with 100 reviews, while on Indeed they have 17 reviews with an average of 3.9.
    Generally the pros are that, you work with Pokemon, work culture is very easy going and inclusive, above average benefits and salaries. Also friendly environment, clean and large offices.
    The cons is that management is very hands off (since they wait for commands from TPC before doing anything) so there are periods of no direction, lack of independence, below average policies for work from home policies during COVID. There are also a few extreme reviews on how HR is very corrupt and that everyone plays office politics (since work only ramps up during the marketing cycle) but if you don't play then you are left alone. Also that because they take orders from TPC things are very slow to change or implement.

As soon as qa or the devs start complaining they are seen as infantile and will be treated as kids from there on, because "they do not understand what we are doing". As a product manager I have been let go before for challenging this and that eventually having a good quality product will not only create initial sells, but will create continuous revenue (for future products). On top of that keeping up with qa related stuff will reduce future development time, which non technical product managers seem to be unable to understand. So yeah really sad to see this happening.

    I think that as long as Pokemon runs on these tight development cycles without having the team size to accommodate it, there's always going to be significant issues with new Pokemom games. Of all of their IPs I don't understand how Nintendo lets Pokemom fall to the wayside like this. They put so much more effort into much smaller IPs. They need multiple large teams working on the different games so that each game has at least a 5 year development cycle. But I guess if it sells so well regardless then why would they invest more time and money into the games? It just doesn't seem like nintendo to do that but they have and its been sad to see Pokemon get worse and worse over the last decade and a half.

    • @zjzr08
      @zjzr08 Před 11 měsíci +7

      There is a Masuda statement somewhere (ironically I got it from a seeming Masuda defender) that TPC and Nintendo doesn't force GF to do what they don't like in developing the games so I assume they have to be hands off with GF. There's also a more official interview where Masuda and Ohmori said they don't necessarily need yearly releases, but they want to because "they want to introduce as many people to Pokemon as possible". Either it's just an excuse for their profit model or they have a horrible fan quantity vs fan quality mentality. As some say here the concept of Pokemon is the best thing about it. Regardless of product that attachment is what players and fans are having to keep the rose-tinted glasses in IMO.

    • @bigshaxx2446
      @bigshaxx2446 Před 11 měsíci +4

      @zjzr08 I mean besides trying to introduce new fans, Pokemon is the largest multi-media franchise in the world. To get there and maintain it nintendo has followed the same formula year after year for the last two and a half decades and its worked better than anything else in the world. The frequent release of new games leads the development of the card game, TV show, movies, merchandise, and more. Delaying games or making their release less frequent affects everything in the Pokemon brand and would significantly impact their profit margins, more than anything else they work on. But then why doesn’t nintendo higher more skilled and larger teams to work on their pokemon games? It's already apperant that nintendo is willing to look to other game studios to develop their games beside game freak but even then it still looks like they are cutting corners when investing in their games which is bizarre to me. It dates back as far as then contracting Genius Sonority to make the gamecube spinoffs. Why won't Nintendo invest more into the development of pokemon games? I couldn't imagine that an extra couple hundred million in game development wouldn't turn a proportionally sizable increase in profit. The only way I can rationalize them cheaping out is if the games are small drop in the bucket for the pokemon companies earnings but that still seems short sighted as I think better games would drive a massive increase in profits from all other forms of pokemon media. I feel like people, especially in my generation who grew up with gens 1-3 are dying to get back into pokemon but the games are so mediocre that few people in my age group are. Even though it is the biggest mutli-media franchise in the world, there is a huge untapped market that pokemon is still missing and it blows my mind that nintendo seemingly doesn't see it.

    • @zjzr08
      @zjzr08 Před 11 měsíci +7

      @@bigshaxx2446 The thing is the 3 year cycles WEREN'T always there. Gen 3 and Gen 4 have 4 years each and interestingly had the most spin-off games. Also they sadly also cannot fully take away GF's license to make mainline games due to GF part-owning TPC. They can however ask some other developers to make something to complement their games like what happened in Colsseum, XD and BDSP.
      Nintendo was more hands on when Iwata was alive but I think GF had more of a say there. Maybe the other branches of Nintendo development had their hands full already.
      It has to start with GF IMO seeing they themselves have very few equipped people in development.
      They may ask people like from Monolith Soft to help but they probably need co-crediting like what Smash Ultimate did with Bandai Namco.

    • @bigshaxx2446
      @bigshaxx2446 Před 11 měsíci +3

      @zjzr08 And it was also during that time that the quality of Pokemon was at its peak, but the profits weren't as high. Quantity over quality here has benefitted pokemon's profits, but given how large the brand is now, it's completely realistic that they can do both.
      It would be nice if the motivation for change came internally from Game Freak, but they also have the least to gain. TPCs' profits would explode if game appeal broadened as it would affect the entirety of the pokemon brand. Even if game freak have to be involved, why wouldn't people higher up at TPC and Nintendo not realize that investing more money into Game Freak would probably yield significantly greater profits? Unless... they have and it didn't pan out? There's no point in guessing but even still, why not invest in more reputable companies to create better spinoffs then? I get that PLA made sense for game freak to develop since they were moving in that direction with SV but then why not have another company work on a game with a similar scope who can actually execute it well? There are just too many things here that don't make sense to me.

    The saddest thing is that, as lackluster as the games were, BDSP is actually fairly well made for what it is and is one of the most technically sound mainline Pokémon games on the Switch. It's not a great-looking game, but the graphics did improve between the initial trailer and the final release, something Game Freak's games never, ever do. It's locked at 30 frames, but it very rarely drops below that, if it ever does. They basically recreated the entire Pokémon engine in Unity, impressive considering how little time they had to make the game. The Grand Underground was hands down the best part of the game, and that was all ILCA. The Elite Four and postgame battles were 90% brand new and definitely designed by hardcore Pokémon fans. Seriously, Cynthia's Milotic used Ice Beam on my already buffed Thick Fat CurseLax for no other reason besides _going for the 10% chance of freezing the move has._ That's just... I could not believe an NPC trainer thought of something that smart after an entire game's worth of pushover battles.

Despite its flaws which were a lot I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun at points. Though it was the first switch title I played so I gave it the benefit of the doubt, but then came legends arcesus and BDSP came and well the issues I had with S&S persisted, and well BDSP wasn't offensive just didn't have to ambition HGSS or ORAS had that it didn't really hold my attention, didn't even bother finishing it.
      Legends Arcesus was more Ambitious, had some experimental features, slowdowns in some areas which was indicative of the future...Still couldn't be bothered to finish that. Then Scarlet and Violet came around, continues the issues from other games, but has it's own host of issues I can't even be bother to justify buying in ANY capacity. To this day I still haven't, even the flak S&S had it was at the bare minimum functional but those games weren't even that at the time. Plus I just don't see any great innovations in the series worth the purchase besides the next 'Gimmick of the Gen'. Maybe I'll check out Gen 10, but the fact that I would actively not want to buy a Pokemon game is sad from a fan's perspective but they really need to improve.

    13 reasons why BDSP are the WORST remakes of all time:
    1. Faithfulness: Unlike other remakes, BDSP literally copy/pastes 90% of diamond/pearl(2006). You cannot copy almost everything from a 2006 game.. (Remember its a remake not a remaster!). Almost everything is copied: All dialogs, the storyline, the chibi art style, the national dex, old pokemon encounters and even the Poketch were copy & pasted to this game. Pokemon games have been improved in the past years and had many quality of life changes like 3D art style, overworld Pokemon encounters and reusable TMs. None of these changes were adapted to the game which is just sad. This game is too faithful and faithful sounds more like a excuse for lazyness.
    2. Not-Platinum-Based: So they copy & pasted 90% from the old Sinnoh game but not based on Platinum? Diamond & Pearl had several weaknesses and Platinum fixed many of them and included many Quality of Life changes. Here are some Platinum improvements over Diamond/Pearl: It extends the storyline with additional content, new dialogs, new characters like Charon and a new map Distortion world (loved it). The rival was a bit too weak in Diamond/Pearl which was fixed in Plat. The Poketch has a reverse Button. It has the battle frontier. And finally: the Sinnoh dex which was baaad in Dia/Pearl was fixed. The bad sinnoh dex in dia/pearl has only very few Fire Pokemon (very weird). Gym leaders were forced to use weird mons in the main game like Electric gym leader using Octillery or IceType gym leader using Medicham (WTF? Despite Sinnoh having enough Ice/Electric mons) and also many sinnoh mons were restricted to the postgame. Thats means many of the favourite sinnoh mons cannot be used in your team for the main story. But Platinum fixed this issue and created a NEW sinnoh dex which fixed all these issues which made the main story like a sinnoh game. ALL of these great changes of Platinum where NOT included in BDSP. This means BDSP uses the OLD sinnoh dex, OLD dialogs, OLD storyline, NO new character like Charon, NO distortion world and NO battle frontier. That makes BDSP a worse Sinnoh remake than Platinum which was released in 2008. (Imagine a 2008 DS game of the same Region beats you in ALL aspects. WTF)
    3. EXP-Share & Friendship-System: One of the most hated features is the EXP-Share system which often leads to WAY more exp than in the past games. In my opinion, the EXP-Share is not too bad. BUT diamond/pearl were not designed to be played with the new EXP-Share system. So if you include an EXP-Share system, you have to increase all levels of the pokemon (from opponent). But they didnt which makes the difficulty of this game too easy.Basically, my whole team was too oveleveled. And the friendship-system is the worst luck-based system i ever saw. A feature that increases the Critical hit-chance,removes paralysis, lets me dodge 100% accurate moves and even lets me survive moves with 1HP. WTF did you smoke gamefreak? And the worst is that, you cannot make any of these optional. Because of that many players who love to do a nuzzlock in Sinnoh, prefer the old DS games.
    4. No Innovation: This game not only copy & pastes the majority of its content, it adds nothing new to the game. Lets review some good remakes: HeartGold/SoulSilver (HG/SS) were Gen 2 remakes and included some storyline from Crystal and added many new stuff like the pokeathlon, battle frontier (from sinnoh), gen 1 map/storyline, a complete national dex and the pokewalker. HG/SS were not copy & pasted, but actually remade the game and added good new stuff. Also Alpha ruby&omega saphire (ORAS) have new changes like new art-style , new designs for Team magma/aqua, new Mega-forms, new Primal forms, changes to dialogs and storyline and the complete national dex. BDSP on the other hand does not provide any kind of major change in the game which makes this game really boring. It does have a new Underground which has overworld pokemon, but that is nothing special for 2022 and the ramanas park was neat but nothing too exciting.
    5. Underground/Super-Contest: The old underground allowed to create your own living room with furnitures and set traps to troll friends online. Both were removed for a statue system which is really boring. Collecting statues and the effects of the statues are really disapointing. The Super-Contest used to be a fun-mode where you had many different options had to have good reflexes to do the correct moves at the correct time. Now all you have to do is Press A at the correct time and use 1 attack. That makes this mode so boring and disapointing. I mean, was it really that hard to let the player press like 4 different buttons instead of just 'A'??
    6. Art-Style: Many of us expected a modern review of Sinnoh in a 3D human like Art-style. But they decided to go for the Chibi-Art-Style. Everyone has different tastes but in my opinion the Chibi-Art-Style ruins many serious moments of the story line of this game, especially vs team galactic. It feels like all the emotions of the characters were removed. The reason why it was used in Diamond/Pearl was because of the limited hardware. In my opinion the Chibi-Art-Style waas the wrong decision and does not suit a switch game at all.
    7. Only Gen 4: BDSP has a national dex which includes the pokemon from Gen 1-4 which is basically the same as Diamond. As a player who would have loved to see Pokemon from Gen 5-8 in Sinnoh, i am disappointed. At least some Pokemon post Gen4, or some new forms or at least add Sylveon in this game. Not even mega-forms were included in this game. The fact that 95% of the megas are from Gen1-4 and the underground being the perfect place to grind the mega-stones, makes this decision even more disapointing. The biggest joke is that dialga and palkia got new forms but not in included BDSP.. The reason why diamond/pearl was limited to Gen 1-4 was because there werent any other new pokemon. The reason why BDSP limited the game to Gen 1-4 is because of lazyness..
    8. PVP: On of the worst things in this game is everything arround PVP. The worst disrespect a main series pokemon game can get, is when GameFreak calls that all the competitive tournaments including the world championship will not take place in BDSP (WTF?). Unlike Sword/Shield, you have no option to search for PVP matches which makes it way harder to find battles. But the worst thing is the grind for a PvP team: TMs are not reusable (WHY?!). For some important TMs like Earthquake, you have to grind for 80BP (WTF). Also you cannot catch pokemon with hidden abilities except those from poke radar. To get the hidden ability you have to grind for the ability patch for 200BP (WTF. Grind competitive to create a competitive. Nice system). By putting important PVP items behind such high grind walls, it makes creating a PVP team disgusting.
    9. Events: The events were also copy & pasted from Diamond/Pearl. Same Shaymin event, same Darkrai event. And other events are only accesible if you bought other main series pokemon game (Why..). And finally some garbage "events" which include some useless statues. Meanwhile, the 3 year old SW/SH getting better and innovative events like new PVP cups/tournaments and some legendary shinies. In my opinion the events in BDSP are disapointing.
    10. Bugs/Glitches: Holy Moly! This game had so many bugs/glitches! You dont even need hacks, when the game itself has to many glitches. Many of them where completely op. Pokemon clone glitches, item dupe glitches ruined the game. You could even get infinite money, create shinies (WTF), make pokemon 6IV and let Pokemon learn any move. I used to be in a discord for trading in BDSP and because of the glitches, the trade market was only about getting shiny 6IVs etc. Not to forget to mention the soft locks which made you restart the whole game which can happen for example in the ice gym. Usually every games has a few bugs. But this one had too many and too many game breaking glitches. A very hyped game like this shouldnt be developed by a 3rd party company.. But Gamefreak had other plans..
    11. Controls: The controls of this game feel weird and uncomfortable. Characters move in a grid which looks so weird during the storyline. The pokemon who follow me often block me in a bad way. The underground has many inivisible walls which makes moving in some rooms horrible. And finally the control with the cycle are the worst. The cycle in pokemon games are a beloved feature but in this game.. It feels so uncomfortable moving with the cycle, I sometimes even prefer walking.
    12. Standards: A 2021 game should adapt the standards from the latest games (Sword 2019). The BDSP-standard isnt nearly as good as Sword/Shield. Many items, many attack moves, renewable TMs, dynamax, new pokemon, old moves without heart scales, more customization,max Raids or ranked battle stadium. None of the mentioned were adapted into this game -> BIG Downgrade for 2021 pokemon standards!
    13. Price: Dia/pearl/Platinum: 40$ and Copy/Paste BDSP with Bugs:60$ -> Bruh..
    Conclusion: It feels like GameFreak didnt want to do a Sinnoh remake but wanted to milk some money by releasing the highly demanded Sinnoh remake. The fact that, they hired a 3rd party company who never developed a major game, only supports this theory. Not forget to mention that, BDSP had a giant day one patch which was essential to enjoy the game. The fact that they released Legends Arceus almost 1-2 months after BDSP release also supports the theory, that they didnt care at all for this remake. Because of the release of Legends Arceus, the hiring of ILCA, the amount of glitches, the boring events, the exclusion of VGC, the 0 Innovation in this game and the fact that the majority of the game is copy & paste of a 2006 game (Dia/Pearl) which is worse than a 2008 Game (Platinum), makes this game the worst remake of all time in my opinion.

    GameFreak is lazy and The Pokemon Company are money-hungry, but the real problem lies with us - the consumer. We keep buying there products and we need to stop. I personally have not yet ordered the DLC for SV and probably won't - the first time I've missed a game since Gen 3 (2002). Imagine if all the big Poketubers did this as well. Some of them have millions of subscribers - imagine if they could organise a protest of some sort. It might give GF and TPCi the wake-up call they need. But the solution begins with us.

      I still don't see a realistic way to stop the waves of people getting it as a gift and not knowing better though, and typically for younger kids who don't know better either.
      This isn't to be a debbie downer, and my point isn't really "and therefore, we shouldn't even try". My point is more like "realistically, we'll probably also need to think of something else in conjunction with this"
      Especially because nothing that approximates the niche is really the same. This isn't always bad, but it's pretty much why I always stick to Pokemon fangames/hacks rather than other monster collectors. Every time I try breaking away completely, there's just sort of something missing to me.

    I just want people to stop blaming the developers and artists. I wish they'd start blaming the management and ceo's more. I hope you address this some? because it's getting annoying seeing people blame the developers and claiming they're they lazy ones.

    Hmm... While we can't be sure if it's 100% true, it does raise a few questions in the end. Namely, I've been thinking... Why they picked ILCA to do the Gen 4 remake for BDSP? Was there any other company who could do it? I'm curious to know a bit more about it somehow.

      ILCA helped making the HOME Switch app I think hence why they probably thought the connection is the easiest to go to.
