    Your content is absolutely brilliant and if you keep this up (of course, you ought to strike a balance between whatever you’ve got to do at uni and uploading videos on CZcams) you might make it big!
    Also, I can commiserate to some extent. I thought four subjects would’ve been easy for me to cope with but then again that illusion was shattered as soon as I started Year 13.
    There’s an massive disparity between whatever you learn at Year 12 and the stuff you’re supposed to learn once you get to Year 13. These couple of years were incredibly tough. Of course, the coronavirus did nothing to remedy that.
    Still, I wouldn’t exactly call it an utter disappointment as I managed to get the results I’ve always wanted.

    Hi such an insightful video jaden:) I’m currently in yr 11 and want to pursue dentistry and I’ve picked my a-levels biology chemistry psychology and criminology (the last 2 are back ups) I didn’t pick physics or maths because I hate it and now Idk if it will affect my future when applying to dentistry 😬

      Hi! Nice to see another future dentist! Those are some very interesting choices! From my experiences, you shouldn't have any problems in terms of applications for dentistry with those choices but every university will want different things. The biology and chemistry are definitely really important as I'm sure you know. Physics and maths are not necessary as universities often look for 1-2 sciences so you should be good! Goodluck!

      @@JadenYee hii tysm for replying,would you mind possibly giving me advice if I should do a 4th A level for y12?
      Ikt that you're probably really busy in dental school so I'll keep it really short:
      I want to pursue economics,business studies or finance at a top university
      which option seems better?
      Option 1: A level maths,further maths and economics + EPQ + more emphasis on extracurriculars.
      Pros:
      Only focus on relevant subjects that I am interested in?
      More time to focus on supercurriculars
      Cons:
      Possibly narrow for competetive universities
      Option 2: A level maths,further maths and economics + AS level psychology + EPQ + fewer extracurriculars
      pros:
      Broader range of subjects; arguably safer
      Almost equal to 4 A levels but significantly lesser workload (which means more focus on extracurriculars compared to if I took 4 A levels)
      cons:
      not that interesting
      uncertainity abt whether universities appreciate the AS level as conditional offers are only given on 4 complete A levels?
      lesser time on supercurriculars compared to if I took 3 A levels + EPQ
      the EPQ is mandatory in my schl
      Additional information: (read if possible but not vital...)
      Taking 8 IGCSEs in may/june, consistently score As and A*s in tests
      Took 2 IGCSEs and an scored A* in extended maths and an A in my second language
      Haven't taken psychology, but am expected to score an A* in econ,business studies and additional math(which is basically equal to AS level math)
      I am set on taking econ/business/finance; the 10 subjects have given me some insight on wht are my interests
      I can't take business studies as I'm already taking economics - if taken together they're considered one subject
      I prefer to rather take extra work than to regret not doing tht. so I'd happily take AS psych if I should

    Hi, i hope you’ll be able to reply to this since it’s an old video and my comment is very long 😬
    Just to let you know, i have found almost all your videos extremely helpful recently so thank you very much!
    I’ve just started year 12 and intend to do an epq along with biology, chemistry and psychology, also hoping to study dentistry at uni
    My question is that if i do struggle with handling the epq and decide to drop it, would my chances of getting into dentistry alter in any way?
    I will also be volunteering, doing work experience and trying my best to participate in extra curricular activities
    My next question is about the interviews that take place.
    I struggle with anxiety and don’t think i’ll be able to comfortably attend the interviews.
    Do all applicants go through interviews or can we be accepted straight away?
    What does this depend on?

    • @JadenYee
      @JadenYee  Pƙed rokem

      Thank you for you question, I am still reading them all!
      No, every uni I know doesn't really weigh an EPQ very heavily at all. Do it if it interests you and if you are capable of doing well in your subjects at the moment. I don't think it would alter your chances if I am honest but the decision is always yours and not everyone will say the same. Check uni websites to see if they prefer an EPQ or not because they will all be different!
      Anxiety is very common especially for interviews.
      For dentistry as far as I know, every uni will make you take an interview, I'll make a video about interviews in the future. Interviews just take a lot of practice and from this you will gain confidence and it is your chance to really show the interviewers why you should get the place there. Dentistry is a career which requires you to talk to a lot of different people so this is good development, try to be positive and you'll get more comfortable the more you practice!
      You need to do the UCAT or BMAT and have met the required GCSEs or A-levels, and give a good personal statement to get an interview in general.
      Hope this has helped.

      I think if you do an EPQ, you would still need to do work experience and wider reading but this really depends on the course you want to apply to for uni. I would check different uni websites first to see which they value. If you had to choose between them, for courses like dentistry + medicine, I would say that work experience + wider reading is better.

    Hey there, I really appreciate you posting this insightful video. I chose these A levels- biology, chemistry and maths. Do you think someone doing 4 A-levels will have a much greater advantage over me when applying for dentistry. Furthermore, if I do take a 4th subject and drop it after year 12 will I still have an advantage over someone who took three a levels from the beginning to year 13. It would be immensely beneficial to me and many other people if you also post videos specific to how you got into dentistry and the steps you took ( volunteering, work experience, extra curricular activities etc)

    • @JadenYee
      @JadenYee  Pƙed 2 lety +8

      Thanks for your comment! No, I don't think adding a 4th A level will create a much bigger advantage if any advantage at all. Most uni's state that they only require 3 subjects so adding a 4th might not increase your chances, although I don't know for sure.
      If you drop your 4th after Yr12 you will get a predicted grade for that choice but I don't know if it will benefit your application much as every university will be different in deciding that. You won't have a 4th Alevel to fall back onto though which is a con.
      I will be doing videos on these topics in the future!

      Unfortunately, the vast majority of Computer Science courses at a Uni require a qualification in maths to apply - KCL didn't previously, but added it this year, and I believe that QMUL still doesn't. You'd either need to find a Uni that doesn't require it (tends to be less prestigious/lower down in the rankings) or try to pick up a Maths A-Level in a gap year or as part of a fast-track course.

    Do you think one year is enough to prep for A levels? I’m rushed for time due to some irl circumstances, and I was hoping to hear from someone like you. Grats for your results btw! Love your video

      Thank you so much! I think it will be tough to prepare in a year for A-levels but it is definitely possible. You will just need to work hard and focus on specific areas which you need to improve. Goodluck!

      BUT - though I've given you a ton of sites to look at, researching and reading online for hours and hours is going to drain and tire you out. So do a little (honestly, max at 2hrs I'd say. But if you want to go on, go on. Just don't drain yourself to the point where next time you need to research about uni it will make you think ugh), then make sure you talk to a teacher (cos they've all gone through uni, to be teaching you A level), or your head of year

    • @JadenYee
      @JadenYee  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      Hmm, to try and simplify it:
      Year 12: You have exams throughout the whole year with end of year exams which would probably mostly determine your predicted grades for your actual A-levels in Yr13. These predicted grades will be the same grades you use to apply to university through the UCAS website.
      Year 13: You write your personal statement and apply to different universities in the hopes they give you either an interview offer or an actual offer with required grades (unless it is unconditional). You then take A-levels near the end of the year to try and attain the grades on your top 2 chosen offers.

      @JadenYee  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      I don't know all the little details of applying to a course in engineering but I know it does require a lot of maths! If you enjoy further maths then I would keep it because it may come in very handy. I do not think it is a necessity though since when looking at a high level uni like Cambridge:www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/courses/engineering
      It looks like they only require maths + physics but this obviously depends on what you enjoy and what specific engineering course you want to apply for. There are many factors so I would talk to teachers to help guide you!
