I can help you guys with the materials: The name of the technique is : Faux wood. First apply first coat of bonding primer oil primer. Let it dry than sand it with 150 sanding paper. Second, apply the first coat of latex paint eggshell. If you want to look like oak, I will go to Bm and get eggshell paint in off white color ex: Linen white. Sand it light with 220 . Apply a thin coat of oil stain in this case to give it a brown grain look and use a tool that we called woodgraining tool. Faux wood tool, you can find it any art supplies stores. While it still wet, use a fine stain brush, chip brush or a brush that called ( badger brush) to give it more details on the wood, feathered some lines and break it some grains of the wood tool. that is showing at 1.47 minutes vid. Let it dry completely . Apply another coat of light color stain ( lighter than the grain stain) or mixed your own glazing using universal colorants or even acrylic paint as burnt sienna to get it more reddish or burnt umber to go more brownish . Final coat, apply varnish or poly water based or oil to get the finish look. I hope all these tips will help you guys.
Superb tutorial. I would like to ask for the materials used. Especially if it's paint or oil and what type precisely. I want to reproduce that at home. So I would like more details. Thank you already for the answer.
very good visual aid and project. Would be nice to know the type of products used or a simple pdf with some more info. The result you created is Astounding!!
At last- a quality craftsman at work. A change from all those Walt-Disney cartoon efforts we usually see from those who just want to sell advertising space
Nice work, would have been much better if the fella doing the work had accompany it with a dialogue of what materials etc; that he was using to do the project
I will gladly move along but it has nothing to do with my attitude you need to work on yours. Your work is inferior, people who finish real wood work really hard on getting a real even finish. Yours work is blotchy not even I'm sorry you can't take criticism that is what will keep you from learning or trying harder. I doubt if you've gotten any good decorator to accept your work. Don't be so defensive. I know it can be hard when glazes are trying to dry out and hitting something a second time can ruin what you have done. The art directors, camera men, and even directors that I have worked for would never let you get away with what you're doing. You would either try a little harder and even things out or you would hit the road.
Not even my work. If you'd bother taking the time to read you'd know that. I'll be sure to pass your opinion along...although I seriously doubt he'll care.
Sometimes the situation is not having an old door, but having say, a steel door with plastic trim. Generally people paint these types of doors a simple color, maybe a trim color on the trim, but often times not. This allows you to fake woodgrain on a non-wood surface.
Looks good but why would anyone but a metal door then pay an artist to do this? After it's all said and done it would cost them more after it's all finished! May as well buy a wood door lol
some of the panels you showed looked really good but the door over all was a little to spotty no art director I ever worked for wood except that overall look
