Fresh Flower Arrangement & Baking a Strawberry Pie! 🍓💐🥰 // Garden Answer

- Strawberry Pie
Crust:
2 1/2 c. Flour
2(+) t. Sugar
1 t. Salt
1 c. Butter (I use salted)
1/2 c. Ice water
Filling:
6 c. Frozen strawberries
1 c. Sugar
1 1/2 t. Lemon juice
1/2 c. Cornstarch
Crust: (Do this at least 2 hours prior to pie assemble so it has time to chill). Mix flour, sugar and salt together. Add cubed butter. Cut the butter into dry ingredients (with party cutter, two forks, or food processor) until the mixture resembles pea-sized bits. Add 1/2 c. Ice water, 1-2 T. At a time, stirring after each addition, until dough forms large clumps. Pour mixture out onto a slightly floured counter/board and form together into a ball. Cut in half. Wrap each half in Saran Wrap, press down slightly to form a rough, thick disc, then chill for 2+ hours. Roll out on lightly floured surface to form crust.
Filling: Preheat oven to 350 degrees f. Mix strawberries and lemon juice in a medium saucepan. In separate bowl, mix together sugar and cornstarch. Pour over strawberries. Cook mixture on medium-low heat for about 15 min. Until the strawberries look soft and the mixture is fully incorporated. Turn heat up, let boil for 5 minutes- stirring constantly. Remove from heat after 5 minutes. Let cool slightly before pouring into pie shells.
Pour filling into bottom crust. Top using a whole crust or lattice (or whatever design you’d like).
Bake for 35-40 min or until top crust is golden brown. Rotate as needed so it cooks evenly.
Serve warm with ice cream! So yummy!

Gorgeous bouquet and delicious pie! Next time you make pie crust do half shortening and add a tsp. White vinegar to your water!! You won’t regret it! So flaky and delicious!! I owned a home bakery for 16 years and won pie contest!
I’ll be saving this advice. My mother made the flakiest, most delicious pie crusts. I never could master it.
Yes, the very best pie crust recipe. Done it that way for all my 41 yrs of marriage. Always told I have the most flakiest pie crust.
Or vodka instead of vinegar works great too! But absolutely half Crisco is the secret. Also, an egg wash would give a bit more color and shine, but I actually prefer a pale crust like Laura’s for fruit pie! 🍓 🥧

I can relate. Our sweet neighbors are selling and moving closer to their family. Gives me some anxiety as to who will be our new neighbors. This video did give a lot comfort and joy. Pray we both eventually have wonderful new neighbors.

My neighbor passed last year at 101. Her daughter is selling the house, and has shown such compassion for finding great neighbors for us. The new neighbors, although we haven't met them yet, are a young family with a 2-year old and a newborn. The real estate agent reported back that they are looking forward to meeting us and seeing our garden!! They will have a beautiful yard, but there is some work to be done as my neighbor's daughter couldn't keep it up during her mom's illness. It already has a gated garden area just waiting to be loved. While change is hard, it will be nice to see a young family in the neighborhood again.

@@telsclark that happened to us in our former home and neighborhood. We had the best high school football coach and his wife next door. They sold to downsize and criminals moved in next door and wrecked that pretty home. Police were always there. It was a disaster. Praying your neighborhood improves somehow. And praying it doesn't happen again to us here. My hubby doesn't want to move again.

Great video! Tip to share: I’m sure folks have mentioned it previously, you can use egg wash to get your pie crust a golden brown on top. And I sprinkle my pies with a teaspoon of sugar too. Either way, your pie looked beautiful and yummy too. 😊👍

Your strawberry pie brought so many memories of my childhood, I did tear up just a little. My grandmother always had a large garden and we picked strawberries with her and my grandpa several times a week. I confess we ate more than made it into the basket sometimes! My grandma made the best strawberry cream pie! She never used recipes much, so when I asked her for the recipe when I was older, she gave me 3 different ones. I always chuckle at that memory. Thank you for this episode!

Just wanted to give you a heads up, you mentioned you can’t wait to get a new oven my Bosh oven blew up so I did some research and bought a French door GE Cafe brand and I absolutely love it👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻I swear a woman designed it😂. All the oven racks have a safety feature that stops them from falling out when you pull them out all the way, it has a dough proofed, a steam cleaner if you prefer steam cleaning your oven and of course the standard oven setting for cleaning, it’s got a meat thermometer and it’s Wi-Fi ready, yea that too😂😂😂I don’t use that feature but the best part for me is the fact that it has the French doors so when you reach into the oven, chances of burning yourself are pretty slim. Love love love mine👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻oh and that strawberry pie I’m gonna have to make that baby🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️

The dahlias, sunflowers and zinnias are mostly warm colors of course. I also enjoyed seeing those touches of blues.

Good morning. Mom was a great baker and when she made pies she would take any left over crust, roll it out and sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over it. She then cut it into little stripes and bake them. My two sisters and I got to eat those for treats. (Almost as good as the pie!)
We called them pie cookies - and I loved them!

Oh my gosh, the first thing I saw when you pulled up to the garden was your 1 amazing artichoke plant. Maybe it will be as productive as they were last year. Gorgeous flowers and I love all of your family time moments.
A very calming and peaceful video, just getting stuff done (mostly) indoors to combat the heat! When you made the pie, Laura, great memories came back when I was a child and my Mom used to make pies. My brother and sister and I used to look forward to the "pinwheels" she would make with the leftover crust. She would sprinkle the crust with cinnamon and sugar and roll it up and cut them into small pieces, placing them on a baking sheet. They were so wonderful coming out of the oven with a glass of milk!! I can smell them now. Thanks for the memories, as that was a long time ago and I'd hadn't remembered pinwheels in such a long time!!
My mom, who is 90 and doing very well, also made cinnamon sugar pinwheels (sometimes changed it up with jam pinwheels) from the pie crust leftovers. Haven’t thought of that in years. I’m going to be making a lemon pie as soon as our weather cools a bit. No AC in this house!
