February 25th, 2012. Former IBF Light Welterweight & WBC Light Welterweight Champion Devon Alexander “The Great” and former WBA Light Welterweight Champion Marcos Maidana aka “El Chino” collided in a 10 rounder for their Welterweight debuts.
Prefight records; Alexander 22(13)-1, Maidana 31(29)-2.
Entering the bout, the 28 year old Maidana (who was a 1.5-1 betting underdog) had wins against notable oppositions such as DeMarcus Corley, Erik Morales, Petr Petrov, Victor Cayo & Victor Ortiz while the 25 year old Alexander had top triumphs over the likes of Andriy Kotelnik, DeMarcus Corley, Juan Urango, Junior Witter & Lucas Matthysse.
It was an action packed but one sided affair for Alexander who outlanded and outworked the hard hitting Maidana to clearly win most if not every round.
In rounds 1 & 2, both fighters had their moments but Alexander was more accurate and showed a better defense.
In round 3, Alexander was cut over his right eye just like in his fights against Bradley, Matthysse & Kotelnik.
In round 6, Maidana was hurt with a right hook to the head and then with a left hand to the body which Alexander followed up with another straight left hand upstairs that appeared to have resulted in a knockdown. However, referee Steve Smoger ruled it a slip as Alexander might have have pushed Maidana down by leaning on him. With less than 30 seconds to go, Maidana managed to survive an incessant onslaught by Alexander.
In round 8, Maidana was hurt with a left hand downstairs and then rocked backward twice with fusillades of head shots.
In rounds 9 & 10, Alexander continued to tag Maidana effectively whilst evading most of his attacks.
After 30 minutes of action, Alexander was victorious via a lopsided UD10 with scores of 99-91 & 100-90 (2x).
Devon Alexander went on to become a 2 weight world champion in his next fight on October 20th 2012 with a UD12 victory over “The Knock-Out King” Randall Bailey to win the IBF Welterweight Championship.

I’ve never seen Maidana get totally dominated like this 😮
I sure do miss HBO Boxing! It was always the classiest organization out there. ❤️🐜
This was great learning experience for Maidana. Forced him to deal with handspeed, learn how to work his way around getting clinched, and realized he needed an elite coach at the elite level. That version of Alexander would give the top 147 issues today.
Maidana's first fight at welterweight. After this he hired Robert Garcia as his trainer
This is the best performance of Devon in his career. He was 100% that night.
And Maidana was better than many thought. This fight was competitive. And years later he’d give Floyd two tough matches
Absolutely!!!
@@LeadLeftLeon funny thing is Devin beat maidana better than Floyd did.
Devon Alexander could really fight before he got hooked on painkillers and his career went downhill. It’s too bad because he really had talent.
This was beautiful boxing.
“Junk is not a kick, it is a way of life.”

I was unaware of him he was really explosive it looked like..... he destroyed maidana
Had 3rd row seats at this fight. I thought Devon was going to stop Maidana in the later rounds. If they would have went 12rds it was possible. Still to this day this is the most dominant performance ever against Marcos🥊🥊💯
Mandanna try and smother fighters with his dirty boxing but it didn't work with this brother, Mandanna got his but whipped😅
Devon took Maidana apart. Surprised because in most of Maidana's fights, he always stood a chance. Not in this one
styles make fights, prime bradley would've beaten maidana even worse.
@TwistedTransistor88 that's interesting... what about Bradley and Devon's styles are kryptonite to Maidana's aggression? I am asking being a new boxing fan who might not know some nuances.
@@Soletar77 Styles make fights, but Maidana this was a bad period for Maidana. He simply was not at his best and he admitted it years later.
He then got a new team and went on an absolute tear. I say with full confidence that Devon could not have beaten the 2013 version of Maidana.
I think this was when he was with his old trainer , Maidana was gonna retire before he met Robert Garcia
Alexander reminds me a lot of Shane Mosley. Good hand speed. Power in both hands
Shane no Shane doesn't have power like that.
@@thedarksideoftheforce6658Shane's right hand. He does
Devon put it all together that night. He was even sharper when he got pissed from that cheap shot while he was bent over. Maidana showed heart too.
Maidana was always hurtable but never stopped. That’s heart
Devon looked very good here. Even Mayweather struggled with Maidana. Devon won handily.
Struggled when?
Rent free.
Floyd cake walked this guy, what are you talking about
@@dashielbradley8106 Devon, on this form, would beat prime Mayweather. No doubt.
@@thegee001ify 🤣🤣🤣🤣Devon in his prime couldn't beat Tim Bradley and you say he could beat Floyd in his prime🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣you dudes
Mayweather VS Alexander would've been an interesting fight.
not at all lol, floyd would have outboxed him easily
@@TheChattounetflomo spotted
@@357SWAGNUM_MAGA_X learn boxing, casual...
@@TheChattounet lmao
@@357SWAGNUM_MAGA_X you really think Devon would have a chance against floyd ? Lol
Very good 👊
That was a good fight!
Maidana even tried to get back to 140 after this luckluster perfomance
Marcos does his best work on the inside, Devon’s strategy was to clinch when Marcos got on the inside. So the referee could break it up and put it in the center of the ring. A good strategy as long as the referee allows it and don’t take points away from holding to much. Marcos only chance at winning is making it a rough and tough fight. Similar to what he did to Floyd the first fight they had.
👍 great fight
Cracking craziness out of maidana Alexander did
Good footwork
In this fight Alexander made Maidana look ordinary. This was before Maidana had Robert Garcia.
This is why people thought Broner would beat Maidana
Yep and then Alex Ariza showed up. 😮
Two game warriors for sure, the difference...those body shots from DA forced MM to defend too much territory and he couldn't
Not gone lie Marcos is a dam robot and im still wondering how the hell did Devon ever loose to Timothy Bradley.
This guy Devon also beated to Matthysse, another hard hitting Argentinian..
When was this fight?
Devon did his thing
Alexander never really reached or should i say played in his full potential in most of his fights.
I was not much of a Devin fan till this fight.I kinda view him as a pitty-pat boxer/point maker.Marcos is 1 tough fighter and Devin really out punched Marcos and beat him up.Gotta say,Devin should be a boxer/puncher more.I would like to see him fight The Problem.
Alexander could have been one of the greats
Maidana is a punching bag. No defense. He is just an upgrade of Brandon Rios.
*i remember watching this fight live when it happened and Da winning but i dont remember maidana getting whooped this bad lol, he didnt win a single round*
One wonders how far Maidana could have went had he continue after the Floyd fights
Never seen M M take a beating like that forgot all about that fight great performance by Devon
@@santiagoleyes5636 ENGLISH!!
He beat the Taco off his ass
🤜🤛
Devon was just too fast and skilled for maidana🥊😮💨
Maidana style was well developed later in his career
I you look closely, you can see Al Haymon in the front row
Prime example fighting and boxing two different lanes .........
Devon did way better than mayweather fighting maidana
All fighters have abad night, Maidana’s worst for sure
Sh**, maidana will hit while U" sitting in a wheelchair with both arms immobile, and broken legs.
He didnt let maidana use his left hand. He couldnt start his combos at all without his jab
Alexander just got starched by some bum yet again. A true quality fighter in his day. He needs to have his license pulled before he gets hurt.
☝️🇦🇷groso chino
In this fight, Marcos Maidana was in his first Welterweight fight, and it was before he hired Robert Garcia as his Trainer
Inexperience, bad style matchup and a peak Alexander made this tough for Maidana. Alexander never looked better than this.
That was a legit knockdown. The ref was wrong on that one.
IT WAS NOT,ALEXANDER PUSH MAIDANA DOWN AFTER THE PUNCH,WATCH AGAIN.
@@andreapost9374 no he didn’t if you punch someone and they go down that’s a knockdown toggaf…
Devon did well ... Maidana is not an easy opponent
Barking Box .
Madana berhadapan dengan kucing betina😂
Maidana es un peleador sucio 😮
Was this his last fight after Floyd ?
This was before floyd
Maidana would have given him fits 10 years ago. Alexander was too fast.
Yeah maidana would have gave Devon fits if he had started his usual head butting, kicking and crowding. Only reason Maidana is ok, is cause he can take a punch and throw a good punch. He's very competitive, but he'll never make hall of fame.
Watch the fanboys say Maidana won. Maidana got robbed😂
Devon was great in this figjht. He beat Maidana easier than any-one including Floyd Mayweather!
Damn so hard to watch, this definitely isn't the same Maidana that met Floyd, Alexander beat the dog poop out of Maidana.Just toyed with him, made him look like an amateur. Boxers are warriors but, some just don't know when to hang it up.
This was a year before floyd.
@@vamoneygroup Well, then style really does make fights because there's no snowball chance in hell he improve that much in 1 year, no human goes from a bum to pro in any sport discipline in one year.
@@Sir-Kay Alex Ariza is the best strength and conditioning coach in boxing. He worked with Pacman, Corrales, Khan, Linares etc. Ariza made him a monster.
@@vamoneygroup That's bs, no amount of training on earth makes you improve that much within a year logically speaking because, after the Floyd fight, he went on to be forgotten and Canelo that barely made any impact during that fight became somebody. Maidana took it personally because remember, every Mexican wanted to take away that 0 'cos Floyd wouldn't stop trolling latinos so, it was personal. Maidana might just be one of those fighter who can't handle fair trade, as we all know Floyd became a defensive/passive fighter after he broke his arm or as Mexicans would say, "boring fighter".
@@Sir-Kay you are completely unaware of supplements and their potency. So I'll attempt to inform you. Some supplements can be the difference between setting a record at the olympics or not even making it to the finals. There is no way to exaggeratr the benefit of certain types of supplements.
This shows you Maidana before using loaded gloves. He had above average power, but Devon was taking his shots when he beat Broner he had out of this world power. That’s why Floyd made him use real gloves lost a lot of that crazy power.?
boooo to you Maiadana dont expect that you are only only the best 😂😂😂😂😂
Did anyone noticed maidana doing the damn chicken at end of round 8? he was actually going without the referee holding him
Oh wow, I didn't even peep that until I seen your comment lol.
Alexander has some accuracy but no power.
To much holding !
Maidana at his worse
Maidana estuvo muy lento. Mala defensa. Poco movimiento de piernas. Pocas variantes de ataque. Faltó preparación
Age catches up with every fighter. This isn't the maidana who fought maywrather years ago. This version of Maidana looks unmotivated & nearing end of his boxing career
Nah this was his 1st fight at 147
This fight was before he fought Mayweather . Check the date's.
These guys arent even boxing fans. How do you not know this fight happened before broner
@@vamoneygroup
Lol! I know . They have a hopeless agenda.
I appreciate your comment.
Maidana cannot handle lefty boxer,
Devon Alexander would have beaten Mayweather, look how easy he defeated Maidana.
Nope Floyd would have won with ez
Maidana excellent fighter and skill ed than Devon.Devon is simple black meat
He beat the basic Maidana...the Robert Garcia Maidana woulda destroyed Devon
Devon was to fast for him
You mean Alex Ariza Maidana
WHAT KIND OF REFERREE IS THIS? HE SHOULD WARN ALEXANDER FOR REPEATED HUGGING,AND DEDUCTION OF POINT IS A MUST FOR NOT FOLLOWING THE WARN WHERE THE REFEREE DIDNT DO,IT IS VERY UNFAIR TO MAIDANA.
Devin vs. Braidly was one of the best fights I seen Devin got talent. He held titles at one point.
