Living full-time in my rolling tiny home has been the best decision of my life. Off-Grid living offers a peace and connection to life that you just can't explain. When i first started van life i build a stealth camper van with the mindset the you had to live a stealth van life and i soon discovered that you can just live the city van life and boondock in the countryside and as long as you are respectful of the backcountry and cities you live in. Stealth van life in not necessary. Be proud of the life you choose to live, Share this van life journey with everyone. Remember Tiny Homes and The whole tiny house lifestyle is very popular and #vanlife is no different. When you don't hide it people will come say hi and ask you questions. The world is more curious than hateful. Well......Welcome to my everyday van life adventures. My name is Chrome Valdez and i travel full-time with Cruz the bulldog. Stay weird everyone and thank you for being here.

Chrome, consider this. Maybe some of these people can't really afford to travel and that's why they stay in one place. When I go full time van life, I'm going to have to live off my Social Security, which won't be much, and I am already planning on staying in one place as long as I can just to save on gas and wear and tear. I'd love to roam the way you do, and will do a little of it, but I'll be in one spot most of the time simply because that's what I can afford.

No one can say to you that you're doing it wrong because whats right for one person might not be right for others. GO WITH A SMALL TRAILER! It’s Spring and a man needs toys. I custom ordered a heavy duty 5’x8’ w/6.5’ standup capable ceiling, Offroad Toy Hauler Trailer to carry spare food & fuel supplies along with the toys that can fill the time beyond parking, cooking, watching the campfire burn out, and sleeping to then again repeat. My lil trailer carries a Honda Rubicon, a 12.5’ F-RIB folding boat w/20hp motor, upper cabinets for the spare food/fuel supplies, a Rollover Sofa/Sleeper used as spare living space when toys are outside, wired in 12v & 110v, ac/heater/vent, screened windows front & sides, side screened door, and a rear toy hauler ramp with legs to use as a deck. That size trailer, hardened for Offroad travel, can go everywhere without much trouble.

“For all its material advantages, the sedentary life has left us edgy, unfulfilled. Even after 400 generations in villages and cities, we haven’t forgotten. The open road still softly calls, like a nearly forgotten song of childhood. We invest far-off places with a certain romance. This appeal, I suspect, has been meticulously crafted by natural selection as an essential element in our survival. Long summers, mild winters, rich harvests, plentiful game-none of them lasts forever. It is beyond our powers to predict the future. Catastrophic events have a way of sneaking up on us, of catching us unaware. Your own life, or your band’s, or even your species’ might be owed to a restless few-drawn, by a craving they can hardly articulate or understand, to undiscovered lands and new worlds." - Carl Sagan

As others are saying here, quads are really heavy, and they do roll - I have ridden them since I was a teen, and I wouldn't ride one, alone, as far in the back-country as you go. I have a friend who literally broke her neck on an unexpected washed out section of trail. She survived, but only because she was with a group of family and friends. If you want a fun vehicle, pretty much tailor made for weirdos, capable of safer trail riding, and getting you to town if you didn't want to break camp, that would only require a generator and some fuel for a generator, because the vehicle itself will fit under your bed - look into higher-powered self-balancing electric unicycles. Check out the "Chooch Tech" channel to see what they're capable of doing. They're nowhere near as hard to learn as they look. A lot of people are riding a couple hours after opening the box. The electric unicycle itself handles front and back balance (hence the "self-balancing" in the name), and the physics of "angular momentum" help the rider maintain the left-right balance once the tire is doing a few KPH - the way a 2-wheeled bike is easy to balance on two tires, without falling over, when you're moving but you'll immediately fall over if you try to balance the bike on just the two tires while standing still. The bonus, for you specifically, of going electric unicycle over quad (besides safety) is that within a year you'd be killing it with a whole second CZcams community. There are quite a few EUC content creators, but very, very few bringing anywhere near your level of content quality and consistency to the table, and none that are showing different trail riding opportunities of back-country Canada. You'll be able to take Cruz for rides too...pushing him in a jogger stroller (tell me that's not worth a million views). Quads aren't weirdo enough for you, bro. One wheel is enough, for all of us.

  • @R.-.
    @R.-. Před 3 lety +18

A few thougths about a trailer:
    - have it secure so it can be left parked out of town
    - consider putting your roofbox on the trailer to lower your height profile and make (more?) space for solar
    - consider anti-roll protection for the quad bike because you don't want to be trapped / injured by it rolling over while you're a long way from help (plus wear a helmet)
    - if the quad bike can pull the trailer, and the trailer is large enough to sleep in, you can get to safety if your van breaks down somewhere very remote (you might want to keep the extra fuel tank on the trailer if you did this)
    - Q: does anyone know how wild animals in remote areas respond to quad bikes (or dogs for that matter)? The noise might attract unwanted attention. You might need to invest in better self defence.

Didn't you say, in a previous vid that you've already hit the weight limit for your vehicle? What will you have to do to pull a trailer with a quad? Won't a custom trailer be heavier still? Just curious.

“ I can’t sit still” - mebbe try it. Sit still for a few days. If you had that trailer - you could get a kayak/canoe for you and Cruz and then you could venture out from your base camp. The Quad sounds cool. Also mebbe more mechanical futzing. Mebbe go electric with the smaller vehicle? You got a place to stash the trailer for winter? Dude - if you are getting stoked on being in the woods more - do it. Mebbe get into more hiking with Cruz. Skiing too. BC skiing is incredible. Fast, clean and efficient. Especially if you get to come home to a warm cozy van Webasto style. I like the idea of you two getting deeper into the woods.

Yessss!!!! Quads are amazing and you can get into the smaller, rougher areas and really explore unseen areas, hidden waterfalls, more wildlife!! The drone footage would really bring it up a few notches too. A kayak is also a must. To wake up as early as you do..the mist rising off the lake, with the stillness of the water..you will never want to go never civilization again. Just do it!!! Screw waiting, you’ve got summer coming, start shopping around now!!

Hey Chrome, I have two thoughts for you.
#1 I think if you can't sit still, that's just who you are. My best friend is the same way, wherever he is... he wants to be some place else. LOL!
#2 I have friends who ride quads. And they have some golden rules like, "never ride alone". They also use radio communication to talk to each other in case a group is lost or broken down. They carry tow straps in case the quad's engine died and won't start again. It's not really a "loner" thing to do. Sorry to break it to you, but I want you to be safe out there. 👍

Waterbowl unsolicited advice: my parrot was always making muck out of his water, so we got a lixit water bottle that we mounted above his bowl. It's one of those that lets out a sip of water when the critter taps the tip of the spout with it's tongue. This way my bird always has fresh drinking water, and any stray drips land in the water bowl, which we can clean every 3 days or so. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sounds like fun. Small trailer with quad, generator, fuel, food, extra water, and BEER for extended stays. You have to be you. The staying in one spot for days at a time will save fuel, but you will need to have more supplies at the start of your journey. Exploring around the area on a quad can be so much fun, can get to areas van won't go, and you still have your home waiting after a day of exploring. It may even keep your brain satisfied as you are not just sitting still for days. I bet Cruz would enjoy the ride. Can't wait for your next video.

    Food for thought 🤔
    1) just because how others do life is different from how you do life doesn't mean either party is doing it wrong
    2) brand name quads more expensive than off brand quads but easier to find dealers and parts for
    3) if you buy a winch consider not only the weight of your van but also the added weight of a loaded trailer
    4) is a custom built trailer the best option or might a generic trailer customized to your needs and wants be a better option ? Kinda like the path you took with your van build.

Each to their own. I think van life is about living in the van, not moving as far as possible as quickly as possible. I personally wouldn't want to drive every day, I'd like to explore places for more than one day. If I meet nice people I'd want to hang out with them for a while, do stuff together. If I find a great camp spot I'll want to enjoy it for a while. Just because you're stationary living in a house doesn't mean you can't be stationary for a while in a van. No rules, everyone's own rules.
