Powder is forgiving, so that's part of it. Another factor is that they land downhill, so a lot of the downward force is transferred into forward speed. Snowboarders can even land on hard pack or ice as long as the angle is steep enough downhill. When skateboarding, most of the time you land on the flats, so yea. I can see how you'd be curious as to how snowboarders fall from so high up and come out okay
