  • A Utah nurse saved a softball player's life after performing CPR during the game. Registered nurse Danya Topham was in the stands when 57-year-old Darren Ewell collapsed on the ball field. She immediately began chest compressions on him right on the field. After more help arrived, paramedics used a defibrillator to shock the man's heart. Thankfully, it worked. He had suffered a massive heart attack on the field that required four heart stents. Now, Ewell calls Topham his guardian angel.

As a medical doctor who trained for three years in internal medicine and did more CPRs than I can remember, I can confirm that this is true. You actually know when you've broken a rib because there's a "give" when it happens.

It’s common, even if you feel like you’ve broken their ribs, DON’T STOP the compressions or else you may have forfeited their life. Saving their life is more important than being scared of hurting them.

CPR is a very useful tool. It's very physically demanding and emotionally draining and taxing.. I am alive because I went in for what was described as a routine surgery at my local hospital. It was a cardiac ablation. My Dr has done thousands of these. During my procedure I went into cardiac arrest. I'm a rare case. My Dr has never heard of this happening during a procedure. I am extremely blessed to be here typing this. This happened only on September 8 2022. Today. It is September 23. Bless this nurse for being in the right place at the right time.
