I think Xiao has the saddest backstory, this guy was enslaved, forced to kill innocent ppl and devour their dreams, lost his 4 comrades, and still has to carry this burden, the karma of the evil gods still to this day flow in his body, he still slaughters to this date and suffers for eternity, his life is just suffering
and the fact that many people will not remember him after he is gone is even more depressing. His friend who had a small statue had was in a house of ruins. in a new quest you can see that Xiao was there remembering his friend. It's quite sad how this will be the case for Xiao, he's mostly known as a legend and many people will not see him, but he doesn't care for that.

He said "To live is to suffer" in his own story quest.

Qiqi is I think one of the best backstories for how ironic iand cruel s. Trying to remember a home that is gone already, unable to remember the ones she loved even though they were the reason she obtained the vision and was revived by the Adeptus in the first place
Qiqi's backstory is very sad :( I also feel very bad for how she is currently as well. I just want her to be happy :(

And I’m still waiting for Qiqi quest and I hope her story gets a closure before the game ends.

The fact there’s theory’s that Guizhong and Zhongli had Romantic feelings for eachother is even sadder, imagine her confessing to him and she just dies and never had the chance too
What’s even sadder is that Zhongli might have never known what the concept of Love was until Guizhong died…

Back then, he was like how Shenhe is now but more obligated to kill without hesitation. Dude probably had anger issues at the time but I wouldn’t even blame him since he needed to be the apex predator during the Archon War.

Especially since it was originally separated five ways, and those small pieces of the hatred caused the other four to become corrupted and most die. And now he's expected to fight this on his own, it is a complete wonder he is still uncorrupted.
After hearing all the details about Zhonglis backstory i cried when thinking about who "those who share the memory" could be.
Being able to live so long must be painful :(

Childes backstory is pretty sad but ends on a heartwarming note. Falling into the abyss as a young boy, training himself to harness the energy of the abyss in order to survive while losing his innocence. Finally returns home and reunited with his family, hoping to make sure his siblings retain their innocence as much as possible while he works in secret as a harbinger, being ordered to partake in horrible tasks he is clearly not proud of. Hiding the truth of his actions from his family
His story quest was what made me like Childe so much! Seeing him care so much for his brother was sweet

Zhongli: Lost multiple friends and lives with the memories of them ( i always think of Guizhong as Zhonglis lover)
Beelzebul: Losing her twin sister during the war against khaneriah

@@thecoolerzhongli5566 basically they're twins. ei is beelzebul and makoto is baal, but the people of inazuma thought they're the same person bcuz makoto and ei was never seen with each other makoto is always at the tenshukaku and ei is the one who's fighting outside and they thought they're the same person so they're both called baal even tho ei is beelzebul, when makoto died ei took the mantle of baal and now stayed inside tenshukaku like makoto did and create another shogun for outside like herself in the past.
She's now at makoto's place and she created another shogun to take her place outside
Baal had also lost her other 3 friends in the war
At last finally some said she is Beelzbul and not baal

I feel like Rosaria should be on this list. if you didn't know her backstory in a nutshell is basically her entire village was slaughtered by bandits and they made her work as their slave . as a child she had to kill the person who kidnapped her and then she was accepted into the bandits. Fast forward a couple years and the Knights of Favonius kill the bandits and force her to become a nun at the church.
Maybe I'll include in a party 2! That is indeed very sad :(
i think it's a pretty common backstory tho but still sad
thankfully they didn't force her, they saved her, that's why she is loyal to them, despite having no faith in the church

Kaeya and Dilucs backstory has always been one of interest to me, both in the emotions in it and also the translation part. There are about 4 slight variations of Crepus' death: One immediately to Ursa, one to the delusion, one in Diluc's arms and one from Diluc's arms out of pity. I'm glad you made the point that they still clearly care for each other as it's a detail not many notice, like one neat little detail is that in the Chinese translation both character's favourite animals are owls. This was retranslated in one version of Genshin but then changed back to Kaeyas being a nightingale for some reason (as far as I know it hasn't been changed back again). I think it's the bittersweetness of their lore that makes it so interesting to read into, as well as seeing differences between translations and trying to come to an overall general conclusion (there are also cultural barriers such as Sworn brothers in Chinese whereas brothers in English, the best way I can describe sworn brothers is like 2 friends sworn to an oath I guess?), Very interesting video by the way I enjoyed it!

I follow the Chinese since that's mihoyos language of origin so it's what they most likely intend, and also the English is rlly hard to follow because of translations being translations, though you take what you want as canon, though everything I've mentioned here is at least canon somewhere

Inside the stonebell was some kind of sacred knowledge related to Celestia, Guizhong knew if zhongli found out he'd get in big trouble.
i think collei has one of the saddest backstories as well just thinking that her mother was seeking help just to be killed and she had already lost her father. collei became a labrat to the fatui and the amount of pain she suffered each day from their experiments with her. they literally put a bloodthirsty archon inside of her which she now has to deal with their voices each day and reframe from harming anyone as that is not what she wishes to do.

At Liyue, There is an NPC called “Childish Jiang” and basically when he was a kid he played Hide and Seek with his mom, He waited for years, and she never came back. Little did he know his mom already died and he couldn’t read her gravestone because he didn’t learn how to read yet.
The fact there might be two yakshas left Xiao being one and the other one that got corrupted
i think there was a world quest where it said that the one who ran away ended up dying? I can't remember too well since it was so long ago I played it.
@@mouses_HK Yea it was a world quest called The Yaksha’s Wish, which has a message saying that Bosacius and Alatus (Xiao’s old name) were the only Yakshas left. The Yaksha who wrote the message said they will leave the mortal realm and whoever find their message can take all of their treasures if they want. So if we take into account that the electro Yaksha who turned evil has to be put down lest he threaten Liyue’s safety, the pyro one went mad, at least one Yaksha died in the battle between the hydro and Geo one, then the one who “left the mortal realm” (implied suicide) would be either Geo or hydro (whoever survive that battle)

If you think about it the archons have kinda similar backstories they all lost the people they loved
I had goosebumps when you were telling Xiao's backstory.
For everyone's information, Guizhong and Zhongli were not lovers, it's just people shipping them together, a cute head canon, but kinda misleading how people straight up try to pass it off as canon when in reality nothing of the sort was ever confirmed. Apart from that, I agree, the genshin characters' have pretty fucked up backstories.
They relationship is just like Gilgamesh and Enkidu 🙂 it's a very good friendship
One of his weapons is named after her. "Memories of Dust" or something like that
It's pretty much heavily hinted in lore that they had little spark between them but there duties didn't let them accept it. They might not be lovers in public but they sure loved each other..
@@why-xg2se I don't think it's pretty much "heavily hinted", lmao. I read all the voice lines, manhua and the story quests, but I did not find the spark you are speaking of. He talked about Guizhong like he did about Azdaha, but you are free to have your own interpretation, but that's simply not something I felt was present as some people seem to say it was.
@@radiopieactive It's not his weapon, it's a catalyst weapon, pretty sure Zhongli uses a spear. That catalyst has Guizhong's lore, like Albedo's event sword does his.
I am very, very late but Xiao and Zhongli.. really, I can relate to some parts of their stories and at the same time I can't imagine how it's like to be completely in their shoes. To be devoured by hate, yet to have a contract to protect. To love and to care for something(s), never knowing how far should that love go, and then losing many precious friends.

There are alot of sad story like qiqi and hu tao but i would agree about this 3 backstories especially zhongli and guizhong

A bunch of sad stories in genshin that I think are worth mentioning:
Dainslief. Watched as everyone he cared about died, and saw his people turn into hilicurls. He also lives with corruption- which is partly why he’s been able to live for 500 years, but is also a constant reminder of his suffering.
Baal -lost her twin during the archon war
Aether/Lumine: Aether discovers that his sibling is in control of the abyss order.
Bosacius: The karmic debt made him lose is memories. Only when he was at his deathbed did he remember his adeptus family.
Shenhe: Was left for dead after her mothers death, as was later taken in by the cloud retainer.
I think people underestimate how tragic Eula is. Everyday she is literally discriminated, she is thought of as a failure by her family and everyone else hates her. It's basically hell on Earth for her. She developed her signature catch phrase as a sort of "coping" mechanism that grandmaster Varka taught her

Shenhe story is really sad. I understand that it was posted before shenhe was released but her story is sad too!

… i think singora’s backstory was sad. In the butterfly’s description, it said something like this. Im gonna summarise it.
Singora originally had the power of fire, but maybe after living in Sneznaya, it turned to ice. In the second phase, she didn’t use the power of fire/pyro, but “recalled upon her original power” and “remembered the face of the person she could never see again.”
Her backstory is really sad. It’s about Rostam (someone she was In love with) but I’m not gonna go into detail since it takes far too long. You can search it up on YT
her backstory was: she used to be a lovely maiden living peacefully in mondstadt with rostam (her lover) but then suddenly a war occured so rostam had to go out to fight to defend the country. he promised to be back with her but he was killed in the war, which saddens her so much she turned into a witch of fire, burning everything down including herself. then the tsaritsa took her in and made her an ice delusion, so she wouldn’t burn herself into ashes and never feel the heartbreaking passion of her love for rostam again.
Actually yeah she does
She originates from Mondstadt and studied in Sumeru Academia, then fell in love with some guy named Rostam. During the Archon War, she saw Rostam get killed by monsters and she was so enraged and heartbroken she turned into flames and burned everything in her path, including herself, which is where she got her Crimson Witch of Flames. The Tsaritsa saw her potential and made her one of her Harbingers, and gave her a Cryo Delusion to retain the fire inside her and so that she wouldn't ever feel the pain and heartbreak of losing Rostam again.

The bird call/singing (sad and terrifying) you hear at nighttime on top of Liyue mountains is xiao's bird form calling out for his buddies. If you want to listen, you can google. That's utterly heartbreaking.

I feel like what Mihoyo needs to do is like, make the dendro archon or some sort of ancient dendro character have a backstory where they were trapped in thorns for a few hundred years or sumn

It actually does, but I believe the Dendro archon was the youngest of them all and the most recent to become an actual arcón (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this was it)
I mean..it's just thorns, idk about you, but to me, if I was a *literal god*, thorns would be the least of my worries

Raiden Ei will be the saddest backstory she lost 3 friends and Raiden Makoto her sister. She ruled Inazuma alone. She keep trying to make her dream eternity comes true by her self. She do many things for Inazuma alone. Her past is really hard.
The family who loved you and supported you is your true family. I speak with *experience*
Kaeya and diluc make me so sad. It's always the siblings that get me the most

In my opinion Venti has one of the saddest backstorys cause hey his friend died no big deal almost everyone in genshin impact lost someone but the fact that he took the form of his friend, helps someone that went through the same thing(this is part of the venti quest) and yet he still smiles unlike most of the characters in game that lost someone

But they don't know it's just a curse at the end 1 year or 1000 year u finally reach the point that anything not enjoyable u saw everyone u love or hate die so many time, ppl kill eachother, city's destroyed. in Xiao's backstory way back then while he was enslaved by the god he used to have wings but they pulled his wings off for some reason? blood came out and also the reason for his short height due to being starved almost to death which is also the reason for his line saying "Once the snow is thick enough we can eat it" there's a saying that people in poverty eat snow due to starvation so when snow comes down from ceiling he has to eat it since its his only food source and due to being prisoned underground he developed a fear of being in the dark
But Xiao was rlly sad I'm glad ppl began to know Chinese ppl more. Back in the days there was rlly know food so they would eat snow. Genghis Khan did that to if I'm. Not is taken when he was younger
So basically, zhongli guided xiao murderous instinct by giving him a mission to quell the lingering hatred of the fallen after the archon war and venti's flute keeps his sanity intact.
