As someone who enjoys the game and the community, I figured it was time to lay down my thoughts on this subject. #eldenring #shadowoftheerdtree

Yes. Even Miyazaki said he uses spirit ashes. They are their for a reason. Some of these bosses give you barely any time to hit them so having a spirit ash to help you is a godsend.

There's like over a hundred of them now with the DLC and you're telling me we're not supposed to use them? There's hundreds of spells and we're not supposed to use magic or incantations either. It's been this way since the beginning though. A pretty good percentage of the souls community is very welcoming and fun, but there's this chunk that can be the most toxic in all of gaming.

@@grogueQIve noticed this across many different gaming communities. It's honestly getting tiresome and needs to be addressed as a whole. A very very loud minority of toxic gamers is bouncing from popular game to popular game, driving engagement down and pushing players from the game. D2, Helldivers2, WarFrame, and this game. I didnt deal with any of this when I was playing BB or any of the Dark Souls titles. Nobody called me a scrubb or trash, because of my perfect lost chikage or Lost HMLS, Or for using Dark Bead to cheese bosses for people.

There’s some misinformation here. For one thing “get gud” was never supposed to be a toxic phrase. People would actually say it to motivate people, as in anyone can get good at these games. Also, I don’t think most people really complain about people using spirit ashes, in fact most people in the souls community believe in beating the games however people want too. However one major complaint about the DLC has been that it seems very much balanced around Spirit ashes, which has ruined it for the people who don’t like to use them.

While I'm sure people are putting down other people for their use of spirit ashes the reality of the situation is either they're fucking with you or they're just stupid, most bosses in this game suck and it's been all but overtly stated by the devs that you're meant to rely on gimmicky shit to get over on the bosses. Take for example the Purifying Crystal Tear that exists as a crutch for a single boss, or the broken ass weapons such as the Reduvia, with an ash of war that I can proc bleed with instantaneously and, after a single run, can get to +10 in under an hour thirty like everybody else who's played the game or has Google. Enemies will walk into Night Comet repeatedly because it's invisible to all NPCs; I never use spirit ashes, my brother doesn't either, but he traded with every single boss in the game excessively while doing a few thousand damage with the Guts sword, and one of my favorite things to do on a faith build is stagger enemies endlessly with the Cipher Pata and Coded Sword. You can parry most bosses and shit on their head. Basically the game just sucks and if you're getting trolled by online people who're whining about how you should play the game the fact of the matter is they cheese the bosses like everybody else, because the game sucks, the bosses suck, and cheesing them is fun for that reason in specific. It's like Borderlands without all the talking.

I always saw "git gud" as kind of a rallying cry telling new players to lock in. I accept that that can be seen as toxic and it's definitely been phased out in recent years. The people complaining about using in game mechanics like summons and spirit ashes are the same folks who actually had malice when they said "git gud" from the previous era. They are a loud minority in my experience. Not using all the mechanics in the game makes it a challenge run. If its your first time playing these kind of games, I think its unrealistic to always expect to get by without using everything you've got. Bro I hate when people complain about the spirit ash system, hell I hate when people complain about the basic summoning system. It's in the game for a reason. Spirit ashes can't healing unless it's a separate consumable than the estus system. Summoning doubles the boss health. The game has ways to balance between the game and summoning. Especially in elden rings case, the bosses are tuned for them with their constant AOE moves to hit all around multiple times.
I've beaten every boss solo in the souls series, but calling spirit ashes cheating is asinine. OK, we'll using healing is cheating since the boss can't heal. Using bleed, frost, throwables, and stagger jump attacks is cheating as well by that logic. Be a real souls player then and use nothing but your fists or a broken straight sword at RL1 and no armor. Play the game as Miyazaki, the man who says he uses spirit summons, intended. What nonsense from egotistical basement dwellers. Sorry that beating a game without a mechanic is their only achievement to brag about smh

I'm one of those who dislike spirits. I believe, if you split the agrro of the boss, you don't see the actual boss, coz they can't adequately process two targets... But i can't understand why people complain about them being in the game, or players use them. It's something VAST majority of people does in previous games, they just can do it offline now :)
This is kinda how this games was designed. Casual players never actually engage with dueling a boss, they usually coop through the game. And experienced players help them, or invade them.
If EVERYONE would be super duper MLG player, there wouldn't be need in coop, and any invasion would be just gank squad every single time.

I started out with Dark Souls 2... The controls were straight-up ass. I had more fun playing the original Resident Evil in melee... Sluggish, crappy, tanky (in the sense that you have to move like a tank, with the aiming and movement being separate) controls.
I'm 46... I don't have all day to figure out a different control scheme for each game. I've been playing since the original Atari, so I'm a 40 year Veteran of gaming... If a game sucks, it sucks. I don't have to apologize to anyone... I had no hand in it's creation, so I accept none of the blame for the final product.
"Gatekeeping"... Eesh. Here's the deal with that term: People that use it often aren't even fans.
They're consumers of "Pop-Culture', not Nerds, who experienced the dark side of being non-conformists during the 70's and 80's (once Image came around, things changed), with girls not even treating them like they were men, dudes would beat you up in the bathrooms, swirlies, etc, nevermind the slurs that came your way for no reason.
Gatekeeping is when true fans (Y'know, the people who fianancially supported it for decades to the extent that people eventually decided to really invest in films and games?) stand up to normies and remind them why the quality they expect as the norm was established, to begin with.
They don't get to tell us how a game should be played, because they suck at it... They want Easy settings? Cool... Real Gamers don't have a problem with challenge being a key component in gaming... Losers do, though.
If that's what you want out of a game, Tetherball is free... All you need is a string, volleyball and a pole. Have at it... Just stop running your mouth regarding things you know nothing about and let us have some fun bludgeoning a Troll with a Maul in Elden Ring, for Christ's sake.

    This subject is so tired.
First off, I refuse to believe the casual community is really that up in arms about Soulsborne purists telling them that spirit summons are cheating for the 1000th time, we already went through this two years ago, so this is just shameless drama farming for likes and attention, so at least be honest about why you're doing the video, you can beat a dead horse for easy views and likes, but don't sit here and really pretend like a couple Soulsborne purists online saying spirit ashes are cheating is really impacting you in any conceivable way, least of which because this has been the community stance all the way back to DS1 when it was concluded that summoning co-op was cheating, so fi you're somehow shocked about it now, I don't know what to tell you.
The only reason this is getting more attention in Elden Ring, is because you can literally summon help on your own, without needing online co-op, so with the ease of making a boss fight a 2v1 or even 3v1 or 4v1 since you can summon two cooperators, a lot of bosses can be bum rushed, particularly with a strong, tanky summon. Hell there's videos now of people beating the last boss of the DLC with just a Tank summon that they kept healing.
So speaking as a soulsborne "purist" I guess, I would say two things can be true at the same time.
One, I don't care how other people play the game, if they had fun, good for them. It doesn't affect my playthrough in the slightest.
Two, yes I get to still think anyone who used summons, impenetrable thorns, or sat behind the fingerprint greatshield and poked Radahn to death with a rapier or spear while ignoring every mechanic, didn't actually beat the boss. If my personal opinion and the personal opinion of the soulsborne purists rustles your jimmies so much then just ignore it. Welcome to the internet, mute buttons are free.
