I really can't understand why Sonny Emory is so underrated, he should be on the biggest drum festivals between the giants. He really have everything, taste, technique and an awesome pocket, God bless him.
Everytime i look a video about a drummers on CZcams, someone says he is the best drummer in the world . Are you all wrong or is there one of you who know Who is the really best ?

I love watching Sonny's unorthodox stick techniques. He will carry the ride groove at times with his left hand, change direction to his right and I'm convinced he could easily sit down at a left-hand setup and blend masterfully. Love his blazing overhand style and yet so restrained. Just humbling to watch.
Sony Emory used to play drums for the late Johnny "Guitar" Watson back in the '70's. I've always loved his style of play. But I never knew he was this excellent until I heard him playing with EWF. I never knew he was this talented.
I saw him coming to Malaysia for a drum clinic. I even got his signature Zildjian drum sticks and his autograph (on my sticks as well. Thanks Sonny.......my favourite drum hero. Oh I did embarrass him in the drum clinic by telling him that I caught him on tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. And he said "Oh really? Do I look different?"😅😅😅 RIP Maurice White 1941-2015.
To me it's not about who's best, I believe it's what you bring to the table. Opinions don't really work, as there are too many greats in the world and I respect them all equally for there contributions and dedication 🙏🏼

He has very balanced control of the stick. You can see it when he simply holds a stick or changes grip. I know exactly what you mean.
