As a Tucson Native born and raised one piece of advice is watch your cat. As peaceful and relaxing as the desert seems there are many animals and creatures lurking everywhere. Rattle snakes, javelinas, tarantulas, large hawks, bull snakes, coyotes and so much more. They love to sneak and hide in places they don’t belong creating sneak attacks on predators or food. I’ve lost animals due to these types of animals and would hate to see you lose your beautiful cat 🐈. Good luck and stay hydrated during these extremely hot summer days!! 🫶🏼
Great video. Not to bring you down, but as a guy who has lived and hiked in the desert around Tucson for 40+ years, keep your cat inside. Coyotes love cats, and not in a good way.
He is only allowed outside when we are with him - he's not a free ranger. So don't worry, nothing is going to attack when we are next to him at all times.
My inside/outside cat was killed by a coyote in my front yard. I saw the whole thing! It was so awful. 🥹 💔
@@JeanieMarieUnfortunately they will snatch them even if you're there. Happened to my neighbor. Coyote jumped the wall and snatched her little dog who was right next to her and he was gone before she could do anything. It literally is the wild west!
On another note, because I don't want to be a negative Nelly, welcome to Tucson! I'm in the Dove Mountain area in Marana. Love it here, but like you, I've been kind of a nomad most of my life but not internationaly like you, which I'm super jealous about. Starting to get ansy so we'll see what the future brings! @@JeanieMarieguess you will learn the hard way. Coyotes will snatch a cat or small dog right in front of you in a split second. Hawks are another one. Don’t think your cat is safe because your outside with it.
Landscaping looks great! Also came from the midwest and find it refreshing waking up to sunshine every morning in the desert. I do miss the lakes and greenery but not the mosquitoes and snow.

Had been coming to SE AZ for 20 years (see channel, you'll understand), and after 30 yrs in Denver, we moved to Tucson 4.5 yrs ago. Never thought I'd be planting things in my backyard needing a jackhammer. 😁 Although we knew the dealio after spending time in AZ, we hadn't gone through full years of hot, no water, tons of water, drought, etc. We're definitely desert rats, not snowbirds. Best advice I can give you is 'lean into it'. The SW isn't for everyone, but there are so many "secret gardens" if one is willing to do a little treasure hunting. 🥂
Native southern Arizonan here. You may want to rethink the white gravel. It reflects light and you’ll feel like you’re surrounded by a stone oven

Hello Jeanie and Vince! This is really an awesome, and yet another reflective video! The progress on your two’s house is coming along nicely! I think you two made the right decision-- get the outside functional because this is an outside part of the country!
We are having a super time in Tucson! So much so that I just extended our stay from today to Thursday. We have been so busy looking at areas that we wanted to add 2 relax days. We have seen a lot since 12 April! Thank you, again, for your tip about going to open houses! That worked out super! We did those on both weekends, and then just did self exploring and drive bys of houses on the market during the week.
I think the trip to Tucson has been a success. I feel that my wife really really liked it. But, we will wait a year to do this move. Our house in Ouray is 136 yrs old…..and you don’t just get it ready to sell in a weekend. Plus, that will be a better timeline for my job.
I really enjoyed your reference to how spiritual the desert can be. I feel the same way. Joshua Tree National Park is my favorite park. And now, Saguaro National Park is up there too! There is definitely a very calm and peaceful pull to those places. I feel like the Saguaros are like a council of elders that have a ton of wisdom to share. If they could only talk….

Your cat is at a big risk from coyotes and hawks. They will take them right in front of you. I grew up in AZ.

I HATED IT! Moved from So cak beach area bcuz of covid and after 18 months I was so done. Didn't like half the people around Gilbert, a lot of ignorance, not very welcoming for how much many talked about people from other states, etc. No family local, and growing up in a state where we're outside literally year round to living in 115° heat almost 4 months was NOT happening. Told my husband I'm OUT and kids are not going another day in school here.
As much as I hated HOA land, there's no way I would ever live with NO one around lile middle of no where
If I knew you two were going to need this much rock, I would've opened up a rock store across the street & then retired to Colombia. Be careful in the sun this summer... many folks in the upper Great Lakes Region come from Scandinavian heritage, and simply put, we're not built for that many days of sunlight. Great job on the decorating, you've got great taste.
Right?! I should have just opened our own rock shop! 😄 yes, we are definitely being careful in this sun, the days are getting warmer and the sun is feeling stronger!

Ya'll did a good on the house. Being rural, I would definitely invest in some GOOD cameras/security dog and some 2A training/gear. That migrant situation is blowing up in your area, and it's supposed to get a whole lot worse here in the coming months.

I'm from PA, and I have been yearning to live IN the desert, too...dispersed camping on BLM land - with tent and all...
Your video inspires me...the desert has its own beauty...the barrenness, quietude/serenity, open vistas, flat landscapes, single roads that seem to drive into infinity...
I can have people-person moments, but I tend to be an introvert-leaning ambivert...I love being alone and relaxing in the stillness of the moment...
Even though I'm retired, never married, having no children, debt-free, and itching to go, my move has a timing to it...
