    It was a blast from the past to see the VIDEO CALIBRATION message come up a couple of times during this video. I'd forgotten how my JVC VCR used to do that whenever it showed cassettes where the tapes had started to stretch and distort the signal. Good times.

Saying he didn't like what Johnny did to Joan Rivers because she didn't ask for permission to get her TV show is exactly what Howard did to Stuttering John when he took the Leno job without asking Howard about it first. Stern threw a bitch fit and basically has never talked to Stuttering John since.

      The man made mental illness brought upon by neglect and an overbearing mother work very well for him. He is a huge narcisist. BUT....i love howard too, and would watch/listen to anything he does. He's genuinely funny, and really care about doing his damn job wich is being entertaining. One of the few famous people that really deserve the fame. Natural talent and a ton of work, like a fuck ton of work that guy did. Respect.

    I don't think I've ever seen a more hilarious reaction to something a guest said when Howard talked about what the Basic Instinct scene made him do. It was like Dave ate something bad.

      Letterman was brilliant in setting up his guests. He provided the perfect foil for nearly every guest. He was rarely off. No late-night host did this as well.

      Talked to one of Larry's staff people who was screening calls and they asked me what's my question... I told them I wanna talk about the first Gulf War that was just starting back then, and they said to me " We know who you are, you're with Howard Stern and hung up on me".. I thought that was pretty funny:-) LM

      I laughed so hard when he used to make fun of Ellen. I specifically remember him being so disgusted by how lame it was/is when she would dance. He was like "what IS that? Like she invented DANCING!?" Because that was like her " thing" when her show started. And he had a good point, like what a dumb waste of 2min watching her dance every episode. Just dancing like an idiot, making dumb faces like the audience are a bunch of autistic 3 year old chimpanzees.

    I grew up in Ny in the 70', 8o's....on and on. He was very imposing at 6'6...and would rip anybody to shreds verbally at a moments notice As tme marches on Howard has evolved into one of the great interviewrs of all time. Him and Jimmy's bromance and great friendship is a pleasure to witness in these times.

    Something people may not know about this broadcast. Sharon Stone was on after Howard. Now at this point in Howard's career it had been agreed upon that when he did appear on Letterman, he would be the first guest or he wouldn't do the show. There's no way Dave had any problem whatsoever with that. Afterwards, I don't recall if on the air or in some magazine, Sharon Stone actually complained that she was supposed to be on first, which was a total lie. Apparently she didn't like some of the things Howard had said about her. That started sort of a feud between the two. At least two times when Stuttering John attempted to ask Sharon Stone questions, her bodyguards roughed him up. And man did Howard go off on her on the air.
