Awwww, Boo is so gentle with him. I personally do not believe in the sale of monkeys as I think they should remain in their own habitat but, if these monkeys were saved from abuse, then they landed in a loving home and I am grateful for that.
It is so heartwarming to see how kind Boo is with him... he has no impulse to grab or play rough. In fact, if Boo was female I would immediately attribute this to maternal instincts.

Not sure how I missed this one! Boo has such a sweet soul. How any person can think that humans are any better or more important than animals because we are "intelligent" is something I cannot fathom. Boo is more intelligent and better natured than most people I have met in my life. Thank you for sharing him through these videos. He is a sincerely beautiful animal, and he makes my days better just because I have discovered them. Please also thank Boo by giving him a hug or a kiss....or the capuchin version of a loving gesture from me, and all of us whose days he brightens!

hackhenk Keep in mind that you are also talking specifically about macaques in your comment. Some macaque actions can be different from other types of primates. Chimpanzees may also use the same gesture in a different way. Generally lip smacking is considered or used as a non threat gesture (like when meeting the little one in the video), or as a sign of submission. So technically +over obsessed hamilton fangirl wasn't too far off. Her explanation was just generalized. It doesn't have anything to do with hunger though, like another commenter mentioned. Here is a good article describing the action in a few different species and what it means, as well as a study of the action in a group of wild chimps and how it relates to grooming.

Capuchins swap spit as a sign of affection (that's why you've seen Boo stick his tongue out at people he knows in the past). He's trying to get down to the baby's level to give him that friendship sign. Baby's not old enough or "monkey socialized" enough to get it yet.

Wish I could have one here in Massachusetts but they're so illegal..I heard they can't be house trained though, which seems odd to me.
There illegal because they carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans like Ebola, West Nile and others. True they cannot be house broken and they are a pain to deal with. They bite and scratch and crap everywhere. If you let them off their lease they are gone down the road never to be seen again because they do not like being in captivity. Also owners of monkeys need mental help because they dress them up like children and treat them like they are their children.

That was definitely an "Awww" moment. Boo was so curious about the little one but he was cautious because the baby was nervous and verbally expressing its desire to be left alone. For primates, grooming is the universal sign of friendship and communicating non-aggression which is exactly what Boo did to help the baby feel more at ease. What's the new little fella's name? I bet he's brought back so many memories of Boo when you first adopted him. Very sweet video. ☮

This guy obviously loves his babies. And they weren't snatched from their mother idiots. They were either abandoned or orphaned so do research and ask someone before judging. He takes good care of them. So what's to complain about.
Most are bred to sell. The babies are snatched from the mother after a few days and sold for a couple thousand dollars. Smart owners have the males neutered and defanged very young. Most can't even be toilet trained so they have to wear diapers their whole life. Most people can't deal with them when they mature so they dispose of them one way or another. I'm sure a lot of them get strangled.
Is it any different from any pets? People seem very inspired to call this animal abuse but will awwwe at anyone's new pet dog or cat.

Monkey breeding and poaching is big time money. they are hunted, the mother killed and baby ripped from the dead mother traumatized at two -yhree days old. Then the breeders. these babies are ripped from the mother who's drugged, baby traumatized and so is the mother when she wakes up just to be bread again. research lady.These people with money have no conscience buying them either way. Monkeys belong living their lives out with their families as same as humans. Monkeys live in troops of families that love,sleep, groom each other,play and swim together and fight. you can even see the mothers huddled together chit charing with babies attached to them in the middle and the older youngsters playing behind them and in the trees. They forage together go to the river together to swim and move on together with the males watching. they have their fights and problems like humans. No reason to take them from their lives together. Not some selfish human making them live with them and their rules and ways. animals have rights.leave them alone. The good humans are the ones fighting for their rights and helping them back to their own kind from accidents,selfish people,etc.

I have a capuchin named Sam and I've had him since he was a tiny baby and he is now 4 almost 5. he's not our pet! he's more like one of our children. so for the people who thank its so wrong to take A monkey from its mother to have As a pet, well its no different then taking a puppy or kitten away to have as a pet. if you don't like it then its quite simple, just don't get one! however they are amazing to have. your monkey boo is precious by the way

Actually, you're not that far off. The lip-smacking is usually monkey for "I'm not going to hurt you, I'm friendly." It's not really trying to sooth the baby so much as to let the baby know it's safe with him. Since monkeys don't have the complex vocal cords that we do, they will often use their bodies to communicate; you'll see it with other non-human primates as well.

The only way to get a baby monkey in the US is from a breeder -- the US government made it illegal in 1975 to "import" wild monkeys, so any pet monkey you see is a descendant of the pre-1975 breeding stock. This baby's mom, a breeder monkey, will spend 20 years of her life pumping out new babies every 7 months, and every one of them will be taken away from her to be "pets" in someone's house. If anyone in the US says they "rescued" a baby monkey they are lying.
