  • How is the US going to reach net zero by 2050? That's the question Asmeret Asefaw Berhe, director of the Office of Science for the US Department of Energy, is urgently trying to answer. She shares the thinking behind what her team is calling "Energy Earthshots" - projects designed to accelerate innovation in the fight against climate change, from nature-based solutions in the soil to the creation of brand-new technologies - and calls for innovative, equitable policies backed by science.
Countdown is TED's global initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. The goal: to build a better future by cutting greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030, in the race to a zero-carbon world. Get involved at countdown.ted....

Can we get a TED Talk that details an actionable plan for going after greedy fossil fuel corporations that are almost entirely responsible for ruining the planet? That would be a good start. The cool future tech can happen at the same time as a failsafe measure, but we're missing the forest for the trees here in the meantime by letting those companies run roughshod instead of nationalizing fossil fuels to ramp down usage quickly and imposing severe criminal penalties for any company that violates universally agreed upon green standards determined by an independent scientific oversight body

The scientific consensus on anthropogenic (human-caused) climate change is based on extensive research and evidence. Here are some key points that support this conclusion:
Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Human activities, primarily the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) and deforestation, have significantly increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2).
Rising Temperatures: Global average temperatures have been consistently rising over the past century. This is confirmed by temperature records, satellite data, and extensive climate modeling. This warming is consistent with the expected effects of increased greenhouse gas concentrations.
Sea Level Rise: The melting of glaciers and the thermal expansion of seawater due to higher temperatures have led to rising sea levels. This is a direct consequence of global warming.
Ocean Acidification: Increased CO2 levels in the atmosphere lead to the absorption of more CO2 by the oceans, causing ocean acidification. This has a detrimental impact on marine ecosystems.
Extreme Weather Events: There is a growing body of evidence linking the increase in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events (such as hurricanes, droughts, and heatwaves) to anthropogenic climate change.
Consensus Among Scientists: The overwhelming majority of climate scientists agree that human activities are a primary driver of climate change. This consensus is supported by organizations such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Attribution Studies: Climate scientists use sophisticated methods to attribute observed climate changes to specific causes. These studies consistently show that human activities are the primary driver of recent global warming.
In summary, the scientific evidence for anthropogenic climate change is based on a combination of observational data, physical principles, and climate models. It's important to note that the scientific consensus on this issue is robust and supported by research from around the world.

      @lmench13 Před 10 měsíci

Well according the the CO2 Coalition and many other scientific communities, world temperatures have fluctuated/changed consistently over the last 10,000 years and guess what, they always will.
In the last 100 years, world tmps have increased only 0.8-1 degree depending upon which study you review AND at our current world temps, we are LOWER than 2000, 4000, 6000, 8000, &10,000 years ago. It's not until approximately 10,200 years ago that our world's temps were CONSISTENTLY lower than they are now.
If you are looking at a close proximity of time to create your "crisis", you are flawed in your perspective without looking at the big picture.

@@TheMercilessEyeikr! Maybe instead of coming down on your neighbors you should contact your government and ask them to stop trying to modify the weather to suit their agenda and allow nature to take it's course. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think there is hope too. I dont think it is as bad as we have been lead to believe but changing our ways again definitely is not going to hurt.
Just want to put this here as a reminder :)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
    Phillippians 4:6-7

"i dont think it as bad as we been lead to believe" - Its far worse. Big corporations and academy always go into the opposite direction of fear, trying to make the bad to look better.

With current birth rates and death rates by the time it would actually start to become a crisis (if world trends and conditions continue) the world population would be in the millions, not in the billions anymore basically removing so much carbon dioxide that we'd be at risk of dropping below the low number required to sustain plant life.
