I came to the same conclusion; the fjr1300 is it. Don't forget, not a lot of bikes have ABS anywhere near this price point. I would consider a cruiser, but the brakes and handling on them is so bad I feel like Fred Flinstone. And, like I said, no ABS. I'm making double disc brakes up front and ABS a requirement from now on.
ive said the same about the cruiser bike and the handling as that's something you have to get used to. I did love the FJR but maybe worth looking at a few others like the pan and the trophy both videos on my channel and many other now on my ducati and this is another bike you have to get used to even wit the bad start I had with it lol thanks for watching bud
Another good video Mark. My mate has the mk2 Fjr1300 and I ride the 5th Gen Vfr800. More torque and power on the Fjjr but way more weight.I'm happy to sacrifice CCs for less weight and more agility. In terms of practicality as a tourer, there's nothing in it.
I've had a few shafties ... and eventually have come to realise I like chain more --- yes, you don't have the daily/weekly checks/maintenance ... but they're a doddle to swap - which is needed much less regularly with a Scottoiler too; against a full back end strip to grease splines etc etc.... Part of me wishes Yam had developed the original FJs further... but I know people absolutely adore their FJRs! With good reason.
i really enjoyed mine and ive had two and to be fair just great all round bikes with lots of power if you want to play yet luggage for all occasion enjoy bud
@@mrthomas394 There's a lot of info on the reputedly excellent Owners Forum. If you're a competent, confident DIY mechanic, I would say learn to do it yourself ... In an ideal world, I think if I went down this route, it would be nice to have a 2nd bike, so you could take your time doing it... Or do it in winter when doing less miles. Still excellent bikes, but this can't be neglected.
Had one loved it but liked a drink! Bearings go on the suspension pivot underneath, needle roller bearings easy job drill and fit nipples help. Other than that bulletproof mill, would love to try the 6 speed
agree and agree they are great bike too, thanks for watching I have a few other videos on the fjr and other bike you may like to watch please like and sub mark
I would suggest a Suzuki GSX-1250. I owned one recently. Incredible torque, almost super sport performance with 'only' about 98hp, stable, full set of panniers/top box. I ended up ditching it for a 650 Versys though, simply because i mainly use the bike in the Appennines, and a lighter one is much better, and almost 70kgs difference is a lot. On the plus side, if you ride a lot on the highway and such, the GSX is the way to go. Averages at 18,5kms/l , not bad. Also ABS, gear indicator, hydraulic clutch. Very nice bike in my opinion. Around 4/5k euros with less than 35k kms.
ive owned both well lots of other bikes and the videos on the 1250 and versys are on here and agree with the versys they are great one up all purpose bikes I move up to the tiger from the versys video on here as more power then to the multi video on here I guess im trying to say I have loads more videos for you to watch lol I did like the old fjr mot so much the 1250 take care bud
HI GUYS OK THIS IS MY VIEW, I'M SURE YOU MAY LOVE ANOTHER TOURER AND THERE'S A FEW OTHERS I DID'NT CHAT ABOUT .. ALSO NOT THE ZX1000 THE Z1000SX . THANKS FOR WATCHING
Wight walker 245 they nice but dated bikes now , fast. In there day but as you say great value for money smooth ride all but a bit boatie going down the road, enjoy bud
mark savage ohlins shock, vfr bars. This one's as nice to ride as a zzr1400 (2006) I rode recently. I can't fault it for £2,000k and the grunt is amazing 165 odd bhp. Build quality. Dated perhaps, an old design now but was way ahead of time and reached a state of perfection. Love your fjr though. Love my bird too.
I had the earlier fj1200 - lots of power but thirsty and would overheat in an autobahn toll queue in high summer - changed it for a srx600 - lighter more fuel efficient and still torquey but runs out of steam beyond 85 mph - maybe a twin next?
Hi bud the fjr1300 was an amazing upgrade, they got it all right with mpg & mph, still a heavy bike but more balanced and an enjoyable ride well worth a test ride before trying a twin as loads of storage and a mile muncher I have a few other tourers you might like to watch my review on trophy 1215 , pan st1300 and a few others mark
Where do the panniers go? I think I will stick to my old Triumph Trophy 312 until manufacturers wake the f*** up and understand what a medium touring bike actually does.
I liked this fjr as it was a good bike and the panniers fit on very well wirh no rack , very nice I've had a thophy 1215 Video on here worth a watch plus when I went to the Isle of White on one tant well over 200 miles bud full luggage with the wife Worth a watch bud BMW gs etc etc The fjr has a 26l tank too so was a long distance tourer so worth a test ride bud

I had a 51 plate mark 1, amazing bike and a great all rounder, so comfortable too and great weather protection. Would definitely have another one.
all round have to agree bud and ive had a few of these and end up buying another lol
I've had straight twins, straight fours, triples and V twins. The latter is my favourite but the FJR is a tempting alternative.
They do ride well but little missing of gadgets !

Just bought an 05 fjr1300 with 15k miles for 4 grand it's beautiful and such a great bike

@@marksavage the suspension linkage's are cause for concern though and look a right bitch to do... Very expensive at a garage as well

What about the Triumph Trophy, was tempted to buy one, and would have if the pan hadn't come along at a reasonable price.
