- Well things don't always go as planned and today I had to fix the steps going to our RV. The sad part is I broke our RV Steps twice but take a look at options for upgrading our RV steps and the accessories that can help.

We have all been there. Just glad you weren't hurt.
Glad I’m not the only one.
Great video! Thanks for helping us learn through the experiences of others instead of repeating them. I’m glad you are OK.
One more option for ground-contact steps not mentioned in your video is the Lippert Solid Stance RV Step Stabilizer.
This made a big difference for us. Our RV travel trailer steps are a manual fold up. Admittedly our steps are only a three-step, so I'm not sure how much of a difference the stabilizer would make on a taller RV with more steps. Also the stabilizer mostly works on the last step. But that step was the one that bounced the most since it had the most leverage on the trailer. My wife was very uncomfortable with the bouncy step but now feels much more at ease. The stabilizer does not interfere with the manual folding at all.
We like our manual fold up steps and have never considered upgrading to a solid step. It's nice to not be folding up a step into the RV with rain and mud. We also don't have the issue you mentioned about being unable to open up the steps close to nearby obstacles.
Safe travels and God bless!
We took our adult son camping last season with our Imagine 22MLE, he had a similar “escalator” occurrence. We upgraded our steps that next week also. Same weekend he also broke the handle on the fridge. Thankfully we too like to fix things and upgrade as we can. Keep the videos coming!
Wow he’s racking up the repair list😉. Thank you!
Unfortunately, even when purchasing what should be a quality unit, travel trailers are rather “not well made” in my opinion. Fortunately they are relatively straight forward to repair and upgrade.
Looks better than the original version. Glad you were not injured during the fall! Thanks for the great repair job.
Thanks!
I Love the reenactment!🤣
Thanks!
Me too!! 😅
Etrailer has always been exceedingly helpful when trying to solve a problem. I love your mindset of fixing rather than replacing. Too many people are way over their heads in debt, because of the replacement mindset. I love your content!
Thanks!
Unfortunately Etrailer is very overpriced
Great video! Etrailer is great! Cheers
Pride comes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
Wow! That fall would have sent me to the ER. Minor hiccup for you and steps are now better than new.😉
Sorry you fell and hope you’re OK but that slow motion video was hilarious!
Glad you liked it. I thought why not have a little fun with it.
I have the truck camper of the Torklift steps. I love them. They are rock solid since they rest on the ground. Somewhere buried in my channel is a video of them when I mounted them to my truck camper porch.
Nice special effects on the fall. Glad you're okay. I've fallen on mine twice, I replaced mine with the solid steps. I can't afford to fall anymore I just had both my knees replaced 👍🇺🇲
We have the torklift glow steps on our Grand Design 320MKS. Absolutely love them. Absolutely love them.
That’s what I hear from so many people.
That's one of the reasons I'm glad that our Grand Design 278BH has folding steps rather than solid. We do have wrap-around step covers and really like them.
👍🏼
On the step repair to make it stronger, just rivet a long piece of aluminum angle the whole length for all bolts and replace washers on hex end with larger flat washer or double up them.
Thought it worth mentioning.
...great vid too.
Definitely keep us updated if you get those other steps and how you like them. I have steps similar to yours and I love how sturdy they are but I hate them otherwise.
Enjoy the video we all make mistakes you have a great day hope to see you on campground one day
I hope so too! Thanks
Great video! I’d add that aluminum bar to the entire length of that square tube… just removing a few more screws and it would have provided much more strength… or even using a c-channel… 🥳
I got the best of both worlds: traditional folding steps (Aluminum ) witht he lipart step braces installed underneath. that way I canhave the stability of these monsterous steps that only can be deployed on perffectly level ground, but with the added benefit of my steps being able to be deployed all the time in any situation.
Great combo
I've ordered from E Trailer. I had some questions and actually got to speak to a person. Good company
Torklift are great 7” risers are more residential. They give you so much traction that I have almost fallen.
I think the riveted on plate is a better repair than welding, especially since most people out there are not prepared to weld aluminum that thin. The riveted option should be within almost everyone's skill level.
I thought about Glowsteps but I ended up buying the RV Co Port a step. I figured i would take them with me if i ever upgraded My rig. This past year i ended up buying their 3x4 decking as well. Really great stairs.
Nice editing work. I enjoy your videos, finding them informative and entertaining, even when it doesn’t apply to my equipment or circumstance.
Thanks! I thought why not have a little fun with it.
Super appreciate your willingness to show all your mistakes. Even the best of us make them, ya know those rookie mistakes, even though we're not all rookies . And you my friend, are NO rookie!!! Always learn something from your channel!!!
Nice repair work (welding issue aside)
BTW, we like the Torklift steps on our Lance.
Great fix got the aluminum repair.
Lol... we broke ours too within like a month when we hit the road. Seems like a right of passage of RV living. Allways love your content.
Thanks! Hope you guys are doing well!
What? Wait u did? U never told us! Sneaky 😂🍻
So happy that you did not hurt yourself!!👍thanks for the videos!
👍🏼
We have the torklift glow step On our Reflection 337Rls love them and the slide handle matches up great
As always, entertaining and informative. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks.
Highly recommend tork lift steps. First upgrade I did on my RV. Never regretted it at all. We love them
Our grand design solitude has tork lift steps are nice to have.
I find if you keep it simple, less moving parts, there tends to be fewer problems.
True.
On my Solid Steps I was having the same issue on the front of the step. Ended up buying All thread and replaced under the front of the step instead of just a bolt.
Good idea.
Im impressed. You are very creative. I like how everything worked out in the end. Stairs are in working order. Nice.
Thanks so much! Thought I would have a little fun with it.
So glad you were not seriously hurt and that was a great job on the double repair! .Hope we run into you somewhere, someday.
👍🏼
Jared - You "actually" have a welder on board?? Woosh! - I don't even have one at home - lol - Cheers!
Appreciate your honesty. Can happen to anyone.
Thanks!
Nice work, but remember, prep your welds, you would have seen it was aluminum. Thanks for not trash canning this, it was really enjoyable.
Yes so true. I knew better and thought I would cut a corner. Lesson learned.
We bought steps and a deck about 4 years ago from RV-CO Step and Deck out of Texas. We have never regretted that, as we are getting older. Easy to put up and down. They have all different sizes of steps and decks with handrails Very strong.
They look stout.
Like yourself, I prefer to do all my own maintenance & fixes. I am somewhat mechanical , but there are good resources like yourself on CZcams to help as well. Taking it to an RV place is just too much down time & usually it is not done to my standard. Another thing that is not good for your steps is attempt to move the tt over a foot or two with them down to save a few minutes. I found a big rock! Even though they were steel, physics took over and they gave before the rock. I quickly learned how to bend, pry & hammer & straighten them out. So trying to save a couple of minutes cost me a couple of hours.
Ouch. Glad you were able to get them straightened out!
You showed the Torklift steps, I have had them on my travel trailer for about 6 years. I think they are great and very stable.
Awesome thanks!
I'm getting ready to sell or trade-in my bumper pull toy hauler. I upgraded the steps about 4 years ago to the Torklift Glow Steps. I'm really going to miss those steps. Enough so that the steps on the new trailer may be the first upgrade after PV and a Victron system.
keep up the fun
Thanks!
The Torklift steps are a great upgrade over the ones you have or similar. I've been running them on my trailer for 3 years and I haven't had a single issue with them.
Good to hear. I often hear good things about them.
Definitely recommend the TorkLift. I installed them on our Lance. A bit pricy but worth the upgrade.
Good to hear!
Do it right the first time should be, if it's good enough to do once, it's good enough to do twice.
Looks good for now. Hopefully the rivets will hold up for a while.
Thanks, I hope so too.
great video. However, your issue is different than mine. My steps are fold up steel on my 2004 Montana Fifth Wheel and the steel rivet broke and of course the step is no longer usable. Do you or any of your subscribers know how to get a bolt/bushing/nut, replacement kit for this issue?
Love your videos and PTL you're fine. I love your humble great attitude when you through yourself under the RV "BUS"
Thanks to all!
Dennis
Hey man. You gotta tell me about your welder. I want to keep one with me. Since we sold our house, shop, and most all of my tools..... now I'm lost.....lol. thanks
Haha!! I’ve done that too brother the slip and falling on my rear. We have the MORryde steps that hide away too and it’s a love hate relationship. I love how sturdy they are but for travel days when you want to stop and eat lunch or use restroom on the side of a road is not as ideal. I’ll be watching to see what your ‘next step’ is in this topic. You like what I just did right there?
Haha. Good one😉
ouch! Did the same thing myself but landed on my butt cheek...2 years later and the lump from that fall has finally gone. Yeah, hurts a lot but I didn't break the step (just my butt cheek) - we don't have the folding up steps so maybe more solid... Good video.
Glad I’m not the only one.
What if you were to remove the foot at the end of the stairs and install small wheels? Would that resolve the problem of adjusting the trailer height while the stairs were down?
Don & Honey
I came for the RV tips, but I stayed for the special effects!
Thanks. I spent the whole budget on them. 😉
Good job, well I had the accordion style steps, did not like them after I got them. Too hard for the wife to do. We are a lot older than you guys, I like them at first, BUT. You know how things work, I like them today but not tomorrow.
I hear you. Thank you!
I got Dr Scholl's slip resistant shoes. Never slliped on any surface dry or wet.....
Maybe I should get a pair!
The aftermarket "upgrades" never end...
So true. Fun to do but hard on the budget.
I don't know what it is about those steps, but they are like nails on a chalk board to me. I'm currently in the market for my next rv and if it has these, they'll be the first thing I replace back to the roll out ones. If I pull over while on the road, I only have to roll it out once where I can hop in and out without needing all three steps.
I’ve heard that before. Thankfully etrailer has the other styles to be able to swap out.
Let me know if you ever come across the fabled "Easy 5 min Job".
Oh man, i got 20 yrs more on u easily, n so i've gone up n down more steps, u think experience comes caution n wisdom!
Last nov not paying attention in the condo, going down those pie shaped steps on a turn i missed placed my foot to close to the edge of a tiny part of the step 🙄 (carpet thank god but socks on made it too slick) I slip n slam down on my elbows, n i ripped both arm rotor cuffs 🙄. (Slowly healing still, i'll survive). Now here's the part that makes me laugh, after slipping, my legs are straight out like I'm lying on the stairs like a sled n I immediately start sliding my arm swings up and grabs the hand rail to stop me from sliding, but I'm still in stupid mode n don't think to just fold my knees! 😂🤣. The visual makes me laugh every time. Dam those pie shaped steps, good thing it wasn't raining inside too 😂. 🍻
So I'm a handyman. Don't be embarrassed over the welding. I do the same thing dimple project turns into another issue. I smile and say got to love it. And move on.
Thanks, glad I’m not the only one.
👍👍🏝
I would never do anything like that......😜
Hahaha.
👍🇺🇲
You carry a welder and my wife won't carry a kayak. And so it goes.
Haha. No it is at our home base but we did buy it on the road when I had to fix a brace on our last RV after a he Alaskan highway.
E-trailer is great, and I don't like the design of those steps.
I’m glad you weren’t seriously hurt on those steps. It could’ve been worse 😮. That’s why I don’t like those flip up steps from Morryde. Their Step Above steps are far superior. Lippert’s Solid Steps are good too.
👍🏼
Went with the Torklift years ago and will never go back to the OEM style seats. The ability to set the Torklift as a ladder in tight situations have given us access in truck parking at rest areas. Plus the glow tapes are a big help at night when we don't want to turn on outside lighting.
Good to hear. They seam like a great product.
