    Although this is different than Traxxas suggests as far as traction & slipper clutch set up goes, living in Michigan & running in the snow with paddle tires is so much fun...Wouldn't I want to tighten slipper clutch for snow? You need the wheel spin & power to the tires NOW, you're not looking for traction. Is this thinking correct?
    Additionally something to consider if having slipper clutch issues, I just encountered this myself & I'm almost certain the problem started a yr ago...Here goes (keep in mind I maintain my RC's every time I run them...complete clean);
    My neighbors 10 yr old son wanted to drive my slash ultimate 4x4, I told him he had to be very careful & handed him the remote. Before I could set the ESC to training mode I was distracted by his dad coming outside & talking to me. Next thing I realize is the car going wide open up the driveway & by the time I turned to see it & say anything...BAM!!! Complete stop right under front tire of dads parked truck. Cracked chassis, broken steering servo, drive shaft all kinds of bent up & other misc. damage.
    When I swapped out chassis I of course looked everything over closely, everything with slipper, pinion & differential all spun smoothly & seemed fine. After I put it back together & it was reassembled correctly, it just never had the same "pop" it had before. It wasn't quite as fast & didn't seem as quick off the start. No weird noises. Mesh was fine. I would adjust the slipper a little here & there, nothing would get it running like it did before, it ran maybe 85% of what it did before the accident. I ran it a couple of times in the snow last winter, maybe 2/3 batteries worth & didn't have a chance to run it at all this yr, until a week ago with a buddy that has the same RC. After about 10 minutes it wouldn't hardly move & it wouldn't allow me to tighten slipper at all.
    Took it home & took the rear apart, all the way down to the differential. Slipper pads looked brand new & everything seemed fine. I finally noticed the bearing in the Spur Gear wasn't all there, the center part that houses the ball bearings was missing & that's when I noticed shrapnel here & there. So I cleaned everything up, removed the outer ring of bearing that was still housed in the Spur Gear, went to Hobby shop & purchased new bearing. Got home, put it back together & adjusted the slipper 3/4 turns out before re-assembly, threw a battery in it & wouldn't hardly move. Slipper was slipping bad & you could smell the pads like when someone smokes a clutch on a real car. I was dumbfounded & of course pissed! I knew I put everything back together correctly. So there I am taking the slipper back out...tightening & loosening the spring nut in my hand didn't seem to be compressing the pads together like it should've...again I'm pissed and confused, it should've worked just fine! When I was about to throw it through the wall, I removed the spring & nut, pulling it back apart & that's when I noticed the problem that I didn't catch earlier. The very center of exploded bearing was between pads & pressure plate not allowing them to compress together.
    I removed it, adjusted it to 3/4 turns out again, put it back together & she's a flying again!!
    Moral of the story...when neighbor crashed it & I put back on a new chassis, I think the force of the crash had driven the slipper too hard into that bearing & started the breakdown & I didn't know to look at that when examining the damage. It's the little small things we need to pay the most attention to, details, the Devil is in the details.
    Sorry for the long story, but had I read something like this while researching my problem, it would've been a huge help and saved me alot of time. If this helps one person, great. If not & you want to tell me to gth...that's cool too. Either way, God Bless...Drive Fast & Take Chances!

      If only I saw this comment earlier, pretty much the exact same thing happened to me but I had a traxxas rustler 4x4 VXL, the remote just cut out with me and I was going 78kph with the and yes I know the speed because I have the complete TQI telemetry system installed so I can see the current exact speed, rpm, power/voltage and temperature, but anyway it just completely cut out when I was going at that speed and flew right into a drain, it was a real struggle to get out because it was really wedged in there with the upgraded suspension making it more difficult to take out, there were broken parts everywhere down the drain on the road and on the grass of the owners place, got everything out and all the upgrades I’ve done to it you could quite literally say was money down the drain, but it costed me a bomb, hundreds of dollars so many parts replaced, suspension, cracked wheels, drive shaft, chassis, the whole servo system, the esc turned on and was flashing but didn’t do anything else, the motor had cut wired and it all fell completely apart, 3 out of 4 suspension arms, the cover obviously, front bumper, steering block, just so many parts and probably way more but that’s all the parts I ordered in just the first first receipt and is the only receipt I can find at the moment, yet I have no clue how but the 3s lipo battery I was using I really have absolutely no clue but it still worked after, yet replaced everything spend soooo many hours on it and I had the same problem as you, I tried all kinds of different lipo batteries and even went to nimh but there so weak I found out, so I ended up just going to use it for parts and bought a new one, kinda wish I bought an Xmaxx or a Maxx because I really wanted to but thought if I crash my new one I could use the parts, long story short I just saw your comment and I got soooo scared because I’ve spent so much extra money on it and yet I had the same issue as you, but I now have 2 working traxxas rustlers 4x4 VXL’s with a lot of extra parts, the telemetry was still perfectly fine so I still use that but yeah, you don’t know how much you helped me though, the simplest little thing I should of checked more carefully and closely, thank you so much though I got it working again, I might let my brother use it and race it with me when we’re at the rc track now instead of him using his small slash, I said it a lot already but I really mean it, thank you so much, you’ve helped me heaps getting it working again

    For the HCG 4x4 models there should be an access hatch under the chassis to adjust the slipper. Having to remove the whole back end of the truck and then "guess" at your adjustment is really poor engineering on your part Traxxas. I know it's only four screws but it still makes a simple adjustment more complicated and time consuming then it needs to be.

      @@jakeletourneau4062 You may want to adjust it if you're switching from a mellow 2s to a powerful 3s, also depending on the surface you're driving on. Example: If I take mine to the indoor carpet track, we can only run 2s there & the carpet has excellent traction, so you would want to loosen it a bit for better driving. Then say tomorrow you go out bashing on dirt, you'll want to tighten it a bit depending on your battery. You can hear the difference between too loose & too tight. It's not a dramatic change though, maybe a half turn here or there. Hope this helps you.

      So I have been adjusting them this way for almost 10 years. Get it to where I barely can’t slip em by hand.
      If it’s too tight your car will accelerate without slip. Too loose and car won’t accelerate quickly just slip and motor revs very high.
      I’ll try the 1/2 3/4 backed off from full tight.
