No regrets visiting this resort this is a solid 4 star place, highlight of which is the most perfect beach! (really does not get any better than that beach).

Thank you. Wonderful resort, and the people were absolutely lovely. Helpful video, and the food one was very helpful as well. My sister and I tipped the chambermaid C$5 a day, and brought plenty of US$1 bills for tipping wait staff, chefs, dancers, musicians, etc. We tipped the concierge and the masseur $5 each. The people of Cuba are living on subsistence wages and rely on tourism (and tips) to be able to eat. We also brought little gifts for the staff; small, useful things like women's sanitary supplies, safety pins, lip balm, dental floss, toothbrushes, etc. Cubans don't like to take Cuban pesos because the currency is unstable, so if you're planning to buy souvenirs, bring American dollars. Only government-run stores accept credit cards. Canadian dollars are often accepted (at a lower rate, of course), but don't bring loonies and toonies because it's a hardship for the Cuban people to manage them. They have to collect enough to exchange for bills with random tourists, then go to the bank to exchange the bills for Cuban pesos. The convertible Cuban peso was discontinued in 2021.

I used to stay at the Las Morlas in the late '90s to about 2003, I liked it, it's also an older hotel on the beach. I also stayed in Cardenas in my mother-in-laws's home that I paid for it's total remodelling when I still worked and got paid $$$$ in the mining industry in northern Ontario....

Great video. Was there any live music, like around the pool in the day or in the lobby in the evenings?

There was! Usually a lady was singing in the main square (very nice) and they also had a band one night. Each night they also had a show in the show room at 9:30 but never made to any of them as we went to bed at like 9. In my opinion those shows should be at 7 or 8 pm.

Going to Blau soon. Been to Varadero many times and the best place to change money is at the resort. You can be 100% sure someone working there will approach you and offer to change your dollars. Usually it's a valet or the person at the towel exchange hut. You'll get way better exchange rates with them. And don't change more than $20 at a time because if you don't spend your pesos before you leave they won't take it back and you'll be stuck with it. $20 Us or Canadian goes a long way in Varadero .

Agree with all above. To add - it was VERY clear to us that for tips Cubans prefer US dollars far more than pesos. As for Canadian dollars, I once gave the bathroom man $1 Canadian coin as tip (to me is a decent amount for bathroom use) and he got offended and asked me to take it back (which I gladly did). Cuban banks don't take Canadian coins, though Cubans can collect them and ask tourists to exchange for paper, so I guess that man didn't want to bother.

I am going there with a very large family trip after Christmas this year, we are very excited! Are there excursions offered at the hotel that we should go on or avoid that you know of? Also, how were the prices for cigars and booze on the resort when compared to the airport and shops in town?

I did about 5 videos on the Cuban trip all I think are good. For sure check this one out (as for booze and cigars I don't consume those so can't help there) czcams.com/video/iNULDgVGVic/video.htmlsi=Ua533HuuNJn3GqGS

To book excursions - cheaper with a local vendor or at the hotel itself?

We didn't want to take chances when it comes to trip so didn't look into locals, booked all trips from Sunwing rep at hotel

We did not have any weeds on the beach, perfectly clean gorgeous beach for sure the highlight of this resort. We selected this because we knew we wanted to go to Havana. To be honest if that was not the case i would probably check-out Holguin
