    I live in wisconsin and its wonderful here. Ive been to many other states and none of them were as nice as wisconsin. We have cheap homes in most places, good schools, and nice scenery, as well as many other things.
    It doesnt smell bad unless you are standing right next to a farm. The ENTIRE state doesnt smell like farms, please. We are more urban than you think.
    And we have weather just like every other state for 8 months out of the year. It gets really hot here in the summer too. Like yes winter is an actual season. Just because the south doesnt have it, doesnt mean it doesnt exist.
    Ive travelled a lot throughout the state and ive never found a lake thats so toxic you cant swim in it.
    Also, Scott Walker kept our college tuition stable and made it stop rising so its lower than the national average.
    Furthermore, the unemployment rate is like 2.5% which is 2% lower than the national average and many of the states around us.
    Please check your facts before making the whole State look bad. Most of the things you are talking about only happen in less than 5% of the state.

    My father is a born and raised Wisconsin native, from Milwaukee. Part of me has an attachment to Milwaukee because of my family connection to Milwaukee. At the same time, it pains me to admit that Milwaukee has alot of problems. High murder rate, high unemployment rate, a history of racial tensions (which include riots in 1967 and 2016), gangs,etc. When many people think of Wisconsin, Milwaukee is the last place they think of. Milwaukee has alot of cool stuff. Beer gardens, Milwaukee Brewers baseball team, alot of awesome architecture. There is also alot of bad going on too. Part of me has thought of living in Milwaukee (I'm currently living in the suburbs of Atlanta). Part of me wonders otherwise.

    • @MilwaukeeWoman

      TheGeoScholar We can use good people in Milwaukee always. Milwaukee has segregation issues, especially with its suburbs, but it is still an iconic city, somewhere with a real sense of place, and not like any anonymous suburb. If you get a job here (they exist, just not as plentiful as they should be) I think your biggest hurdle will be the ice in the winter. Snow can be bad, but the icy days bother me more.

      TheGeoScholar When I visited Milwaukee it was a relatively safe as well as a clean beautiful city and the people were super friendly and helpful. It just sickens me how a great city like that could just suddenly slip and fall into hard times and yet the politicians did nothing about it. A former mayor raved about getting rid of a waterfront interstate and the triumphs of the new urbanism. Big fucking deal. How about paying more attention to the poorer struggling neighborhoods rather than just focusing on downtown and the lakefront. Milwaukee needs to focus on its neighborhoods and get rid of the violent gangs causing problems.

    • @TheGeoScholar

      J O Milwaukee has a unique charm to it. The cream city bricks, the lake, the river, the old world charm. One reason why the negative aspects surprised me so much when I read about it. For what it's worth, I've applied to several jobs in Milwaukee.

      @TheGeoScholar Před 6 lety +1

      Robert Preskop It depends on where you go and where you come from. My father's old neighborhood is not in good shape(the north side). I do know about the neglect going on in many of the poorer areas. A riot took place in 2016. Alot of issues going in a city that otherwise has alot of cool stuff.

      Timms hill is officially the highest point in Wisconsin, supposedly, but it's not really true. The highest spot is just east of Presque Isle, in the northeast corner of the state, along the border with YooperLand. It's just over 2,000 ft, about 300 ft higher than Timms hill, but not nearly as dramatic, since most of Vilas and Oneida counties are over 1900'
      Since the highest spot is 2,000' & the lowest is the Lake Michigan shoreline at 598', calling Wisconsin flat is kind of misleading.

    Ok, so the 'no job' thing isn't really correct. It's more like no workers for the umpteen thousands of jobs we have available. Our factories and businesses are CRYING for help (at least in Dodge County where I live). :). Yes, winters are brutal, but nothin's better than cooking out in a blizzard, and that brandy old fashioned will keep you toasty. We're not really flat when you get up into the Baraboo Bluff, LaCrosse or Kettle Moraine area. I've lived in Wisconsin for 51 years - born and raised. No better place on the planet. And yes, we wear cheese on our head, drink a lot of beer, love our Packers and eat a ton of brats, but we're very friendly and could teach anyone a think or two about polka! ") Oh and yes, Scott 'Scooter' Walker is shameful to say the least.

Used to be every community grew hard working families. Should be a lot of pissed off parents, but I dont hear em do you? Gone, all gone.Liberals and the handy dandy internet ruined what once was. Well, that's the easiest answer anyway. Honestly, it is politics in general. Both sides the same. Just ask scooter, hahaha. They bought into a delusion and we suffer because of this. Shameful hussies. Hard work and integrity has turned into lies, deception, laziness.

    I grew up in Wisconsin, grew up, moved away, moved back, and moved away again. Reasons, in Northern Wisconsin it is really, really cold. We waited until Memorial Day to plant our garden but it still froze dead. It is not just about gardens. Housing prices might be low but heating costs are sky high. And if the power goes out or your furnace quits you either go to a hotel or die. Extra blankets don't help when it is -30 degrees Taxes, property taxes are four times what I paid in Tennessee. That's Tennessee that does not have a State income tax but Wisconsin's income tax is one of the highest in the Nation.

I love Arizona.

  • @bren134
    @bren134 Před 5 lety +4

    I have lived in Wisconsin for 40 years, and the list is off base on most items. #10- bugs. Bugs are only a problem in June and July, and only mosquitoes. Poisonous insects, spiders, and snakes can't even live here because it's so cold in the winter. I think most states have insect problems more than 2 months a year. #9-flatness. There are lots of hills and Kettle Moraine is an amazing location for studying the glacier movement. There are lots of ski resorts in central and northern Wisconsin. It's hard to find really flat land like there is in Iowa. #8 Smell - I lived in the country and the city, different towns, and it rarely stinks like cows and only when passing a freshly done field. Cheese factories smell for about 1/4 mile radius. #7 weather - you are right on with this one. The snow is enough to make me want to move, particularly the last two years. #6 The water is fine in most locations. #5 - crime in Milwaukee is pretty bad, but that is one of the only unsafe areas in the entire state. People stay away from Milwaukee unless they have to go there, or if they have always lived there. #4- jobs- I think it is about the same unemployment rate as other states in the area #3- Scott Walker is no longer Governor. #2-Obesity - Pretty true, but I think it's probably about the same as other places in the us #1 - health care cost - depends on where you work, and what insurance they choose. Like you said, there is very little wrong about the state, so I bet it was hard to make this list. The weather is pretty much the only thing that really belongs on this list. But then it couldn't be a top ten list I guess.

    Absolutely loved this video. 8 years ago I was living in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY. The rent was cheap, $525 a month for an acre of land with a house, a carport, a pond and surrounded by a forest. Life was good but, no jobs. I took a crap job as a forklift operator at a bottled water factory for $9 an hour, nothing was happening in telecommunications. For 20 years I watched the manufacturing industry vanish. So one day I decided to not go to work. I packed up the car and gave everything else away.
    Wisconsin was not what I had in mind but, my oldest son lived there. In 3 weeks I had a job starting at $16 an hour. My car insurance was half of what I used to pay in NY. NY sales tax was 9.25%, Wisconsin, 5.25%. A couple years later I was up to my eyeballs in telecommunications and passed the $25 an hour mark. I do save a lot on break jobs because Wisconsin is so flat. And wow, who was the genius that invented deep fried cheese curds? Currently, Wisconsin has an employee shortage and has an unemployment rate of 2.8%. Winters in Wisconsin however, suck more than NY because they have half the snow and it's usually 10 degrees colder than NY...
    Well, my Wisconsin girlfriend is on me about watching a movie and I'm slacking with my beer...gotta go.

    As a third generation Wisconsinite, I can validate a lot of the points which you made in this video. Another BIG one you missed is the out of control Dept of Justice and Dept of Corrections. These people capitalize on "being tough on crime" but just wind up breaking up families by locking people up for lengthy sentences for relatively minor crimes involving drugs, sex and alcohol. Compare the number of incarcerations with our neighboring states and you'll see my point. The legislature and governor make minimum sentences which make it harder to rehabilitate and reintegrate citizens. "Come on vacation, leave on probation" could be the next state motto.
