  • Matt Munisteri is a guitarist, singer, and songwriter based in New York City. A freewheeling and virtuosic guitarist on both acoustic and electric guitar-in music both modern and old-fashioned-he credits the early jazz plectrists of the 1920s and ’30s with providing the foundation for his technique and musical direction. Matt's courses on Peghead Nation include The Roots of Jazz Guitar, Swing Guitar Soloing, The Song According to Matt Munisteri, and Western Swing Guitar. In this video, Matt demonstrates the 1949 Gibson L-5N that he uses in his Western Swing Guitar course.

One of my favourite tunes of Hank Penny. I had the same guitar only it was a 54. Love your stuff and the jam with Jonathan Stout 👍🏼

I'll just go ahead and say something entirely clichéd -- that Matt could make a cigar box strung with rubber bands sound good. That L-5 is a beauty -- sonically and visually. I'm looking for a 25 1/2" archtop, myself. The shorter scale has its own charm, but I feel more comfortable with the typical Fender scale (not that Fenders are typical terrain for me). I couldn't recommend Matt's _Roots of Jazz Guitar_ course at PN more highly. "When I Grown Too Old To Dream" is lovely here.

Thank you for this video. I have a 1938 Gibson L5 "G.U.T." guitar that I inherited from my Great Uncle Tony with original natural finish and white pick guard. I wish you could play it.

Is there a handwritten dimension on the label such as "1 1/8"" ,or less for thin-top, indicating max bridge height?
