    Best metal band on the planet right now, IMO. These guys and Deathspell Omega owned the 2010s for me, and this album is probably AOTY. Ulcerate are really a mix of Gorguts, Immolation, and post-metal bands like Neurosis, Isis and Cult of Luna. They took the complexity and dissonance from the former two and the atmosphere from the latter three. Terrifying combination, and truly the soundtrack to the apocalypse.

      same thing happened to me around when vermis just released. i had never heard of them....luc lemay said ulcerate was one of his favs along with deathspell omega ( which is a fav of mine) so i checked um out and they have been my favorite band ever since. even got to see them live in 2017 in tampa!

      @@dookietoon7198 Very nice! I found Deathspell Omega right after Ulcerate. Someone on an Ulcerate video talked about how the guitars in DSO have similarities in sound, so I checked them out and I like them a lot as well. I also found out about Gorguts shortly after and they are great as well.

    • @partirbukadera
      @partirbukadera Před rokem +1

      Sure is! Finally had the chance to watch them play live, right before Mgła, and let me tell you, Mgła's drums sounded like nothing out of the ordinary when compared to Jamie's performance. If you haven't you should really also check Kenny Grohowski from Imperial Triumphant. That guy held a ridiculous drum solo while one of guitar players from John Zorn's Issurection project swapped a string that broke while they were playing, I have it on video, I may upload it to CZcams some day!
      Cheers!

    The description about them being dizzying and dissonant is still mostly correct. They had slight hints of melody on the previous album and went full in with the new one. The previous records are anything but melodic. If you want Ulcerate at their most hellish, listen to Everything is Fire or Vermis.

    Ima be honest here, I tried to listen to this whole album before and wasn't really feeling it. HOWEVER, upon hearing this, I may have to go back to it. This is artistically incredible. I think I was looking for a casual tech death album when I heard it first, instead of something as powerful and intense as this. This is a really amazing song, and their musicianship is ridiculous! Definitely get the Gojira and Tool influence, as well as Gorguts. Very cool stuff, it feels pretty fresh. Not an every day kind of listen, but very awesome none-the-less! 🤘🤘
