The band stated the following about the EP
During the Death Magnetic album sessions in 2007 and 2008, we originally recorded 14 songs. When it came time to pick the songs for the final album, we decided on 10 songs that you've all come to know over the last three years... Some of you may have heard bits and pieces of those other songs on 'Mission Metallica' (remember 'Mission Metallica'?!) or heard rumors about them during the recording process, and wondered, 'What ever happened to those other four songs???.' We kept them in the vault and decided to pull them just for this special celebration, so here are the four leftover tracks from the Death Magnetic sessions. They are ROUGH mixes, unfinished to their original degree of mixing from March '08. These four songs were released as a gift to our closest fans, the members of our Fan Club, to enjoy. Now they're being made available to you.

I think this is the most important thing they should have brought up in the video. These are good songs but they are unfinished, Metallica considers them to be rough mixes and not finished products.

Fun fact: The Flamingo main riff is from a song Metallica was writing in 2001 called Shadows of the Cross. You can find it on CZcams. It has an Enter Sandman-type build-up into the main groove. They used it for the demo for Flamingo, and then ultimately changed it and sped it up for All Nightmare Long!

      @deadwaitsoldiers Před 11 měsíci +1

I don't know which riff your specifically referring to, but on Making Magnetic, it shows Rob playing flamenco guitar and how that inspired the chorus riff... pretty sure it's the chorus riff.😂

I'm not sure if the link will work but check this song out. It was written during their time at the Presidio. There's a build up in the intro and then you'll recognize the main riff! It's slower than Flamingo but it's still the same riff. Rob did indeed write riffs that were used around the riff they took from Shadows of the Cross though.

A contributing fact: Patrick was making a reference that Just A Bullet Away was the first new material that Metallica debuted in 2006. He's not wrong that Metallica started teasing new material and songs (they were two) but those references are not found in Beyong Magnetic.
The first song they debuted, I think around June 2006, was with "The New Song (Death Is Not The End)". You can find pieces of that song in The End Of The Line and All Nightmare Long (actually the intro is a copy paste section for The End Of The Line and the solo and the outro riff before the last chorus is exactly also from All Nightmare Long).
The second song "The Other New Song (Vulturous)" is much more energetic and in my opinion the best of the two. But that material has never debuted on an official recording or demo. A shame because Metallica does reference this song in their band merch (there is a logo that is called Vulturous).

I got into Metallica heavily by the end of 2011. I had known some of their songs from childhood thanks to my father and half-brother before then, but my own exploration started back then. In December 2011 Metallica held four anniversary shows where they live-debuted all the four songs from Beyond Magnetic. I listened to the studio versions online, but given the fact that I’m from Russia - we didn’t have any streaming services back then. Couple months later, to my very sudden surprise I saw Beyond Magnetic in a local record shop. Instantly grabbed it. Hate Train grew on me momentarily, I still like it a lot. Later that year, in spring and summer 2012 they played Hell and Back and it also caused a big interest. This was basically the first new Metallica music I got to witness being a fan already, so it will always hold a special place in my mind and in my heart even if I don’t listen to it a lot these days. Anyway, the point of me writing it all is just to say thank you for bringing all these memories up - and same for all other albums of Metallica (and DM’s Memento Mori). Good luck with all else and looking forward to Hardwired, S&M, Garage Inc. and stuff outside Metallica - maybe bands like Hurts or something from AiC apart from popular stuff like Dirt or Live Spirits by Depeche. All the best!

I don't know why I thought of this 30 seconds after I woke up today, but I think the long pause in the middle of "Just a Bullet Away" is meant to emphasize the silence after James says, "Stop the voices in my head!" Of course this leads into a long instrumental section. The voices are finally gone! All is calm for a moment, represented by that first clean solo. But eventually the voice comes knocking and barging back in. Like a lot of Metallica songs, they try to tell a story with the music, not just words.

Metallica began playing "The New Song," then "Vulturous" a couple of years before DM's release.
I wouldn't swear to it, but I don't believe any parts of "Vulturous" made it to the album.

I have to defend Lars here: I know i know, he's not considered a great drummer. The thing i like most about Lars Ulrich's drumming is that in many of Metallica's songs it fits so good with what the rest of the instruments are playing. That is a quality that seems often overlooked and not found in many metal bands in my opinion.
(I'm a drummer myself and as kid i tried to imitate Lars Ulrich's drumming, bought his sticks and so on^^)

We need a name for the face that Chris on the left is making. That pained anguish look on some parts of these songs is hilarious. It’s like the opposite of stank face you get on a brutal riff.

I am here first and foremost, to apologize for my absence of the premier of this very video. I am, undoubtedly feeling guilt, remorse and self hatred for missing the premier. I, hereby, announce this mistake, WILL NOT happen again. And if it does happen, I am ready to face any penalties, or consequences you, Patrick, Present Chris, and Remote Chris, decide I should face. I am ashamed of my actions. And will live the rest of my life, knowing of the harm I caused in this world.

Gotta listen to the new song. They only played it in concerts before death magnetic. It’s called New Song. It was split up to create all nightmare long and The end of the Line. There is also a making of for every song on death magnetic that shows you how all the songs were crafted and changed. It’s really awesome. Someone put them all together back to back. Same thing with Hardwired.

Love Beyond Magnetic! These songs are awesome and would be even better with more polished sound. Btw when you get to Hardwired I think you should listen to the deluxe version where there are bonus some tracks including 3 covers and "Lords Of Summer" which was a single already released in 2014 but was rewritten better for the deluxe version.

I didn't see the poll before this video, but I'd love to see Iron Maiden and Megadeth Reactions! my favourite two bands, both have some of the most consistent (not perfect) discographies in metal.
However, you've got to realize that Dave Mustaine is a guitarist and song writer first and second. He was thrown into singing because they couldn't find a better singer (plus he wrote the lyrics. Despite the fact that his vocals aren't great, he writes his songs to match and fit to his vocals.
Also, y'all should check out Ahdy Kahiart he makes amazing remaster/ remixes of Metallica and other bands. Some of the best masters i've heard.

Regarding the demos- James usually writes & records the placeholder solos as well. Also, he hums gibberish for the "lyrics" in at least half of their demos. As in random sounds and syllables, not just half-baked lyrics lol. For example, the lyrics during the machine gun riff in One are WANNA NA NA, WANNA NA NA, WANNA NA NA NA NAAAAAA

When you do I Disappear, I suggest also reacting to the leaked version. That's what kicked off the whole Napster debacle, and its arrangement is different than the final release. Copies of when it aired on radio before release are still kicking around CZcams, and Metallica put it out officially just recently on a special vinyl. Can find that easily here by searching "Metallica: I Disappear (Leaked Napster Version) [Vinyl - 2021]"

Regarding the reviews of DM. You guys have to understand, after Jason leaving, James into rehab, St. Anger, and then radio silence for YEARS, people were RELIEVED that (a) it came out, and (b) sounded like actual Metallica for the first time since the early 90s. The discussion about loudness wars, Rush's Vapor Trails, Death Magnetic, etc. happened a bit later. But this was a "Oh gosh, Metallica is back, thank god, I thought they were gone for life.". Perspective is HUGE here.

the Just a bullet away riff is NO WAY the same or similar to frantic, I´ve heard it a million times and never ever have I thought of that. It´s an evil chromatic riff, frantic is "car go fast" riff. Both great of course. Actually the bullet riff is one of the most evil, omnious riff they´ve put out, a similar one that comes to mind is Dream no more. It´s got that sinister vibe, not just chuga chuga let´s go thrash metal.
