Best metal band on the planet right now, IMO. These guys and Deathspell Omega owned the 2010s for me, and this album is probably AOTY. Ulcerate are really a mix of Gorguts, Immolation, and post-metal bands like Neurosis, Isis and Cult of Luna. They took the complexity and dissonance from the former two and the atmosphere from the latter three. Terrifying combination, and truly the soundtrack to the apocalypse.
same thing happened to me around when vermis just released. i had never heard of them....luc lemay said ulcerate was one of his favs along with deathspell omega ( which is a fav of mine) so i checked um out and they have been my favorite band ever since. even got to see them live in 2017 in tampa!
@@dookietoon7198 Very nice! I found Deathspell Omega right after Ulcerate. Someone on an Ulcerate video talked about how the guitars in DSO have similarities in sound, so I checked them out and I like them a lot as well. I also found out about Gorguts shortly after and they are great as well.
Sure is! Finally had the chance to watch them play live, right before Mgła, and let me tell you, Mgła's drums sounded like nothing out of the ordinary when compared to Jamie's performance. If you haven't you should really also check Kenny Grohowski from Imperial Triumphant. That guy held a ridiculous drum solo while one of guitar players from John Zorn's Issurection project swapped a string that broke while they were playing, I have it on video, I may upload it to CZcams some day! Cheers!
The description about them being dizzying and dissonant is still mostly correct. They had slight hints of melody on the previous album and went full in with the new one. The previous records are anything but melodic. If you want Ulcerate at their most hellish, listen to Everything is Fire or Vermis.
This was one of their more "melodic" songs, their "regular" songs fit the describtion! They are perfect for bad days. a disharmonic and crushing massacre
Such and underrated band! This new album is my favorite of theirs since ”destroyers of all”. *Happy to see that you liked it! One of my favorite metal bands. Hope you’re doing well, friend!
You discovered a sacred gem of a band with the greatest drummer in the metal community slowly getting their due recognition. All their work is great, start at Everything is Fire though. That's an absolute masterpiece
"Tool, Gojira, and Meshuggah had a love child." That's…actually pretty spot on. Lots of Gorguts influence too but of course if you haven't heard them that means nothing haha.
.... this band took metal and turned it into an experience, accompanied by a really bizzare video; like they condensed a stage show or an opera and turned it into metal. What a bizarre and yet wonderous piece of music...
Check out a song from Vermis like Clutching Revulsion. Or Cold Becoming from The Destroyers Of All. The latest album is a masterpiece, truly. But it is their most focused and melodic work. And most approachable.
Been listening to Ulcerate for 2 years now. And if I was you after listening to the newest album I check under the bed and look for portals and shit. FURIOUSLY BRUTAL. For an old metal head like me this is a heaven sent
Although I feel this newest album is their greatest their entire discography is stellar. With Destroyers of All and Everything is Fire being my favorites
Ima be honest here, I tried to listen to this whole album before and wasn't really feeling it. HOWEVER, upon hearing this, I may have to go back to it. This is artistically incredible. I think I was looking for a casual tech death album when I heard it first, instead of something as powerful and intense as this. This is a really amazing song, and their musicianship is ridiculous! Definitely get the Gojira and Tool influence, as well as Gorguts. Very cool stuff, it feels pretty fresh. Not an every day kind of listen, but very awesome none-the-less! 🤘🤘
Dude if you listen to the album you have to especially listen to There Is No Horizon. Listen closely to how simple but complex the song actually is. My album of the year hands down man
ULCERATE Most accesible song!!!....I mean listen their songs like-Yield to naught or The IMPERIOUS WEAK!!!.... Hahahahah is something else man!!!..Still This last album is absolute amazing!!
This is ULCERATE Most "accesible" Álbum!!....sooo yeahh in the past they were the Most Devasting Band in the planet!!!...Check them out as you life depend in it!!
@@TheTrveMothlord that'd fit in a very broad sense but they also have elements of prog and tech and even doom. Ulcerate are legit hard to classify any more specifically than just "death metal" But yeah, Country Western would fit nearly as appropriately as Deathcore 😆

Great comparison. I hear all of those in this album with a mix of their own style.
This entire album - Stare into Death and be Still is fucking cold. Definitely worth a full listen
AOTY thus far
Masterpiece and their best yet!!
Their entire discography is worth a damn listen
Glad you discovered Ulcerate! Easily New Zealand's heaviest band.
Ulcerate is so amazing. Found them about a month ago and they are already one of my favorite bands ever, after listening to their entire discography.

Same with the release of the firts single of the last album
(I knew Gorguts a bit and I'm a die hard fan of DSO)
Same!
Dude, Amia Venera Landscape profile pic ❤ Awesome taste
Ulcerate are truly magnificent and Jamie is the best drummer out there. A great live band too.
He’s great. But Matt from animals as leaders is crazy on the drums too. Like, insane!

This album is insanely good! Wake: Devouring Ruin is absolutely worth your money as well.
I had never heard of them before, and just listened to a short snippet out of one song. Sounds promising as hell! Thank you for the tip, friend.
@@MegaLaban12345You're welcome! Also check out Hornwood Fell: Cursed Thoughts.
Joshua Coe will do!
Yeaaaaa DR is an amazing album too

Took me YEARS to get into this band but now that I am maaaaaan. Can't stop spinning their stuff. Stare Into Death is their best yet imo.
Never heard of them before. Instantly loving this band.

True...I was reading that they are tuned all the way up to E flat on this one.Which is honestly astonishing lol
How have you not heard of Gorguts?!
come on! haven't heard of Neurosis of Gorguts! Well check them both out, soon!!
There new album is Amazing. imo there like a mix of Gorguts and Esoteric.
Now that's my cup of tea, euh I mean glass of beer
> never heard of neurosis or gorguts
oh buddy
your extreme metal knowledge is EXTREMELY lacking
one of the best albums of 2020!
Dead oceans and destroyer of all by these guys are 2 of the heaviest songs I've ever heard.
Also COLD BECOMING and THE IMPERIOUS WEAK!!!
You are the reason I keep finding new, amazing stuff!! Thanks for posting!

If you like Ulcerate you should check out Gaerea (black metal from Portugal) and Numenorean (black metal from Canada)
Gaerea - Null
Numenorean - Adore
Although I feel this newest album is their greatest their entire discography is stellar. With Destroyers of All and Everything is Fire being my favorites
Glad you dig it my man! Definitely need to check out Konvent - Puritan Masochism. Those ladies will kick your teeth in from the opening riff! 🤘
That sounds so much like Doom Metal
@@Furykidxxx Konvent is death doom. They are amazing!
This band and particular album is A THING. found it recently, deep shit. Like it.
Though, I Still recommend you to look into Anaal Nathrakh.

Shrine of Malice - Chainbreaker

I feel vibes from Tool, but also from October Tide for the tones and Mgla for the sheer dissonance. Their drummer kicks ASS.
This band is amazing
Please do more of this, Mark
If you want a song by them by how their described check out "extinguished light"
Or caecus
@@Kain_R_Heinlein or The IMPERIOUS WEAK!!

Clutching Revulsion
Neurosis - The Doorway!
Excellent band... greetings from Greece beardman🤘🤘🇬🇷🇬🇷👊👊
I think that's the time for a behemoth reaction. Look up for Lucifer. That's old but gold. You won't understand one word either

Check out Veil Of Maya- Outsider
A bit like the Septic Flash of the times ФΣΟΠΤΡΟΝ
Try immolation
Did u realize, that all the faces was capture in the moment of them facing their death?
I know it's only May, but this just might be my AoTY!
there is a track in this album called there is no horizon i think its the most darkest track i listen in last decade man
I don't think a meshuggah vibe, it's more of a behemoth sound
Band is incredible.
Best death metal album of 2020, easy. Band is fucking awesome. Title track is insane, but the whole album is a masterpiece.
Man, I don't agree with at least half of what you said but anyway I love your reaction to this aweeeesome band.
Isn't Jerry the one who suggested Humanity's Last Breath to you?

Please react to Darko US - Insects. By far the filthiest breakdown of 2020! This track rips
👍👏👏👏👏
Reminds me of behemoth
They literally sound nothing like Tool, Gojira or Meshuggah
Wrong
Their overall sound doesn't sound like any one of those bands but if your mesh all that together I can totally hear it.
Gorguts 2.0! End of the discussion
@@galacticriminalxSays the guy who doesn’t even who Neurosis and Gorguts are.
@@SliderFury1No if you mesh Gorguts and Immolation with Neurosis and Isis you get this.
This feels like the Deftones equivalent for Deathcore. And that can't be a bad thing.
this isn't deathcore at all
...deathcore? lol what. I get the Deftones call, but if anything I'd expect someone to call this blackened death metal.

The guy on vocals also plays bass, damn! They kinda remind me of a darker version of Integrity.
