I have this lens an it is fabulous. I am using it on the SL3 now and it is unbelievable. Big and heavy yes but worth it.

The lens is gigantic.. but the result are totally worth the weight!

You nailed it. I just got a great deal on a nice used one, and first impression was “too big, too heavy!” But, I did a portrait shoot with it, and I was stunned. Combined with the SL2, this lens has the most beautiful rendering I’ve ever seen. I’ll never part with it. 📷😍

Thanks for the wonderful comment. It's an amazing lens and I was stunned by it's quality, but man it's massive!!

You said that this lens was heavy and to make the point you repeated this another 99 times. Perhaps you could have talked a little more about the lens itself. I have this and it is a very special lens.

Good demo of why I stopped using my Nikon D810 with big lenses and went the Leica M route! Would be interesting to see comparative shots vs an M10 with the M equivalent lens. Ok I suppose if you do high speed and reactive work like sports. Seems a big unnecessary lump for landscape or Street work. Nor for me, that’s for sure.

Yes, might have to do a comparison down the line, I couldn't believe how massive it was for a 50mm... Personally I'd go with the Summicron-SL, so much smaller and lightweight!!

Will be an interesting comparison, especially for practical use. Price-wise for the full kit probably little difference and also results wise. I will admit the SL/SL2 are better for critical focussing at F1.4 with close work like pro portrait work, rangefinders are not best for that. For what I do, give me an M any day.

Yes, each has its pros and cons, if I was still doing sports etc I'd choose the SL system, but for what I do now, a little bit of everything - mostly street and life the M system is perfect!

I don’t understand why people buy the big kit when all they do general stuff. Pretty much all the mirrorless brands have huge lenses, even the smaller bodies can have lenses way bigger than the body! Doesn’t make sense to me.

That's the biggest 50mm lens I've ever seen. In fact it's bigger than any 2 50mm lenses put together.

I know! I thought the weight in the box was the camera, most of it was just from this lens alone!!

    The Apo is better

I used the 28 APO and that was fantastic and so much smaller, who h I think suited the SL better
