All of this. I agree with.
We have a saying here in my circle.
“You don’t know what the other person(s) is going through to keep up with their lifestyle or what they have.” I often remind myself of this when I am consuming online content as well as offline when I’m around other people. It’s easy to get caught up in comparisons.
And it doesn’t help when someone else nitpicks or tries to make you feel a type of way about your life.
I believe that it’s important to take a step back and evaluate your life and your struggles. To learn from them and also grow from them. I’ve been doing this a lot lately.
Being uncomfortable with what has been comfortable is a sign of growth.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I work actively in the field of human rights, so thinking about heavy topics is literally what I do for a living and my passion. I have cried after meetings with children who have been victims of human rights abuses and what really helps me to continue working without losing hope is to look at all the progress that has been made over the past 70 years and how many people work everyday, how many volunteers dedicate hours, how many specialists write on these topics that show that hope exists and good is present all around us.

What I love about your channel is that it's so realistic. I've followed you for years now and I really like that I can look up to you because I can relate to you. I do understand the struggle of comparing yourself to others though! Just know that you are AWESOME just the way you are.

This is literally exactly what I needed to hear today. I am such a perfectionist and was beating myself up for not being good enough compared to other people in my life and online. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and making me feel like I’m not alone.

The reason WHY I love your channel so much is because you make a plant-based way of eating accessible to everyone. Overall, you use inexpensive and easy-to-find ingredients, and that is SO refreshing. Your channel also doesn't spew a bunch of diet culture jargon. You just make food that nourishes the body and tastes great, all delivered to us through high quality content!
Although us viewers still only see bits and pieces, I've never had to question your authenticity. On that note, I totally dig the real life chats!

I personally put a lot of effort into NOT following "perfect" lifestyle feeds because they tend to make me anxious, restless, and dissatisfied with my life (which is exactly what capitalistic/Western culture is aiming to do). I love it when my versions of your recipes come out looking almost exactly the same as yours (without the styling, of course)!

Cody Ko has a video on this called “Quit Your Job and Travel Forever.” It’s hilarious, but also really honest about how social media can make us feel less than or constantly dissatisfied with our lives and ourselves. I watch it whenever I’m feeling down and it always makes me laugh and feel better! Aside from that, this video came at a PERFECT time because I’ve been struggling with comparing myself to others a lot lately. It’s hard not to and it’s something I really need to work on. You’ve said before that you’re a perfectionist and I definitely am too in a lot of ways. But I think it’s important to acknowledge my successes and things I’m proud of myself for being able to do and things that I’m good at in general. Less social media, more self-love...💜💜

To be honest, I much prefer casual, 'relatable' content to the very professional looking, extremely polished content. I watch and enjoy both kinds but I find myself really connecting to and reaching for the real life stuff more often. I think a lot of people feel that way, we wanna see real life stuff because we deal with real life stuff cuz we're all just real life people at the end of the day. Idk, just putting that out there, I've been a sub here for a while and definitely appreciate your content for what it is, plus I've loved seeing your evolution and can see how much hard work you put into everything you do 💕💕

You are wise. About 20 years ago, a friend of mine and I agreed on an affirmation that said, "I don't compete with, envy or compare myself to anyone but myself." That statement always swings things back into focus. Yes, we want to admire and inspire ourselves with other people's work, but the only one to compare ourselves with is truly ourselves.

  • @riss6647

I’m just going to say this... the majority of the time your FOOD and your LIFE looks perfect but what I appreciate most about you is when it’s not. It’s more “real” and “raw” and THAT’S why you’re an inspiration. People are starting to wake up and “DOING YOU” will become more and more appreciated. Despite how well the algorithms favor these “perfect accounts”, the people who really support your content appreciate that you’re REAL and I appreciate that you’re using your platform to talk about this. We have to stick together despite our disagreements. Please do more of these. I’m 34 years old and my daughter is 11. Our younger folks need to hear this.

This is a really interesting perspective and I think you're on to something! There is that saying that you act the most like the 5 people you spend the most time with. I definitely think if you're consuming a lot of online content, an internet personality could be one of them

  • @dega96ful
    @dega96ful Před 4 lety +1

It's a good reminder that social media content is curated. We never really know what's going on in someone's life, home, relationships, career - even in our daily face to face relationships. I try to remember that, and to only compare myself to myself. How am I growing- or not- as a person. Thank you for being honest and vulnerable on your channel. That's a difficult thing to do, and so refreshing. You're allowing your viewers at least a glimpse of your process of finding your own voice based on your values and principles. There are so many channels that show beautiful food that's probably delicious, but I love that you take into consideration that there are people out there who don't have the money for fancy gadgets. Maybe they only have very rudimentary kitchen supplies, so that even if they do have access to fresh food, they wouldn't be able to duplicate those more complicated recipes. Good for you!

  • @suziezurfreiheit6825
    @suziezurfreiheit6825 Před 4 lety

There is one extremely important thing that helped me a lot is that you have to prioritize the things that are really important to you over the ones that you "also like" or that show up in your social media feed/clique. In my mind people don't listen to themselves anymore these days. Just because everyone seems to like cooking, you don't have to and just because x number of bloggers prioritize their outward appearance over anything, going for a walk can be enough for you.

The thing i love the most about your videos, is that they are absolutely realistic, budget friendly and relatable. With the Pandemic there is a huge obsession for showing an Instagram perfect life, and it is exhausting. Real life is imperfect.

I'm really glad you uploaded this video. I've been feeling really insecure about myself lately and I find myself comparing myself to other people all the time. Whether its comparing what other people have achieved in their life by my age and feeling like I should be doing more or have accomplished more even tho I'm only 23 theres still so much that I feel like I havent done or have missed out on. Or I find myself comparing myself to other girls appearances like why is my skin still breaking out and why havent I lost the weight that I've been trying to lose for several months? It's a bad mentality to be in. It's good to remind ourselves that we cant be perfect all the time and social media certainly doesnt help these insecurities.

Please don't be so hard on yourself. I think you're the best in your niche. Everyone else's recipes just don't taste good or they cook in a way that I can't eat (oils, lots of unhealthy food). Someone can have the best photos but if their recipes suck, then I'm not going back to their channel. So don't compare to them. You are doing great :) just keep pumping out videos and recipes and just focus on the best you can do.

The thing is, When I watch your videos, I watch it to get ideas and put them in practice. Whereas when I watch a big production channel like say, Pick up Limes, for example, it is more to relax and appreciate how beautiful her videos are but I'm not really going to do anything with her content after watching it. Dear Caitlin, I've been watching your videos and making your recipes probably since close to the time you started making videos. You have inspired me so much-from making amazing recipes to showing me that a real, authentic person can create a sustainable online business. I love that your recipes are simple and accessible. The "live below the line" video you did years ago where you showed what it would be like to live on a grocery budget of $7 a week was so aware and touched on so many levels of the reality of the world that we live in. Living a plant-based lifestyle is an amazing choice but it's not necessarily realistic for everyone in the world. You've made this community a safe, educational, accepting place for people from all walks of life. I've loved seeing the changes you've made in light of the BLM movement. Your choices to highlight and donate to BIPOC creators shows that you have truly stuck to your values over a long period of time. The online space is a trip. We're always going to be comparing ourselves. I truly appreciate that that hasn't stopped you from making simple, authentic work. Sending light to you, you've truly touched my life

Just want to first say that every one of your feelings are totally valid! Buuuuut! I never once thought your house/ kitchen was messy or anything like that, and I LOVE your home design. It’s exactly how I’d want my home! Minimalist and earthy without sacrificing any comfort. As a food blogger, I look up to your style, (clothes and home), your work ethic, gorgeous photography, GENIUS recipe development, how well you stay in line with your objective of healthy, simple, and accessible recipes, balancing work and life, and excelling financially by doing what you love! Tailoring your vlogs and photos to look more aesthetic doesn’t make me discouraged because my life isn’t as “perfect”. It inspires me to keep moving towards my dreams so that I can have the perfect home, wardrobe, meal plan, daily routine, and of course career! You are killing it Caitlin, and gotta say, I also love how you get personal with your videos sometimes and share your thoughts and life with us! Literally every point you've said I've been thinking to myself too. I tell myself so many times to not compare myself to others on Instagram and that they're not realistically perfect, yet still find myself doing it sometimes! I won't get into a rant about whether social media should be a thing of the past, but there's no doubt it is damaging on mental health, which is why I'm so happy that you've posted this completely honest content. These are reminders everybody needs now and again so that they don't stay out of touch with reality and the simple things that matter around them, as well as focusing more on their own wonderfully unique lives. Not to knock people that do get help from an editor or manager etc if their channel does grow and they do need help but yeah I think we're all guilty of trying to make things seem better and nothing we present online shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt. Thanks for the ramble!

Social media has always been a downfall for me in my self confidence when it comes to comparisons. I have autoimmune diseases that take a toll on me mentally and physically, not allowing me to do plenty of things others can do, so seeing that makes me sad a lot of the time. Also with spending more time online due to the pandemic and seeing people say that people like me are deemed unworthy or should be "sacrificed", it is just not good lol. What has helped has just been accepting I am not like others and everything 'is what it is', so to speak. It is hard to feel better when it comes to comparisons, and acceptance isn't easy, but it helps if you keep practicing self love and acceptance. Sending all my love.

Hey! I like you & your content because you seem very real & accessible. I'm not a vegan, but am working toward being vegan. The diet you present seems attainable, healthy, and balanced. You are one of three vegan channels I watch because you seem real & you are very informative. Watching your channel gives me ideas about foods/meals I can try. I am mostly vegetarian now. Still working towards 100% vegetarian & then vegan. I have never noticed your house being a mess. Your dogs sure are cute. You seem like you have a normal, healthy relationship with your fiance. :)

ALSO I watch your blog because it’s comforting and home-orientated. It’s real. Filming by yourself from your own home creates a subtext. I find these over-produced videos with big production teams completely false and lacking in person ability.

  • @DuncanGardinerClassicalGuitar

You're such an inspiration! Your recipes, ideas, tips, and tricks have all changed my life for the better. I love all of your videos. You come across as very professional but also really down to earth, which I really appreciate. We all love for you for who you are JUST as you are. I also found the topic of this video very helpful. I also struggle with the comparisons I make with others in my own profession, so I can relate to your worries. Thanks for speaking about this; food for thought, indeed.

Your chanel was shown to me by the algorithm and I really enjoy your videos. And I think and compare a lot too or think I am not blank enough but I try to do a strategy where I thank my mind for this thought, but letting it go then because it won't help me really getting where I want (not that I had figured this out yet) The point is, I think your chanel is fantastic and I support you

What about just cultivating gratitude? You’re very lucky to own a house. Where I live, my husband and I were lucky to buy a condo, since we live in the most expensive part of Canada. If I had a huge garden and house when first married, I’d be pretty blown away.

I love your chatty style videos! Honestly thats what drew me to your channel which may seem opposite since your niche is mainly vegan recipes. I found you through your yoga videos because I am a yogi newb and was binging peoples journeys for inspiration. I find your views to be very insightful and you speak so well. I personally would love more of these videos.

Caitlin, you're such an awesome person first of all!...I love your videos, and I am so thankful that beyond all of the expectations that are floating around nowadays, you are always genuine and so down to earth! That is the reason why I watch your videos ,and well of course because you inspire me to cook beyond words and also bc your recipes are amazing! I don't think you should be worried about meeting unrealistic expectations, that at the end of the day, are fake and dishonest, to be honest, your videos never look messy, actually, your videos inspire me and make my day every single time. I love your content, always have, always will...dont change! I look forward to watching your future videos. Thank you 😊 💜

But you already have it all - maybe not the most perfect Instagram in terms of glossy magazine style. BUT: I don't care and I realized how much time you put into making realllyy delicious recipes when I checked out your banana bread recipe and this is what I am looking for. And I feel it's more important to have something more sustainable like improving your recipe creating and having a fulfilling personal life than being this seemingly perfectly styled blogger who is secretly sad and will have to quit one day.

I love these types of videos!!! Some of my favorite videos are actually mukbangs and the ones talking about touchier/emotional subjects I appreciate even more. I have some assumptions about a lot of my CZcamsrs and would love to see more into your actual thoughts/actions/passions. Since you post a lot of food content, a mukbang could also appeal to those viewers as well.

Hi Caitlin! These are my favorite videos that you make. This is the reason I keep watching you, because you are a real person with feelings and a life outside social media. I have always been way too nervous to make my own CZcams channel, so the fact that you've been doing this for so long and are so passionate about vegan food is super inspiring. You are one of my role models (even though you are only a couple years older than me). I work at a vegan restaurant in Cleveland, OH, and I always imagine what it would be like if you and Dylan came in lol. I would probably be starstruck tbh. But, in all sincerity, I really admire you, your hard work and your candidness, despite the pressures of social media. You are amazing! Keep being you and doing what you're doing!! xoxo.
