Gautam Gambhir Opens Up On Ravi Shastri, Anil Kumble & BCCI

  • In an exclusive interview with CNN News18's Vimal Kumar, Gautam Gambhir not only took a jab against Ravi Shastri, but also showed no qualms in saying that Indian skipper Virat Kohli shouldn't alone be given the credit of the team's success. Referring to the trend of giving the credit to the captain as 'dangerous', Gambhir said, "Not just MS Dhoni, but I say this for Virat Kohli too, we shouldn’t give the entire credit to Kohli. It started with Sourav, then MS and now Virat. I think this is a dangerous trend because in such cases you put someone at a pedestal which makes other feel their contribution is insignificant." Watch the entire interview to understand why he calls Anil’s Kumble's exit as BCCI’s loss and the reason for him to think Ravi Shastri hasn’t won anything, ever.

@@Therealtalkpodcast1115 we are not saying MSD is not great, but the point here is too much hype n importance to MSD & no much credit to other players who contributed a lot like Yuvi, Ghambir. It's something wrong with how as a society we idolize some people n ignore others though there is not much difference in their contributions.
As far as strike rate in that match is concern, Sehwag 0, Sachin 18 out , then Gambhir stood like rock and prevented wicket fall otherwise we would have all out like 2003 world cup final, hence its justified to take 122 balls to score 97 at that point of time. In fact Gambhir foundation helped to MSD to finish match. You can see strike rate of Gambhir in ODI is 85 despite being opener, MSD 87, so it's proving that Gambhir took more balls only to stop wickets fall.
Both innings are important, that's y we could win world Cup.

The coach selection panel comprised of the likes of Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar, and non of them wanted Ravi Sashtri as a coach of the Indian Cricket team. They wanted Kumble to continue. But it was due to external pressure from Virat Kohli that Ravi Sashtri was finally selected as a coach. Even the great Sunil Gavaskar was unhappy when Sashtri was appointed as a coach and was famously quoted as saying "Sashtri is a linent coach". I appreciate Gautam Gambhir, he is very straightforward and honest in opinion. It was arrogance of Kohli to humiliate Kumble as described by Gambhir one of the greatest match winners of India. BCCI danced to the tune of Kohli that is another shame. India lost World Cup 2019 purely due to Kohli's arrogance plus lack of captaincy skills and Shastri's inefficiency as a coach and unbridled team .

Shekar shetty.... Think you maybe misled or misread. Nothing about regionalism, instead at one point, Indian cricket team had nearly 6 players from Karnataka in playing 11! Rayudu is mediocre at best and was lobbied by Tendulkar. Remember Srinath, Joshi, Prasad, Dravid, Kumble playing together? Can't recall the 6th guy though..... But the pic was on front of sports today!

If Sachin would be as honest as of Gautam then cricket would have been extinct in India for so very long as every word from him matters much more than any of the person alive in India( Bharat Ratna)
But in the case of Gautam (though I love him) things are different.

Agreed. Didnt have the spine to speak up when he was in the team which was understandable. But to behave the same way even after retiring is frankly dissapointing. Which is GG and Ganguly still continue to be favourites even after retirement.

It's not at all about spine.
In India, cricket is like religion, IPL is treated as a festival.
If Sachin will speak about wrong things going inside cricket then it will hurt every Indian's sentiment and people will start hating cricket and you know Indian economy is also dependable on cricket(IPL) so there will be a downfall in country's economy.
Moreover it can lead to a situation of panic as everyone will be in front of the Bcci office or players house throwing acid balls and doing protest.
I know the truth should come out but we should forget those things as past.
With time things are getting more transparent, fixings going down and eventually wrong things will decrease.
How much you try, you can't remove the devil from society.
