Our stories occur somewhere, and designing that somewhere can be just as interesting as designing a character. Rather than just needing to facilitate the story, here’s how Tomm Moore uses his background design to impart a subtext into his stories.

They're exceptionally well regarded in animation circles and in Ireland, and I'm glad to see there's been a rise in popularity for 2D cinema of later, especially in the Box Office. Movies like Liu Jian's Have a Nice Day, Nick Park's Early Man and Renner and Imbert's Le Grand Méchant Renard are performing well, and deservedly so!

Holy mother of... I am so close to speechless over this amazing video!
While I am highly appreciative of richly detailed, realistic backgrounds, this video really communicates why I adore animation so much more than the realism of live-action in general: By submitting absolutely to the actual forms of the world around you, I think you truly do relinquish the endless possibilities for infusing every inch of what you display with deliberate design, style and symbolism.

I remember when i was a lil kid in primary school and tom moore brought song of the sea into our school and we got to watch it before it was released, 99% of the movie at the time was storyboards and I have no clue why they made a class full of kids with 0 attention span watch it but the first part we got to see that was fully animated, fully colored, was the scene with bronagh- the entire classroom gasped in astonishment because it was simply beautiful...
All the color, attention to detail, just EVERYTHING, even as a kid i knew this was an incredible feat to create and animate. Whenever I think back on the movie I still vividly remember the colors used in the scene, the rocks, the water, the way the white hair sprawled out across the cave, even if i dont remember what exactly happens in it.
When I was scrolling the internet a few years after I had left that school, I found song of the sea online and i purchased it and watched it and WOW. Its definitely one of my most favorite films ever.
It is so hard to convey how beautiful I think it is especially considering how I got to watch it turn from this unfinished, storyboard animatic to this fully fledged movie with hours upon hours of work and love clearly poured into it, and I'm glad youtubers are picking up on it and making videos and reviewing it- i hope it gains more recognition in the coming years, as it really truly deserves it and as an irish person i can proudly say we have some amazing talent here

I saw the secret of Kells when I was little, and it's influenced the worlds that I imagine in my head greatly. For the longest time, I've had images from that film engrained in my mind, and I haven't been able to remember what they were from, or if they were even from a movie at all. The wolf girl's large unblinking eyes staring directly at the audience; giving both an uneasy/chilling, yet comforting feeling all at once. A boy with red hair wandering through the forest. The sense of wonder and mystery that every frame exudes. I thought maybe I just dreamt the whole thing up 😂. Of course, I prefer a less abstract look for the worlds I come up with, but that same sense of magic and wonder, giving a light hearted tone through color and music rather than humor, and using the background as a fundamental aspect of the story remains stitched in all my stories. Thank you for reminding me of this wonderful gem of a movie.

I have spent a lot of time learning to draw faces because I love these characters that I'm spending so much time with but I'm finding it very difficult to learn backgrounds and landscapes. This is something of a failure of mine because if this story is to do well the world needs to feel like it's own world and time, so thank you, this has helped.

The thief and the cobbler is one of my favorite "underground" films. It seems to be a basic Aladdin rip-off, (released about the same time?!? Not sure) but the art style is so unique. And some of the songs are quite catchy. Also, cannot fault a film for using Vincent Price as a voice actor!

"Nor to pay attention to false stories and to genealogies. Such things end up in nothing useful but merely give rise to speculations rather than providing anything from God in connection with faith."(1 Timothy 1:4) "There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, anyone practicing magic, anyone who looks for omens, a sorcerer, anyone binding others with a spell, anyone who consults a spirit medium or a fortune-teller, or anyone who inquires of the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable practices Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you".( Deuteronomy 18:10-12) These two bible principles are the only things that I have to say about Tomm Moore.
