Mechanism of Monsoon.......
Monsoon is a tropical phenomenon. Indian subcontinent, lying northwards of the equator up to the Himalayas and Hindukush, lies primarily in the tropical zone of the Northern Hemisphere. It involves winds blowing from the south-west direction (known as South-West Monsoon) from the Indian Ocean onto the Indian landmass during the months of June through September. These are generally rain-bearing winds, blowing from sea to land, and bring rains to most parts of the subcontinent. They split into two branches, the Arabian Sea Branch and the Bay of Bengal Branch near the southern-most end of the Indian Peninsula. They are eagerly awaited in most parts of India for their agricultural and economic importance.
Subsequently later in the year, around October, these winds reverse direction and start blowing from north-east direction. Given their land to sea flow, from subcontinent onto the Indian Ocean, they have less moisture and bring rain to only limited parts of India like Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. This is known as the North-East Monsoon. However, this rain is responsible for the rice bowls of South India. This mechanism completes the annual Monsoon cycle of the Indian subcontinent.

महोदया ..... आप भली भाँति जानती है की भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत ध्वनि-प्रधान होता है, शब्द-प्रधान नहीं। इसमें महत्व ध्वनि का होता है l याने उसके चढ़ाव-उतार का, शब्द और अर्थ का नहीं। इस " सूर मल्हार " में भी ऐसा ही कुछ है l पंडित भीमसेन जी को किराने घराने की तालीम मिली है l यह घराना तानप्रधान कहलाता है l इसीलिए इस " सूर मल्हार " के कुछ कुछ शब्दोको हम समझ नहीं पाते l कम से कम मैं तो समझ नही पा रहा हू l

All, dr.bhimsen joshi, is always a musical genius'thronging the hearts of everyone ,a non musician like myself' but a constant listener of all hindustani singers, my pranams to panditji & also the patrons in all of you.
"Pure Bliss". Listening to this raga with closed eyes, you will really get the monsoon feeling around you. What a great voice. Thank God for blessing me to watch Panditji's LIVE performances thrice and also for giving me an opportunity to have a short chat with him in English once.

Rendition of this Raga Sur Malhar by Pt Bhim sen Joshi is like thundering of clouds during monsoon season.

Very beatiful! Pt Ji, you are ever remembered for your contribution to the classical music. My sincere thanks to all those who are making such classical gems available to others so easily. I have less knowledge of ragaas, but this number simply blew my mind. Very blissfull. I hope to see many Pt Ji's come from time to time to keep this "swar dhaar" alive.

Bhimsenji's this rendering transcends me to many moods of monsoon season. The excellent visuals of monsoon are like sugar in milk ! They have enhanced the experience. The rendering reminds me of perfection of Verul shilp carved in black, hard rock of Sahyadri, ite eternal beauty ! Many of his abhangs also give test of brahmanand through naadbrahma.. They completely occupy the mind- tears of joy come many times. My 4 year and 10 year old grandchildren also heard this full 20 minutes- which is not common for their age. Downloaded this many months ago and listening this gem many times. Of his many such gems, it is difficult to choose any one as best- but for me, I like this little more than others. No words to thank, but still many Thanks for making this available.

I have been listening to this Raag since my teenage! This has accompanied me everywhere. Does any one here have the original video record of this Raag Sur Malhaar? I am trying to find it on the internet since the time I first listened to it. Please share if anyone has it, would go a great favour to me as to many others who love to listen to 'The SwarBhaskar'.
Just a minor suggestion, the sound of the thunder in the beginning, kind of disturbs the entire feel of that particular space at the particular time.
For the rest, there cannot be any questions at all!!

U may know them best. I cant clerify Panditji, but I like them most, I ever listen her Bjanan in day and night, thesegive me a new sprit. But I not having more collection of Panditji. After that I like Pd. Jasraaj ji and their Haweli Sangeet. My grand father also was a good Musician. They belongs to Bhaatkhandehi Gharna. My bad luck I can't listen them. Am fond of claasic music either frpm old movies or by renowd Gharana's

Attended His Morning Raga at Nehru Park, Chanakya Puri in New Delhi. He announced that it would rain, if he sing a Song in this Raaga. It rained, I and my family are witnesses. We got wet. Program went on. No audience left the floor. Year : around May,
